The Mellow Adair is the likely match for a “$260 mid-century modern sofa”: a Target customer reported paying $256 on sale in January 2024. That is historical pricing, not a current offer. The sofa’s compact styling, firm-foam specification and small-space positioning may suit occasional use, but customer reports disagree sharply on comfort and include early cushion deformation and fabric pilling. There is not enough evidence to call it reliably comfortable or durable for everyday use.
What the $260 price refers to
Target’s Mellow Adair listing is the closest match to this price and style. A verified customer review dated January 24, 2024 said the reviewer bought it for $256 on sale. That review does not establish what the sofa costs now; check the current Target listing before buying.

A separate Wayfair result listed a different mid-century-style sofa, the George Oliver 64-inch three-seater, at $269.99 when the result was crawled about four weeks before the research date. Its foam cushions, steel springs, and metal-and-wood frame make it a different construction, not a like-for-like test or evidence that it is more comfortable or longer-lasting. Its price may also have changed. See the Wayfair listing.

“Small-space” does not mean shallow or suitable for every room. The listed 20.5-inch seat depth is a key dimension to compare with how you like to sit, while the overall depth is about 73 inches. Before ordering, measure the intended spot and the route into it—doorways, hallways, stairs, and turns. The available product information does not establish doorway clearance or guarantee that it will fit through your route. General measuring guidance is also available from Homes & Gardens’ couch-buying guide.
Is it comfortable enough for everyday use?
The available customer reviews do not give a consistent answer. Some Target reviewers liked the sofa’s firm support, appearance, and easy assembly; one said its low seat worked well in a playroom. Others described it as uncomfortable, said the rigid armrests felt like wood with little cushioning, or reported cushions changing shape quickly. One reviewer called it “Not very comfortable, quite small.” These are individual experiences, not a representative comfort survey.

The high-density-foam specification and 20.5-inch seat depth help explain what to consider, but they cannot predict whether the seat will feel right to you. The sofa may be a more reasonable fit for occasional seating or a room where looks and footprint matter more than lounging. If you plan to use it as the main everyday sofa, the conflicting reports make trying it in person, if possible, especially useful.

What customer reports say about wear
Negative reviews include one report of fabric pilling within two weeks, a report of cushion deformation after one day, and another report of seat deformation in under two weeks. Other customers said the sofa met their needs or felt comfortable. Those accounts flag possible concerns but cannot show how common they are or predict a typical lifespan.

No independent lab test, long-term durability study, or representative comfort survey was identified in the sources reviewed, so there is no defensible lifespan estimate. Target’s one-year limited warranty is a listed term, not proof of durability; check the retailer’s current terms for coverage and exclusions before purchase.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Who should consider it—and who should be cautious
- Consider it if: you want a mid-century look, need a sofa for a smaller room, prefer firm seating, and can accept uncertainty about long-term wear.
- Be cautious if: it will be your primary daily lounging spot, you need plush armrests, or early fabric and cushion wear would be unacceptable.
- Before ordering: confirm the current price and return terms, compare the seat depth with a sofa you find comfortable, and measure both the room and delivery route.
Adding an ottoman or throw pillows is an optional way to adjust how you lounge; one customer mentioned doing so. Accessories cannot be assumed to fix cushion deformation or fabric wear.
