A report about McDonald’s Indonesia says a publicly accessible customer-data platform contained 28 million customer records, within a larger database of more than 40 million records. The report says the database has since been closed, but it does not establish whether anyone accessed or copied the data. The figures are reported counts, not a verified tally of distinct people affected.
What was reportedly exposed?
Security Magazine, citing Cybernews researchers, reported that McDonald’s Indonesia’s customer-data platform contained more than 40 million records. Of those, 28 million were described as customer records containing names, email addresses, phone numbers and device IDs. The database reportedly also held more than 71,000 advertising-campaign records. These are reported record counts; the source does not verify how many unique customers they represent.

The report says the database was closed and is no longer publicly accessible. That does not show whether an unauthorized person viewed or downloaded data before access ended. The report does not list passwords, payment-card data or government identifiers among the exposed fields, so those should not be assumed to have been included.

What should McDonald’s customers do?
- Be cautious with unexpected messages. Treat calls, emails or texts invoking McDonald’s, account access or loyalty points with suspicion. Do not open unsolicited links or share a password or verification code in response. Cybernews researchers warned of possible social-engineering attempts; the report does not confirm that customers have been contacted.
- Check your loyalty account directly. Use the official app or website to review activity. If something looks unfamiliar, contact McDonald’s using a channel you already know is official. The report identifies possible loyalty fraud as a risk, not a confirmed outcome.
- Change a reused password. If you used the same password for your McDonald’s account and other services, change it and use a unique password. Passwords were not among the fields listed in the report, but reusing them creates a separate account-security risk.
- Use local privacy channels for questions. Privacy rights and reporting routes depend on where you live. McDonald’s U.S. privacy statement describes rights subject to applicable law; it is not an Indonesia-specific notice or remedy. Consult the local McDonald’s privacy channel and the relevant authority in your country.
What is not confirmed?
The reviewed report does not establish when the database became publicly accessible, how it happened, whether anyone accessed or copied records, whether customers were notified, which exact loyalty-transaction details may have been present, or whether fraud resulted. It also does not provide a company-confirmed count of affected people. Public exposure is serious, but it is not by itself proof of data theft or account compromise.

Do not confuse this with other McDonald’s data reports
The 28 million customer-record report concerns McDonald’s Indonesia. A separate August 2026 story covered TheHatman’s claim to sell 1.7 million alleged McDonald’s Corporation employee-directory records associated with Azure or Entra. Cybernews said the sample link did not work when checked and that the access method was unclear. That attacker claim is not evidence about the Indonesian customer platform.
Another unrelated case involved employee scheduling information in Poland. In a July 21, 2025 account, Poland’s data-protection authority, UODO, described a public-directory incident involving worker scheduling details and a third-party processor. It does not establish facts about the Indonesia exposure.
