If you want a keyboard made with metal, first check what is actually metal: a full aluminum body, a thin aluminum frame, and a metal top plate are different constructions. Among the documented options here, the Keychron Q1 V2 is a wired 75% board with a full CNC-machined aluminum body; the Q1 HE 8K is a wired magnetic-switch alternative; and the Q11 offers a split layout. For low-profile wireless use, Logitech’s MX Mechanical is a comparison option, but its cited product page does not establish a full metal body.
What “metal keyboard” means
Manufacturers use metal construction to describe different parts of a keyboard. A full aluminum body surrounds the board; a frame may use aluminum while other parts do not; and a metal top plate is only one layer beneath the switches. Those distinctions affect what you are buying, but they do not by themselves establish typing feel, sound, comfort, or durability.

Keychron describes the Q1 body as “a 6063 aluminum CNC machined body, polished, anodized and sandblasted finish, and twenty-four manufacturing processes.” That is the manufacturer’s description, not an independent durability test. When a product listing says only “aluminum,” check which component the claim refers to.

Choose a layout and connection that fit your setup
For a compact custom mechanical board
The Q1 V2 combines a 75% layout with a full aluminum body and conventional MX-style hot-swap support. It is a wired option, and its listed assembled weight is 1825 g ± 10 g. Consider its size and weight alongside your desk setup rather than assuming metal construction makes it better for every use.
For a split layout
The Q11 separates into two halves that can sit apart or connect with a bridge cable. It supports QMK/VIA remapping and conventional 3-pin and 5-pin MX mechanical switches. Keychron’s page also points to a newer Q11 Ultra 8K, so confirm the exact revision and availability before ordering.

For wireless, low-profile use
The MX Mechanical is the wireless low-profile candidate in this group, with three switch styles and device switching for up to three devices. Its cited page mentions aluminum but does not confirm a full metal body. NuPhy describes the Air75 as having an aluminum frame and a 16 mm thinnest point; verify the current model listing before treating that specification as applicable to the version you plan to buy.

Do not confuse mechanical and magnetic hot-swap switches
“Hot-swappable” does not mean that switches can be freely exchanged across keyboard designs. The Q1 V2’s sockets are for most 3-pin and 5-pin MX-style mechanical switches. The Q1 HE 8K is a magnetic-switch board, and its page names Keychron Lime and Gateron Jade magnetic switches as supported replacements. That compatibility claim is not a promise that ordinary MX-style switches will work in the HE model.

- Before buying replacement switches, match the switch system and socket compatibility to the exact keyboard model.
- For Q1 V2, check that a replacement is a compatible 3-pin or 5-pin MX-style switch.
- For Q1 HE 8K, use the named compatible magnetic-switch types or confirm compatibility with the manufacturer.
What the specifications can—and cannot—tell you
The Q1 V2’s 1000 Hz polling rate and the Q1 HE 8K’s 8000 Hz polling rate are manufacturer-listed model specifications, not evidence that one will feel or perform better for a particular person. The HE 8K’s listed adjustable actuation range is 0.1–3.35 mm; that is a configuration feature, not a measure of comfort or typing accuracy.
Likewise, a metal body, frame or plate does not prove a particular sound, feel, lifespan or gaming advantage. The available specifications identify construction, layout, switch compatibility and features; they do not establish comparative performance.

Check the exact listing before ordering
- Confirm construction. Look for an explicit full-body, frame or top-plate description, rather than relying on “metal” in a headline.
- Confirm the layout. Decide whether you want a 75% board, a split board or a low-profile design; the cited candidates are not full-size keyboards.
- Confirm connection and switching needs. The Keychron Q1 models and Q11 are wired. The MX Mechanical is wireless and can switch among up to three devices.
- Match switches and accessories. Verify the exact socket and switch system before purchasing replacement switches, keycaps or a palm rest.
