The MCHOSE K99 V2 is appealing if you want a full-featured 98% layout and a cushioned, low-ping typing experience. In Tom’s Guide’s review, its gasket mount, dampening and pre-lubed Icy Creamsicle linear switches made for comfortable typing and what reviewer Nikita Achanta called a “creamy-thocky” sound. The trade-offs are real: the case flexes under twisting, the stock switch choice is limited to two linear options, and the reviewer ran into a configuration problem on macOS. Hot-swap support gives you a way to change the switches, but it does not erase the other compromises.
What the K99 V2 is—and what it is not
MCHOSE identifies the K99 V2 as a 99-key keyboard in a 98% layout: it keeps a number pad while using a more compact footprint than a traditional full-size board. It is a separate model from the original K99 and K99 V3, so features and specifications for those versions should not be assumed to apply. MCHOSE lists approximate dimensions of 399 × 150 × 47 mm and a weight of about 1.6 kg, excluding the cable and receiver. MCHOSE’s model FAQ sets out the distinctions.

For the V2, Tom’s Guide lists an ABS plastic case, gasket mount, double-shot PBT keycaps, per-key RGB, three-device pairing and Bluetooth, 2.4 GHz or wired connectivity. MCHOSE’s software guide lists polling choices of 250, 500 and 1,000 Hz for this model. Those V2 options are not the higher polling rates documented for a V3 8K version.
Why the typing feel and sound stand out
Achanta’s reviewed unit used pre-lubed Icy Creamsicle linear switches. The review describes them as requiring 42 g of activation force, with 1.3 mm of pre-travel and 3.5 mm of total travel. Those figures describe the reviewed switch configuration, not every possible K99 V2 variant or a promise that every typist will prefer it.

The reviewer found the gasket-mounted build and six layers of dampening comfortable, with less unwanted vibration and metallic ping. Achanta summarized the construction this way: “The K99 V2 features a gasket-mount design which ensures structural integrity while reducing vibrations and unwanted metallic pings.” The reviewer also characterized the resulting sound as creamy-thocky. That is a subjective impression of one setup, not a standardized sound rating: switches, keycaps, typing force, room acoustics and recording equipment can all change what a keyboard sounds like.
The review reports that Achanta typed 98 words per minute at 91% accuracy on 10fastfingers after unboxing. For context, the same review gives the reviewer’s rolling average across tested keyboards as 92.71 WPM at 91.2% accuracy. These are Achanta’s individual results in 2026, not evidence that the K99 V2 makes users faster.

Three limitations to weigh before buying
The case can flex
Achanta observed flex when twisting the keyboard. That matters if a particularly rigid case is high on your list, even though the reviewer praised the typing comfort and vibration control. Tom’s Guide suggested the Royal Kludge S98 and Keychron K10 V2 as alternatives for shoppers who prioritize a more rigid case; those are suggestions from that review, not a current head-to-head test.
Both stock switch choices are linear
The review lists Hyacinth or Icy Creamsicle linear switches as the stock options. If you want tactile feedback, a clicky sound or a quieter switch, the K99 V2’s hot-swap sockets offer a route to customize rather than requiring you to keep the stock switches. The review and MCHOSE-listed Australian product page support compatibility with 3-pin and 5-pin switches. Check the specific switch’s pin configuration and compatibility before ordering.

MCHOSE’s Australian listing includes a switch puller in the package, so a separate puller is not automatically a necessary purchase. Tom’s Guide also named the Keychron V1 Ultra 8K, Royal Kludge S98 and Royal Kludge L75 as options to consider if a wider choice of stock switches matters more than keeping the K99 V2’s exact layout and feel. These are review suggestions, not verified current comparisons.
macOS configuration may take extra troubleshooting
Tom’s Guide’s reviewer encountered a problem using M HUB Web on the Macs tested. That is an observed issue in that review, not proof of a universal macOS failure or confirmation that it has been fixed. MCHOSE’s M HUB guide says web configuration works through Chrome, Edge or another supported Chromium-based browser with HID permission. Configuration is supported over USB wired or 2.4 GHz mode, not Bluetooth. The downloadable M HUB Driver is listed by Tom’s Guide for Windows 10 and later.

- Open M HUB Web in Chrome, Edge or another supported Chromium-based browser and grant the requested HID permission.
- If configuration still fails on a Mac, the available guidance does not establish a guaranteed fix for the problem reported in the review. Treat software access as a possible limitation if you need to remap keys or adjust settings regularly.
Price and specification details that need a regional check
Prices below are dated snapshots, not universal or guaranteed current prices. Tom’s Guide’s August 27, 2026 review reported $99 direct from MCHOSE in the US, £78 at Amazon UK and $199 at Amazon US. The MCHOSE-listed Australian page displayed A$129 sale and A$169 regular when accessed October 7, 2026. Confirm the current price, exact variant, seller and return terms for your region before buying.
Battery capacity is inconsistent across the cited product information: Tom’s Guide lists 6,000 mAh, while the Australian listing says 8,000 mAh. The discrepancy is not resolved by the available specifications, so verify the exact regional SKU rather than relying on either capacity as universal.

Who should choose the K99 V2?
- A good fit: You want a compact number-pad layout, wireless and wired connection options, per-key RGB, and a cushioned linear typing experience with a sound character you find appealing.
- Think twice: You require a rigid case, want tactile or clicky switches without replacing the stock switches, or depend on reliable Mac software configuration.
- Before you commit: Check the exact switch variant, confirm local pricing and return terms, and verify the battery specification for the SKU you are considering. If you intend to swap switches, confirm 3-pin or 5-pin compatibility.
For a more rigid case or more stock switch choices, compare the alternatives named above against your priorities in layout, software, connectivity and local price. They are leads to investigate, not substitutes proven superior by a direct test in the cited review.
