Repeated wireless-mouse problems at VALORANT Champions Shanghai triggered technical pauses, a temporary request for players to use wired mice, and a late desk replacement. Riot reportedly traced the interference to specific metal components in the custom desks. The incident also left a disputed round in FUT Esports’ series against 100 Thieves: Riot later said it should have been replayed, but kept the match result.
What happened with the desks and wireless mice?
Players experienced repeated mouse interference during VALORANT Champions Shanghai, leading to multiple technical pauses. Riot asked players to switch to wired mice as a temporary measure while it investigated.

According to Sheep Esports’ October 2 report on an update from Riot esports president Leo Faria, the investigation identified specific metal components in the custom desks as the source of the interference. The coverage does not establish a precise radio-frequency mechanism, so claims about exactly how the desk construction affected the mice would go beyond what has been reported. (Sheep Esports)

What did Riot change?
On the morning of October 2, 2026, Riot installed replacement desks and allowed players to test wireless mice again. Wired peripherals remained the fallback if stuttering continued, according to Sheep Esports. That report is the latest confirmed status in the coverage available as of October 3; it does not establish whether the tests succeeded or whether Riot later lifted the fallback. (Sheep Esports)

Why did the series result stand?
Riot left the result in place rather than reverse a win earned by a team that competed under the same conditions and was not responsible for the ruling. 100 Thieves won the series 2-0. The reported mouse failure and Riot’s admission about the round do not, on their own, establish that the malfunction determined the series outcome. (PC Gamer; Sheep Esports)

What remains unclear?
- The reporting does not explain the precise engineering mechanism by which the desk components interfered with wireless mice.
- It does not confirm whether wireless tests on the replacement desks passed or whether the wired-mouse fallback was later withdrawn.
- Riot’s decision to leave the 100 Thieves result standing followed its review of the disputed round; it does not erase the acknowledged error in failing to allow a replay.
