If your Meta AI glasses say storage is full, first import the captures to your phone in the Meta AI app, confirm that the files open and are backed up, then use the app’s current delete control to remove the glasses’ copies. Do not apply Meta Quest headset instructions to the glasses. Quest uses separate headset storage menus.
First identify which Meta device is full
“Meta VR glasses” can describe two different products, and their file workflows are not interchangeable. Meta AI glasses, including Ray-Ban Meta-style glasses, keep photos and videos on the glasses until the Meta AI app imports them. A Meta Quest headset manages media as headset files in Images and Videos folders.

Meta’s published explanation for its AI glasses is explicit: “Everything you capture on your glasses stays on your glasses until you choose to move them onto your phone using the Meta AI app.” Once imported, the files are saved to the phone’s gallery like other photos and videos. That means the safest cleanup sequence is import, verify, back up, delete from the glasses, and recheck free space.
What “storage full” means on Meta AI glasses
The warning indicates that the glasses need room for additional captures. Meta does not publish one universal number of photos, video minutes, or a single capacity threshold that applies to every glasses model and software version. Capacity and behavior can vary, so do not treat an online estimate as a guaranteed limit for your pair.

Captures can occupy space even when the phone has plenty of free storage. The phone’s gallery and any cloud backup are separate destinations. Importing creates a phone copy; it does not automatically erase the original on the glasses. You must deliberately remove the glasses copy after checking that the imported version is usable.
Safe cleanup workflow for Meta AI glasses
Use this sequence whenever you need to clear room without losing the only copy.
- Pair and connect. Open the current Meta AI app and confirm that the glasses appear as the connected device. Keep Bluetooth and the connection active during the entire import.
- Open the captures or gallery view. Use the app’s area that displays photos and videos recorded by the glasses. The wording and location of this view can change with app releases.
- Import the files to the phone. Select the photos and videos you want to keep and start the app’s import or save action. Leave the app open, keep the glasses nearby, and wait until the transfer completes rather than closing the app partway through.
- Check representative files. Open several imported photos and play at least one imported video from the phone’s normal photo gallery. Check a file from each capture session you plan to delete, not just the first item in the list.
- Allow backup to finish. If the phone uses iCloud, Google Photos, or another backup service, wait until the selected items show as backed up. A file visible in the gallery is not necessarily already stored in the cloud.
- Delete the glasses copies. Return to the Meta AI app’s gallery or storage controls, select only the captures you have verified, and use the current in-app delete control. Confirm the deletion if the app asks.
- Recheck available space. Open the app’s gallery or storage view again and confirm that the selected items are gone and free space has increased before recording more media.
The deletion step is aimed at the originals on the glasses. Do not use the phone gallery’s delete button for this task: that removes the phone copy, not the glasses’ storage. Likewise, removing a cloud backup copy is a separate action and can eliminate your safety copy.

Keep the connection stable
Imports depend on the app-to-glasses connection. Keep the glasses powered on, close enough to the phone, and connected until the app reports completion. Starting a deletion while an import is still pending can leave you unsure which items reached the phone.

Use the phone gallery as the verification point
After import, leave the Meta AI app and open the phone’s ordinary photo gallery. This confirms that the files became normal phone-gallery items, which is the behavior Meta describes for imported captures. Check both still images and videos because a thumbnail alone does not prove that a video plays correctly.
Verify a sample from every batch
If you imported a large group, test representative files from different dates or recording sessions. A successful transfer of one item does not by itself prove that every selected item completed. Keep the glasses connected while you inspect the batch so that you can resume or repeat an incomplete import before deleting anything.
Treat cloud backup as an additional checkpoint
Cloud services can take time to upload new phone-gallery files, especially on a metered connection or when the phone is locked. Wait for the backup service’s own completed status before treating the cloud copy as your recovery copy. If you do not use cloud backup, the verified phone-gallery files are still the destination you should preserve before deleting from the glasses.
Deleting captures from the glasses
Use the app’s current function, not an old menu name
Meta’s app labels can change between releases. Look for the control whose function is to select captures and delete them from the connected glasses, rather than relying on a memorized button name or an older screenshot. The relevant control is in the Meta AI app’s gallery or storage area.

Delete in small, deliberate groups
For a first cleanup, select a manageable group and then recheck the gallery and free-space indicator. This makes it easier to identify a pending import or a connection problem than deleting the entire library in one action. Once the process is reliable, you can repeat it for older verified batches.
Keep copies separate in your thinking
- Glasses copy: the original capture occupying the glasses’ local storage.
- Phone copy: the imported item in the phone’s gallery.
- Cloud copy: an optional backup made by a separate phone service.
Deleting one of these copies does not automatically mean the others are deleted. Before confirming an action, check which device or destination the app is naming.
If the glasses still report full storage
When the warning remains after a confirmed deletion, work through the following checks instead of repeatedly tapping delete.

Return to the app’s captures view and see whether any items are still waiting to transfer. Complete or cancel the pending operation according to the app’s current controls.
- Refresh the connection. Close and reopen the Meta AI app, then check that the glasses reconnect and that the gallery reflects the latest state.
- Restart both ends. Restart the app and the glasses, reconnect them, and inspect the storage view again. The published workflow specifically recommends restarting the app and glasses when the displayed space does not change.
- Confirm the deletion target. Make sure you deleted selected captures from the glasses, not merely from the phone gallery or a cloud service.
- Recheck after the refresh. Take the app’s gallery or storage view again after reconnection. If the count or free-space display is unchanged, avoid deleting additional files until you know whether the app is showing stale information or the earlier operation did not complete.
Do not infer a specific capacity number from the warning. Meta has not established a universal threshold for all models and software versions, so a full indicator can appear at different points on different hardware.

What not to do with Meta AI glasses
- Do not delete first and verify later. Import and test the phone copy before removing the glasses original.
- Do not assume a thumbnail is a complete backup. Play imported videos and check representative photos in the phone gallery.
- Do not close the app during a transfer. Wait for completion while the glasses remain connected.
- Do not use Quest-only storage directions. Quest’s Settings > Storage path applies to the headset family, not the AI glasses workflow.
- Do not buy a cable or external drive for this exact glasses task. The documented glasses process moves captures through the Meta AI app to the phone. A computer-transfer accessory is relevant only if you have confirmed that the device is a Quest headset and you specifically want computer file management.
If you actually mean a Meta Quest headset
Meta Quest is a separate device family. Its media is exposed as headset files rather than the AI-glasses capture queue, so use Quest storage controls instead of the Meta AI app’s glasses gallery.
Delete images from the headset
- Open Settings on the Quest headset.
- Choose Storage.
- Change the category selector from Applications to Images.
- Select the images you no longer need and use the trash icon.
This path comes from Meta Quest support community guidance and is specifically for Quest storage. Menu wording can vary with the headset software version, so use the current equivalent if the labels have moved.
Manage videos and images as connected-device files
Meta Horizon OS developer documentation describes a connected-device file manager with separate Videos and Images folders and a delete action. That is the appropriate model when you are managing Quest media as files from a connected computer or development tool. It is not a replacement for the glasses’ app-based import process.

For Quest, decide whether you are keeping a copy on the headset, moving it to a computer, or preserving it elsewhere. The same verification rule applies: open or play the destination copy before deleting the headset file. The Quest instructions above do not transfer captures to a phone automatically; they only identify where headset files can be managed.

A repeatable maintenance routine
Before a long recording session
Open the Meta AI app and check the glasses’ gallery or storage view. If space is limited, import and clear older verified captures before you start. This is safer than waiting for the warning during an important event, when you may be tempted to delete without checking the destination.
After each session
Connect the glasses, import the new batch, inspect representative files, and wait for any chosen cloud backup to complete. Then delete only the glasses copies you no longer need and verify that free space has changed.
When changing phones or apps
Do not assume that a new phone already contains earlier glasses captures. The documented behavior is that captures remain on the glasses until the Meta AI app moves them to a phone. Pair the glasses with the current app, import the files, and verify the new phone’s gallery before cleaning the glasses.
