1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesThere is no universal winner between Maya Mobile and Airalo. Airalo is the safer fit when its exact local, regional or global package matches your route, data requirement and validity window. Maya Mobile is worth considering if its current TravelMode offer or another active plan fits a multi-country journey, cruise itinerary or fixed trip length. Compare the specific package—not just the brand—because coverage, start date, speed limits, hotspot rules, top-ups, price and refunds vary.
The practical choice comes down to your destination list, expected data use, trip duration and tolerance for changing terms. Airalo publishes package-level rules, including a 3 GB-per-day high-speed threshold on its current unlimited information page. Maya changed its service in 2026, so older prices and plan descriptions may not describe the product offered at checkout.

Quick verdict: choose the plan that matches the itinerary
Choose Airalo when you want a clearly metered package for a named country or region, or when its displayed allowance and validity cover your trip without paying for unused days. Airalo’s package rules are explicit but not identical across products: most packages begin validity when they connect to a supported network, while some begin when installed. The individual package page is the authority.

What Airalo’s package rules mean in practice
Validity is package-specific
Airalo says most packages start their validity period when the eSIM connects to a supported network. Some packages start at installation instead. That difference matters if you install an eSIM at home several days before departure. Read the validity policy on the selected package rather than assuming every Airalo plan behaves the same way. The provider’s help page explains the distinction: Airalo’s package-validity guidance.
Data is an allowance for the whole validity period
For a standard package, the included data applies across the full validity period; it is not automatically a daily allowance. If you use the allowance before the period ends, Airalo says a top-up may be available. Eligibility and whether a top-up changes the expiration date must be checked for that eSIM.

“Unlimited” still has a high-speed ceiling
Airalo’s current official unlimited-plan page states that high-speed data is limited to 3 GB per day at up to 20 Mbps. After that daily allowance, the connection continues at a reduced speed, and the allowance resets every 24 hours. Airalo says hotspot or tethering is supported on these plans, but tethered use counts against the same daily high-speed allowance. Confirm the exact terms shown for the package at purchase: Airalo unlimited packages.
What changed with Maya Mobile in 2026
TravelMode is a newer product, not proof of performance
Maya Mobile’s May 12, 2026 announcement introduced TravelMode as a one-time-installation eSIM covering 165 countries and priced at $3.33 per day while in use. Those figures and the coverage description are Maya’s launch claims. They are not an independently audited country count, speed test or signal comparison. The announcement is available through Maya Mobile’s GlobeNewswire release.
Legacy plans and current duration blocks can coexist
TechRadar’s October 8, 2026 review reported these Maya plan prices at that time: 3 days for $9.99, 7 days for $19.99, 14 days for $27.99 and 30 days for $49.99. The review also noted that the May 2026 platform was new and that older plans remained on Legacy Maya. These prices are a dated secondary-source snapshot, not a guaranteed live price list. Check the current product name, destination coverage, data terms and total charge before checkout at TechRadar’s Maya Mobile review.
How the two current offer structures differ
| Service or offer | What is documented | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Airalo standard packages | Package-specific data allowance and validity; most validity starts on connection, while some starts on installation | Individual package terms control |
| Airalo unlimited information | 3 GB high-speed data per day at 20 Mbps; reduced speed afterward; reset every 24 hours; hotspot supported within the same allowance | Official information page; confirm the selected package |
| Maya TravelMode | One-time-installation eSIM for 165 countries; $3.33 per day while in use | Maya launch claims from May 12, 2026, not independent testing |

Coverage: compare your route, not headline country counts
A country count does not tell you which network serves a particular town, island, border area, aircraft or cruise route. Airalo and Maya can use different local partners, and the available partner can vary by package. Look for the exact countries on your itinerary and, where the provider lists them, the local networks included.

For a single-country vacation, a local Airalo package may be easier to price because the allowance and duration are tied to that destination. For several countries, compare a regional or global Airalo package against Maya’s current TravelMode or multi-country offer. Include every stop, even a short transit or an overnight outside a major city.
An October 7, 2026 comparison from aloSIM places Airalo around metered local and regional choice and Maya around global and cruise-related coverage. That is secondary comparative context from another eSIM provider, not neutral evidence of signal quality. Treat it as a prompt to inspect the providers’ own country and network lists, not as a performance guarantee: aloSIM’s Airalo-versus-Maya comparison.
Data, speed and hotspot decisions
Estimate the way you will actually use data
Navigation, messaging and occasional web use can fit a modest fixed allowance. Video calls, cloud photo backup, social-video uploads and laptop tethering can consume several gigabytes quickly. Write down the devices that will use the eSIM and whether your phone will automatically back up photos or update apps over cellular data.
Understand the difference between fixed and unlimited
A fixed Airalo package gives one allowance for the package’s entire validity period. You retain normal service until that allowance is consumed, then may need an eligible top-up. “Unlimited” on Airalo’s current information page means 3 GB of high-speed data per 24-hour cycle at up to 20 Mbps, followed by reduced speed until the reset. It is not an uncapped high-speed connection.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Maya’s TravelMode announcement and the cited review do not establish a universal speed policy that applies to every Maya plan. Read the data and fair-use wording on the exact Maya offer. Do not compare an Airalo daily high-speed threshold with a Maya plan unless both plans publish equivalent limits.
Hotspot users need a separate check
Airalo says hotspot or tethering is allowed on its unlimited packages, with tethered traffic included in the same 3 GB daily high-speed allowance. That does not mean every Airalo product has identical rules. For Maya, confirm tethering permission and any fair-use cap in the selected plan before relying on a laptop, tablet or travel companion’s phone.
Validity and trip-length matching
Count the period from the moment service must work, not simply from the flight date. Include arrival day, departure day, overnight airport connections and any pre-trip installation period that could trigger validity.

- Airalo: most packages begin when they connect to a supported network, but some begin at installation; the package policy decides.
- Maya TravelMode: the launch description says one-time installation and pricing of $3.33 per day while in use.
- Maya duration blocks: the dated review listed 3-, 7-, 14- and 30-day options, but the current platform and price must be verified.
A plan that appears cheaper per day can cost more if its fixed duration leaves unused days. Conversely, buying several short plans can cost more than one longer plan if your trip crosses a duration boundary. Compare the total checkout price for the exact number of service days you need.
Price, top-ups and the real total cost
There is no single Airalo price to compare with every Maya offer. Airalo prices depend on destination, package type, allowance and duration. Maya’s $3.33-per-day TravelMode figure was a launch claim, while the $9.99 to $49.99 blocks were observed by TechRadar on October 8, 2026. Taxes, currency conversion and any extra data purchase can change the final amount shown to you.
Use this checkout comparison:
- Select the exact countries and regional scope for your route on both services.
- Record the included data, validity length and the date or event that starts validity.
- Check whether the package is fixed-data or unlimited, and note any daily high-speed threshold or reduced-speed policy.
- Confirm hotspot permission if another device will connect.
- Write down the total price in your payment currency, including any displayed taxes or fees.
- Check whether the eSIM can be topped up, what a top-up costs and whether it extends validity. Airalo says eligible eSIMs may be topped up; do not assume every plan qualifies.
Do not treat a top-up as an automatic extension. A top-up can add data while the original expiration date remains unchanged, depending on the package rules.
Refunds and support: Maya’s policy is conditional
Maya’s support policy says unused plans and certain faulty or incompatible plans may qualify for a refund. It also says prepaid fixed-allowance plans that have used more than 10% of their allowance, or unlimited plans that have used more than 1 GB, generally cannot be returned. Requests are manually reviewed, so “100% refund” would be an inaccurate description. Read the current conditions at Maya Mobile’s return policy, updated June 26, 2025.
Airalo’s package pages and support terms should be checked for the particular eSIM you buy. Keep the order confirmation, installation details and any error message. If a plan is incompatible, contact the provider before consuming data; usage can affect eligibility under the applicable policy.

Which service fits common trip types?
One country, predictable use
Start with an Airalo local package if it covers the named destination, gives enough data for the full stay and has a validity trigger that will not start prematurely. Maya can still win if its current price for the same days and allowance is lower, but compare equivalent terms rather than brand-level prices.
Several countries on one itinerary
Compare an Airalo regional or global package with Maya TravelMode’s current country list. Confirm every border crossing and the networks used in less-populated areas. The 165-country TravelMode figure is a Maya-stated launch claim; it does not prove service in every location on your route.

Cruise or remote travel
Look for explicit inclusion of the countries and coastal networks you will use. A headline global count does not guarantee coverage at sea, in port or on a remote island. The reviewed comparative material associates Maya with cruise-related coverage, but that assessment is not independent testing. Verify the exact plan and network terms.
Heavy tethering or video use
Calculate your likely daily consumption. Airalo’s unlimited information page allows hotspot use but limits high-speed data to 3 GB per day before reduced speeds. If that threshold is too low, compare a larger fixed allowance or a different plan whose fair-use terms meet your needs. Confirm Maya’s hotspot and speed policy for the specific offer; it is not established universally by the cited sources.
A trip with uncertain dates
Favor a package whose validity starts on network connection if you need to install it in advance, unless the package explicitly starts at installation and you can delay installation. Recheck Maya’s current duration and activation wording because its 2026 platform changed.
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
Installing before reading the activation rule
Some Airalo packages start at installation. If your plan behaves that way, installing days before departure consumes part of the validity period. Read the individual package policy first.
Assuming unlimited means unlimited speed
Airalo’s stated 3 GB-per-day high-speed allowance is the key limit. After it, service continues at reduced speed until the 24-hour reset. Treat “unlimited” as continuous access with a fair-use speed policy.
Choosing by country count alone
Country totals do not show local partner networks, regional exclusions or performance outside cities. Match every destination and network detail to your route.
Relying on an old Maya price
The $9.99, $19.99, $27.99 and $49.99 figures came from an October 8, 2026 review, while TravelMode launched in May 2026 and Legacy Maya plans remained available. Verify the live product and total charge at checkout.
Waiting to ask for help after heavy use
Maya’s return policy sets usage thresholds and manual review. If activation fails or the phone is incompatible, preserve evidence and contact support before using more data.
A practical decision checklist
- List every country, island, border crossing and cruise port where data is required.
- Confirm the included local networks for the exact package.
- Choose a data allowance based on real use, including tethering and backups.
- Read when validity starts and match it to your arrival and departure times.
- Check daily high-speed limits on unlimited offers.
- Verify hotspot permission and whether tethered traffic shares the same allowance.
- Compare the final price for equivalent days and data, not a headline daily rate.
- Confirm top-up eligibility, top-up cost and whether expiration changes.
- Read refund conditions before installation or heavy use.
- Save the order receipt and plan terms for support.
Bottom line
Airalo is the more straightforward choice when its package-specific destination, allowance and validity rules line up with a defined itinerary. Maya Mobile may be the better fit for a current TravelMode offer or duration block that covers a broad route, but its 2026 product transition makes checking the live plan essential. Compare the exact offer, network list, speed policy, hotspot terms, total price and refund conditions immediately before purchase; that evidence-based comparison is more reliable than naming either brand the universal winner.
