“Metal Gear Solid: Raiden” is not the official PC title. The game listed on Steam is METAL GEAR RISING: REVENGEANCE, a PlatinumGames action game published by KONAMI and released on January 9, 2014. A Windows PC should at least match the published Core i5/GTS 450 baseline, while the Core i7/GTX 650 specification is the safer target; Steam Support also states that an XInput controller is required. Those figures are storefront requirements from the 2014 release, not modern benchmark results, so they cannot guarantee a particular Windows 10/11 laptop, integrated GPU, Apple computer, or compatibility layer.
What “Metal Gear Solid: Raiden” refers to
Searches for “Metal Gear Solid: Raiden system requirements” generally point to METAL GEAR RISING: REVENGEANCE. Raiden is the playable character, but “Metal Gear Solid: Raiden” is not the name used by the PC storefront. Using the official title matters when you search your Steam library, look for support information, or compare the game with your hardware.

The official Steam entry identifies PlatinumGames as developer, KONAMI as publisher, and January 9, 2014 as the release date. Its Windows and macOS specifications are unusually old by current standards. Treat them as the publisher’s compatibility thresholds for the PC release, not as evidence that every modern computer will run the game at a particular frame rate.
Official Windows system requirements
The Steam listing gives the following Windows requirements. Both columns list the same operating-system family because that was the supported Windows environment shown for the 2014 release.

These are the values published by Steam/KONAMI for the PC release. “Minimum” is the entry-level configuration the listing expects; it is not a promise of a specific frame rate, resolution, loading time, or visual preset. “Recommended” is a stronger reference point, but it is still not a benchmark result.
How to interpret the processor requirement
The minimum listing names an Intel Core i5 2400, while the recommended listing names an Intel Core i7 3770. Both are older desktop processors. The page does not provide equivalent AMD models, a clock-speed rule, a core-count rule, or testing data for newer laptop CPUs. If your processor is from a later generation, the model number alone is not enough to guarantee performance; power limits, cooling, and the rest of the laptop configuration can matter.
A computer with a processor below the named minimum is outside the published specification. A newer processor is encouraging, but it does not override a graphics, operating-system, storage, or controller shortfall.

The minimum graphics entry is a GeForce GTS 450 and the recommended entry is a GeForce GTX 650. These are publisher-listed thresholds, not results from a current graphics-card test. The listing does not give an official AMD equivalent, an integrated-graphics equivalent, a target resolution, or a target frame rate.

Do not assume that any modern integrated GPU is automatically equivalent because its name is newer, and do not infer an AMD comparison from the Nvidia model numbers. If your computer uses integrated graphics, a mobile GPU, or a graphics card with shared system memory, the official page does not establish how it will perform. You can compare your hardware as a practical estimate, but the result remains configuration-specific.
Memory, DirectX, storage, and sound
The Windows listing specifies 2 GB of RAM at minimum and 4 GB as recommended. Current operating systems and background applications can consume a substantial part of that memory before the game starts, so a machine that barely meets the historical minimum may have little headroom. The requirement is a capacity figure, not a statement about memory speed.
DirectX 9.0c is the API version named by the listing. A newer Windows installation may include newer DirectX components, but that fact alone does not prove that every legacy DirectX dependency is present or that the game will behave identically on a current driver. The requirement should be read together with the operating-system and graphics entries.
The listing calls for 25 GB of available storage. “Available” means free space on the drive where Steam can install the game, not the total capacity printed on the drive. A DirectX-compatible sound card is also listed; modern PCs normally provide compatible audio hardware, but a disabled device, missing driver, or unusual virtual-audio setup can still cause problems.

Official macOS requirements
The storefront also provides a separate macOS specification. Keep the Mac figures separate from the Windows figures: they are not interchangeable, and the page does not establish support for every later macOS release or every current Mac architecture.

The minimum Mac graphics row names three examples, while the recommended row names the Nvidia 750M or better. No frame-rate data, Apple-silicon guidance, current macOS compatibility matrix, or modern equivalent graphics list is supplied. A Mac that meets the old numerical specification may still require an operating-system or storefront-availability check before purchase or installation.
How to check whether your Windows PC matches
Use the same categories as the official table rather than judging compatibility from one component. The following check takes a few minutes and produces the information needed for a sensible comparison.
- Confirm the operating system. Press
Windows+R, enterwinver, and press Enter. Record the Windows edition and version. The historical listing names XP, Vista, 7, and 8; a current Windows release is not covered by that original list, so matching the hardware does not create a guarantee. - Check the processor and installed memory. Open
Settings > System > Aboutand note the processor model and installed RAM. You can also openTask Manager > Performanceto see the CPU model and memory in use. Compare the exact processor family and capacity with the minimum and recommended rows, rather than comparing only the brand name. - Identify the active graphics processor. Open
Task Manager > Performance > GPU. For more detail, pressWindows+R, rundxdiag, and inspect theDisplaytabs. Laptops may show both integrated and discrete GPUs; record both and note which one the game is configured to use. - Measure free storage. In File Explorer, open
This PCand inspect the drive selected for the Steam library. Compare its free space with the storage requirement in the table and leave room for the operating system and normal Steam maintenance. - Check the controller. Steam Support states that an XInput controller is required. Connect the controller, press
Windows+R, runjoy.cpl, and verify that Windows detects it and that its buttons and sticks respond. If the controller offers different input modes, use the mode documented as XInput; detection in the generic game-controller panel alone does not prove that it is presenting XInput. - Compare all categories together. A PC that exceeds the CPU but falls below the graphics or controller requirement is not a complete match. Conversely, a newer GPU does not remove an operating-system, storage, or input-device issue.
What the old requirements mean on a modern computer
Windows 10 and Windows 11
The original Windows row stops at Windows 8. It does not say that Windows 10 or Windows 11 is unsupported, but it also does not certify either release. Compatibility can depend on the game’s legacy runtime components, graphics-driver behavior, display mode, and Steam installation. Consider the modern operating system an unverified variable rather than silently treating it as equivalent to the listed versions.

Integrated and laptop graphics
The official page offers no benchmark for Intel integrated graphics, modern AMD graphics, or laptop versions of the named Nvidia cards. A laptop may also switch between integrated and discrete GPUs, and its processor may run at a lower sustained power limit than a desktop counterpart. Check which GPU is active and avoid promising performance based solely on a newer-sounding model name.
DirectX 9.0c dependencies
DirectX 9.0c identifies the technology generation expected by the listing. Modern DirectX support is not a substitute for every legacy component, and the requirement does not reveal which optional runtime files the installation uses. If the game launches with a missing-DLL or DirectX message, treat that as a runtime or installation problem rather than proof that the graphics card is too slow.

Controller support is part of compatibility, not an optional convenience. Steam Support explicitly labels an XInput controller as required. Before troubleshooting graphics, make sure the controller is connected, recognized by Windows, and operating in its XInput mode when the device provides more than one mode.

- Disconnect extra gamepads and input-emulation devices while testing so you can identify which device the game is receiving.
- If the controller works in Windows but not in the game, check Steam’s per-game controller settings and any in-game input selection before changing graphics settings.
The requirement does not identify a particular controller model, and no specific model is established by the official listing. The important characteristic is XInput compatibility.

A practical decision framework before installing
When your PC meets or exceeds every listed category
Installation is reasonable when the CPU, GPU, memory, free space, and controller all meet the recommended row, but the result is still not a guaranteed frame rate. Keep your graphics drivers current, use the discrete GPU on a dual-GPU laptop when appropriate, and be prepared to test the game’s display settings.
When only the processor is newer
A newer CPU cannot compensate for graphics hardware below the named minimum. Check the GPU first, because the official page provides a graphics threshold but no CPU-for-GPU substitution rule.
When the GPU is newer but memory is limited
A newer graphics card does not eliminate memory pressure. Compare installed RAM with the table, close unnecessary applications, and remember that the historical minimum leaves less headroom than the recommended figure.
When your hardware is close but the controller is missing
Do not treat the controller as optional. Obtain access to an XInput-compatible device before relying on the game as playable; the Steam Support requirement makes input availability a prerequisite.
When you use macOS or a nonstandard compatibility layer
Use the Mac table only for an Intel Mac configuration that matches its stated operating-system, processor, memory, graphics, and storage rows. The supplied specifications do not establish behavior on Apple silicon, a current macOS release, Linux, or another compatibility layer. Those setups require configuration-specific evidence that the official requirements page does not provide.
Troubleshooting common compatibility failures
The game will not launch
- Confirm that Steam finished downloading the complete installation and that the library drive has sufficient free space.
- Use Steam’s game properties to run its installed-files verification, then restart Steam and try again.
- Run
dxdiagand check for display-driver or DirectX errors. A legacy runtime message points to software components, not automatically to an underpowered GPU. - On a laptop, select the intended discrete GPU in the system’s graphics settings and test again.
The game starts but the display is unstable
- Update the graphics driver supplied for your exact GPU and restart the computer.
- Test a simpler resolution or graphics preset to separate a configuration issue from a basic launch issue.
- Disable overlays and unusual capture tools temporarily, then retest with one display and one input device.
- Do not infer a universal frame-rate expectation from the minimum or recommended table; neither column is a benchmark.
The controller is not responding
- Recheck the XInput mode and test the device in
joy.cpl. - Reconnect the controller before launching and remove other gamepads while diagnosing.
- Review Steam’s controller configuration for this game and confirm that the correct device is selected.
macOS installation or launch problems
First verify that the Mac version is available to your account and that your macOS release is compatible with the storefront’s old listing. If your machine uses a newer architecture or operating-system version than the one described, the published table cannot predict the result; avoid treating a successful download as proof of full support.
Bottom line for “Can my PC run it?”
For Windows, compare your exact CPU, GPU, RAM, operating-system version, and free storage with the official minimum and recommended rows, then add the required XInput controller to the checklist. Meeting the recommended hardware is the stronger starting point, but the 2014 Steam requirements do not supply modern benchmarks or guarantee operation on every current Windows computer. For Mac, use the separate Mavericks-era table and treat newer macOS versions, Apple silicon, and compatibility layers as unverified rather than automatically supported.
