Meta also sharply increased promotion for the AI agent, and Sensor Tower recorded a download surge on the day its advertising ramp began. That timing is notable, but it does not establish that advertising alone drove the milestone.
How many downloads does Meta Muse have?
Sensor Tower Senior Insights Analyst Kara Lee projected that Muse had crossed five million downloads by September 30, 2026, according to 9to5Mac’s report. This is an analytics-firm estimate, not a company-audited total. Downloads also do not show how many people are still using Muse, how often they use it, or whether they pay for it.

Earlier estimates differed. TechCrunch reported estimates available around September 24: Sensor Tower put downloads above 3.4 million by September 25, Apptopia estimated 4.3 million, and Appfigures estimated roughly 2.3 million as of Thursday. TechCrunch noted that analytics figures may lag real-world adoption and that providers’ estimates vary. These figures should be read as dated estimates from different firms, not as a single verified count or a precise growth series.
Did Meta advertise Muse heavily?
Yes. Sensor Tower said Meta began ramping Muse advertising on September 16, 2026. On that date, downloads rose 73% day over day, according to figures quoted by 9to5Mac. The timing links the promotion and the spike, but does not measure how many downloads the ads caused; other factors may also have contributed.

Meta’s own advertising inventory
For September 14–27, Sensor Tower estimated that Muse accounted for up to 50% of Meta’s daily house-ad impressions, with Facebook and WhatsApp giving up impression share. That is the proportion of Meta’s own promotional impressions attributed to Muse—not a dollar figure for ad spending. Sensor Tower also ranked Muse among the top 15 U.S. brands by ad impressions for September 21–27, as reported by 9to5Mac.
Promotion beyond Meta’s apps
Sensor Tower had detected Meta house ads for Muse beginning September 9, according to TechCrunch. Within ten days, Muse accounted for most house promotions across Meta properties. Meta also advertised on mobile networks and on Reddit, TikTok, and YouTube. For launch through September 19, Sensor Tower said Muse ads represented 6% of total ad impressions. That figure uses all ad impressions as its denominator; it is different from Muse’s share of Meta’s house-ad inventory. The available reporting does not give a dollar amount for the campaign.

The comparison is about estimated downloads, not active users or product quality. It also does not mean the apps had identical launch conditions: 9to5Mac noted that Grok and Claude were iOS-exclusive during their first five days, while Muse launched on iOS and Android and was available in the U.S. and Canada.

What is Meta Muse, and where is it available?
Muse is Meta’s personal AI agent for adults. At launch on September 8, 2026, the Associated Press described it as available in the U.S. through a separate app or WhatsApp. By September 30, 9to5Mac reported iOS and Android availability in the U.S. and Canada. These are dated availability reports, not a guarantee of current access in every location.
Meta describes Muse as able to help plan and coordinate work toward a user’s goal, including opening a browser and filling out forms. The Associated Press reproduced the company’s description that the agent could also negotiate on a person’s behalf. Those are stated capabilities, not independently verified task-completion results. AP also reported Meta’s claim that Muse runs in a dedicated virtual machine containing the agent and user data; that is Meta’s description of its design, not an independent security audit.

What does the small-business expansion add?
On September 29, Axios reported that Meta had announced Muse for Small Business, with connectors including Asana, Canva, Dropbox, Figma, Intuit QuickBooks, Lovable, Notion, Shopify, Slack, Stripe, and Zoom. The reported use cases include reviewing sales and campaign performance, managing cash flow and inventory, drafting customer messages, and creating ads and other content. Axios characterized it as an expansion of Muse, not a separate small-business app.

Axios reported that most needs could be handled at no cost, with $20- and $100-per-month subscription tiers subject to usage and token limits. These are details from the September 29 report, not independently confirmed current pricing. Meta VP of AI products Vishal Shah told Axios that about one-third of early Muse users were connecting a business account; that company-reported figure does not establish how many businesses retain or pay for the service.

What the milestone does—and does not—show
The five-million figure is an early-scale signal for a launch supported by conspicuous cross-promotion. It is not evidence, by itself, that users return regularly, complete tasks successfully, or convert to paid plans. The reporting cited here does not establish weekly active users at the milestone, verified task-completion rates, advertising’s incremental effect, or total campaign spending. The fairest conclusion is that Muse attracted substantial estimated download volume quickly while Meta promoted it aggressively; the longer-term business and usage outcomes remain unproven.
