That is a company target, not a confirmed start date: its latest project update described engineering, environmental studies, permitting preparation, infrastructure planning and financing discussions still in progress.
The 2026 pre-feasibility study (PFS) sets out a first-stage open-pit operation processing 4,800 tonnes per day. Its mine plan covers 1.04 million ounces of gold from a much larger indicated resource, with the company presenting a modular plant and an Ontario-led environmental approval route as parts of a streamlined development approach.

What Mayfair’s Fenn-Gib plan includes
The PFS, announced January 8, 2026 and effective December 19, 2025, describes a conventional truck-and-shovel open pit feeding a modular processing plant. The proposed throughput is 4,800 tonnes per day. Mayfair estimates initial development capital of C$450 million and an 18–24-month main construction period, excluding early works. The PFS mine plan includes 1.04 million ounces of gold, which Mayfair describes as 24% of its 4.3-million-ounce indicated resource. The distinction matters: a mineral resource is not the same as a mineral reserve, and the resource figure should not be read as scheduled production. The study forecasts 920,000 ounces of total life-of-mine production over 14.3 years, reflecting the plan’s production estimate rather than all ounces in the resource.

Production forecast and economics
Mayfair’s PFS forecasts average production of 71,336 ounces per year during the first six operating years. Its base case assumes a gold price of US$3,100 per ounce and an exchange rate of C$1.35 per US dollar. At those assumptions, the study reports an after-tax NPV(5%) of C$652 million, a 24% IRR and a 2.7-year payback period; it also forecasts C$896 million of cumulative free cash flow in years one through six. What “streamlined” means—and what it does not
Mayfair presents the modular plant design as a way to simplify the construction schedule. Its stated approval strategy is to proceed through Ontario’s Provincial Class Environmental Assessment process. In the PFS, the company says the project does not trigger a Comprehensive Environmental Assessment or a federal Impact Assessment under current regulations. This describes Mayfair’s planned route and its understanding of current requirements; it does not mean approvals are complete or rule out future regulatory requirements.

The company says it is advancing three work streams in parallel: Ontario environmental approvals, Indigenous agreements, and engineering, design and procurement. Its broader targets have included major construction within 24–36 months and commercial operations within five years. Project status in 2026
In its July 23, 2026 Q2 project update, Mayfair said it was advancing front-end engineering design (FEED), with Ausenco leading plant engineering, and working on the site layout for the 4,800-tonne-per-day plant. The company also reported continuing environmental baseline studies, preparing an Ontario One Project, One Process submission, planning power and site access, and engaging potential project-financing parties. It listed completing process-plant FEED, tendering detailed engineering, advancing approval submissions and financing discussions, and refining earthworks, tailings-storage and water-management designs among its planned Q3 activities. The company also reported that a 56-hole, 4,200-metre grade-control drilling program was complete, with results finalized in Q2. Mayfair said the results supported confidence in the reserve model for the tested starter-pit area and indicated potential for more higher-grade material there. That interpretation applies to the area tested; it should not be generalized to the whole deposit.
Mayfair’s August 12, 2026 Q2 operating and financial results repeated its goal of starting construction in 2028 and initial production in 2030. In an April 2026 Q1 update, the company had reported submitting a Notice of Project Status and awaiting Ministry guidance, and awarding the environmental assessment and permitting mandate to Egis Canada. The later Q2 project update describes subsequent engineering and project work, but the cited disclosures do not establish that final approvals have been received or that a construction decision has been made. What remains between the study and production
A PFS is a planning study, not evidence that a mine is financed, approved or under construction. The target schedule depends on completing engineering and design, progressing the approval process and Indigenous agreements, arranging financing, and executing construction and commissioning. Mayfair’s updates describe work underway in several of these areas; they do not establish that all conditions for construction or production have been met.

Mayfair’s disclosures caution that forward-looking expectations may differ materially from actual events or results because of risks, uncertainties and other factors. The PFS economics likewise depend on its stated gold-price, exchange-rate, cost and production assumptions. A change in those inputs or in project execution could change the outcome. Why the 2030 date is a target, not a promise
The clearest reading of the disclosures is that Mayfair has a defined first-stage mine concept and a stated target to start production in 2030, while important development work continues. The PFS quantifies the proposed initial scale, cost estimate, production forecast and assumed economics; the company’s 2026 updates describe engineering, permitting preparation, infrastructure and financing activity. Neither the target date nor the study projections confirm that the project will reach production on that schedule.
