The move adds an experienced data-center and compute-capacity operator as Anthropic expands the physical infrastructure used to train and serve its AI models.
What happened
DCD reported that Kebede left Meta after roughly five and a half years and joined Anthropic. At Meta, he was identified as a manager of performance and capacity and as the company’s supply-chain lead for AGI large clusters. DCD says he is working alongside former Meta supply-chain executive Sham Parmar, who also joined Anthropic.

Who is Surafell Kebede?
Kebede’s documented career centers on the planning and procurement problems behind large computing systems rather than model research. His LinkedIn profile describes supply-chain leadership at Meta involving servers, data centers and networks. Before Meta, DCD reports that he held supply-chain roles at Apple and Phillips 66.

Texas Tech University’s 2017 commencement program lists Surafell Kebede in Supply Chain Management. Taken together, the public record shows experience spanning technology manufacturing, energy and hyperscale infrastructure operations.
What his Meta experience covered
Performance and capacity management
Capacity managers match projected computing demand with servers, networking, power and data-center space. Performance work adds the operational question: whether those resources deliver the throughput, availability and efficiency required by large clusters. Kebede’s reported Meta responsibilities therefore relate to planning and operating the physical systems that support AI workloads.
Rank #2
AGI-cluster supply chain
DCD describes Kebede as Meta’s supply-chain lead for AGI large clusters. That work can involve coordinating equipment demand, supplier schedules, deployment timing and site capacity, but the available reporting does not specify which projects, vendors or sites he managed. Those details should not be inferred from the job description alone.
Why Anthropic is hiring this kind of operator
AI laboratories need more than engineers and model researchers to scale. Training and serving models requires dependable access to accelerators and servers, high-bandwidth networks, electricity, cooling, construction capacity and qualified suppliers. Shortages or delays in any one of those areas can postpone a cluster and leave expensive computing hardware underused.
DCD placed Kebede’s hiring in the context of Anthropic’s reported infrastructure expansion. The publication says Anthropic has pledged to invest $50 billion in U.S. data centers. DCD also reported large capacity arrangements or pursuits involving $11.6 billion with Akamai, $35 billion with Lambda, $45 billion with Nscale and $19 billion with TeraWulf. These amounts are industry figures reported by DCD in 2026, not independently confirmed in the available public record, and their status can change as contracts and projects develop.
DCD further reported that Anthropic agreed to rent 300 megawatts of data-center space at facilities operated by xAI and SpaceX. The capacity and contract terms are time-sensitive industry reporting rather than a complete, independently verified inventory of Anthropic’s infrastructure.
How the hire could affect Anthropic’s data-center strategy
Coordinating many capacity sources
Anthropic’s reported arrangements span multiple providers and sites. A supply-chain and capacity leader can help align equipment deliveries, construction schedules, power availability and network readiness across those arrangements. The practical objective is to make capacity available when models and customers need it, rather than merely signing additional space.

Large AI clusters often depend on synchronized deliveries: a site needs suitable power and cooling, servers must arrive in the right configuration, and networking must be commissioned before the cluster can run at scale. Experience with performance and capacity planning is relevant to identifying such dependencies and sequencing deployments, although no source describes Kebede’s specific Anthropic projects.
Best Value
Managing supplier and infrastructure risk
Working with several data-center and compute providers can diversify supply, but it also increases coordination and contractual complexity. Kebede’s background may be useful in tracking lead times, capacity reservations and operational performance across that network. Whether Anthropic assigned him those responsibilities has not been publicly disclosed.

What to watch next
- An official Anthropic announcement that names Kebede’s title or reporting line.
- More precise information about which data centers, power arrangements and suppliers are covered by his role.
- Updates to the reported capacity deals, including project timelines, locations and whether announced figures become binding commitments.
- Evidence that Anthropic’s expanding infrastructure is being commissioned on schedule and converted into usable training or serving capacity.
Kebede’s move is best understood as an infrastructure-operations hire, not a publicly announced change to Anthropic’s model research leadership. It signals that supply-chain execution and capacity planning are becoming increasingly important as the company pursues the large-scale computing resources described in DCD’s reporting.
