Meta’s October 5, 2026 update says supervision for the Meta AI app is available globally and can be set up either in the app or through Family Center.
What parents can see
Meta describes the feature in its own words, in an October 5, 2026 update to its April 23, 2026 newsroom announcement: “By turning on supervision, parents and guardians will be able to see the topics their teen has been asking about over the past seven days, but not the conversations themselves.”

In practice, that boundary breaks down into three parts:
- Visible: categories of topics the teen raised with Meta AI during the prior seven days.
- Not visible: the conversations, meaning the teen’s messages and Meta AI’s replies.
- Not stated: how topics are assigned to categories, whether any topic could be left out of a summary, and how long topic data is kept.
Choosing between the 13+ default and Limited Content
Supervision includes a content setting. The default is the 13+ setting. Parents can choose a stricter option called Limited Content. Meta says Limited Content further limits the kinds of conversations a teen can have in Meta AI. It is a narrower setting, not a complete block: Meta’s announcement does not describe a list of blocked subjects, so a parent should not assume that every sensitive topic is shut off.

How to turn on supervision
Meta’s announcement confirms two entry points, the Meta AI app and Family Center. It does not publish menu paths or button labels, so the steps below describe the sequence rather than exact screens. Use the labels the app or Family Center shows you at the time.
- Choose an entry point: open the Meta AI app, or open Family Center.
- Find the supervision option for the teen’s account and turn it on.
- Select the content setting: keep the default 13+ setting, or choose Limited Content for a stricter experience.
- Confirm the setting is saved. The announcement does not describe a specific confirmation screen.
The sources also do not specify which accounts are eligible or what device or app-version requirements apply. If the option does not appear, check Meta’s current help resources for the app you are using.

Other Meta supervision controls are separate
Meta’s teen controls were announced in separate stages. Each has its own surface, date, and geographic scope, so a control announced for one app should not be assumed to work in another.

The Meta AI app row is the only one whose announced scope includes both a global date and a topic view. Parents in countries outside the initial lists for the April and July rollouts should confirm availability in their own app rather than rely on the announcements alone.

What the announcements do not establish
Every source here is a product announcement from Meta or WhatsApp. They establish what the companies say each control does and when they say it rolled out. They do not independently test whether topic categories are accurate or complete, whether supervision changes a teen’s wellbeing, or how the underlying data is stored, retained, or used. For data handling, Meta’s current privacy documentation is the place to look.
