On Android, an eSIM that has signal but no internet may also need the APN globaldata. Do not delete the eSIM while troubleshooting. Reconnect with Airplane Mode for 30 seconds and allow up to 15 minutes for authentication before moving to manual network selection or support.
Maya Mobile’s own connection and installation guides describe several different problems as “not working.” An eSIM can fail during installation, install successfully but show no signal, or connect to a network while mobile data remains unavailable. Treating those as separate symptoms prevents you from changing the wrong setting.

| What you see | Most useful first check |
|---|---|
| The eSIM will not install or the QR code fails | Use a working Wi-Fi or mobile-data connection, check whether the plan already appeared in SIM settings, and try the manual activation code. |
| “Unsupported eSIM” | Check whether the phone is carrier-unlocked. |
| No bars, “Searching,” or no network name | Confirm that you have reached the plan’s destination and that the Maya line is turned on. |
| Bars are present but there is no internet | Choose the Maya eSIM for data, enable roaming on that line, and check the Android APN if applicable. |
| It was just activated and still has no data | Toggle Airplane Mode for 30 seconds, then wait as long as 15 minutes for authentication. |

Before changing settings: verify the destination and preserve the eSIM
Make sure you are in the plan’s service area
Maya says an eSIM can be installed before a trip, but it will not connect to a network until the phone reaches the destination covered by the purchased plan. If you are still at home, installation may be successful while signal and data remain unavailable. Check the country or region printed in your order before treating “Searching” or zero bars as a phone fault. See the eSIM Connection Troubleshooting Guide and eSIM Quick Start Guide, both updated January 27, 2025.

Do not delete the eSIM
Maya’s troubleshooting instructions explicitly say, “DO NOT DELETE THE eSIM FROM YOUR PHONE!” Deleting it can remove information support needs and may prevent reuse of the original activation details. Leave the plan installed while you check settings, reconnect, and contact support. If you have several old eSIMs, identify each by its label before removing anything; do not assume an unfamiliar label is the Maya plan.
Use a reliable internet connection for installation
Initial installation requires an internet connection. If setup stopped after scanning a QR code, connect to dependable Wi-Fi (or another working SIM’s data) before trying again. A plan that silently installed in the background can produce a misleading second-installation error, so check the phone’s SIM list first. Keep the installation screen open long enough for the phone to finish; leaving it midway and immediately rescanning can make it harder to tell whether the profile was added.
Fix an installed eSIM with no data or signal
iPhone: turn on the Maya line and select it for data
- Open Settings > Cellular (called Mobile Service or Mobile Data on some iOS versions).
- Tap the line that represents the Maya plan. It may have a name such as Travel, Secondary, or a name you assigned during setup.
- Turn on Turn On This Line.
- Open the line’s options and enable Data Roaming.
- Return to Cellular and tap Cellular Data (or Mobile Data).
- Select the Maya eSIM as the data line. The phone can keep your home number as the voice line while using Maya for data.
There are two separate choices here: which line is active and which line supplies data. Turning on the Maya line without selecting it under Cellular Data leaves the phone trying to use the home SIM for internet. Conversely, selecting Maya for data while its line switch is off cannot work. Check both controls after every restart or SIM change.
If the Maya plan is not listed at all, do not immediately scan the QR code again. Check whether installation completed under another label, restart the phone once, and then inspect the Cellular list again.
Samsung Galaxy: select the eSIM in SIM Card Manager
- Open Settings > Connections > SIM Card Manager.
- Choose the Maya eSIM as the line for Mobile data.
- Open Settings > Connections > Mobile Networks and turn on Data Roaming for the Maya line.
- Confirm that the eSIM itself is enabled rather than switched off.
Samsung’s labels and screen arrangement vary by One UI version. If you see separate SIM tiles, open the tile that corresponds to the Maya plan rather than the physical home SIM. A data indicator beside the wrong SIM is a useful clue that the selection did not save.
Google Pixel: enable the eSIM and mobile data
- Open Settings > Network & Internet > SIMs.
- Select the Maya eSIM.
- Turn on Use SIM (or the equivalent line switch), Mobile data, and Roaming.
- Make sure the Maya eSIM is the phone’s selected data SIM if more than one SIM is active.
Other Android phones use similar controls under Network, Connections, or Mobile Network. The important combination is an enabled Maya line, roaming enabled on that line, and Maya selected for data. If the phone asks which SIM should handle mobile data during setup, choose Maya rather than “ask every time,” so an automatic switch does not send traffic to the home line.
Android only: correct the APN when signal works but internet does not
If an Android phone shows a network connection but websites and apps cannot load, inspect the eSIM’s Access Point Names (APN). Maya’s Android troubleshooting instructions specify globaldata as the APN and say the username and password should be blank.
- Open the Maya eSIM’s mobile-network settings and find Access Point Names. Depending on the phone, this may be under Settings > Network & Internet > SIMs, Connections > Mobile Networks, or a similar path.
- Create a new APN or edit the APN associated with the Maya line.
- Enter
globaldatain the APN field. - Delete any value in the username and password fields so both remain blank.
- Save the APN and select it as the active APN.
- Turn Airplane Mode on and off as described below, then test a webpage.
Enter the value exactly as shown, with no spaces. Make sure you are editing the Maya profile, not the physical home SIM’s APN. If the phone has separate APN lists for each SIM, switch to the Maya line before opening the editor. This value comes from Maya’s Android instructions. Do not enter globaldata on an iPhone based on this guide; iOS does not use this Android APN procedure in the cited instructions.

Reconnect the phone and allow time for authentication
After correcting the line, roaming, data-SIM, or APN setting, force a fresh network registration:
- Turn on Airplane Mode.
- Leave it on for 30 seconds.
- Turn Airplane Mode off.
- Keep the Maya eSIM enabled and wait up to 15 minutes.
Maya says this reset forces the phone to reconnect and that authentication and 4G LTE or 5G data can take up to 15 minutes. The same maximum wait appears in its installation guidance. It is a provider instruction, not a guaranteed time or an independently measured success rate. Avoid repeatedly deleting and reinstalling the plan during this window. Test with a simple webpage after the wait rather than relying only on an icon; a signal bar can appear before data authentication is complete.
Try manual network selection when automatic connection fails
If you are in the covered destination, the eSIM is enabled, and the phone still will not register automatically, Maya provides a manual-selection procedure for iPhone:
- Open Settings > Cellular (or Mobile Service) and select the Maya eSIM.
- Open Network Selection.
- Switch Automatic off and wait for the phone to list available networks.
- Tap an available network and allow the phone time to attempt registration.
- Once a connection is found, return to Network Selection and turn Automatic back on.
Manual selection cannot create coverage where no partner network is available, and it cannot fix a local outage or an external network problem. If no networks appear, return Automatic to On and continue with the destination and line checks rather than repeatedly forcing a manual choice. A listed network is not a promise that registration will succeed; it only shows that the phone can detect it.
Resolve installation and activation errors
“Unsupported eSIM”
Maya uses this message for a phone that may be carrier-locked: “This eSIM is from a carrier that is not currently supported on this iPhone.” On an iPhone, open Settings > General > About and find Carrier Lock. Maya identifies No SIM restrictions as the unlocked status in its “Unsupported eSIM” guide, published April 17, 2026.
If another status indicates a lock, the original carrier—not Maya—must remove it. Follow that carrier’s unlock requirements before trying the eSIM again. Repeated QR scans will not bypass a device-level carrier restriction. Take a screenshot of the exact message and the Carrier Lock status if you need to show support what happened.
“Data Plan Cannot be Added” on iPhone
Maya says this error can mean the phone lacked a working internet connection during installation. It also notes that the plan may already have installed in the background. Connect to reliable Wi-Fi, then open Settings > Cellular or Mobile Data and look for the Maya plan. If it is present, turn on the line and select it for data instead of scanning again. The provider’s specific instructions are in “Data Plan Cannot be Added” on iPhone.
“Unable to Complete Cellular Plan Change”
Maya lists several possible causes for this activation-server error: no working internet connection, the plan already being installed, or too many eSIMs already stored on the device. Check the SIM list before retrying and remove only an obsolete plan if you are certain it is not the Maya plan you are troubleshooting. The provider says an activation code can be used up to three times on one device. Its detailed article, published April 17, 2026, is “Unable to Complete Cellular Plan Change.” Do not spend one of the permitted attempts while the phone is offline or while the existing profile has not been checked.

The QR code will not scan
Supported devices can use a manual activation code found in the Maya account. Open the device’s option to add an eSIM manually, enter the code exactly as shown, and follow the iPhone or Android/Pixel-specific path in Maya’s manual activation-code guide, published April 17, 2026. Keep the original eSIM installed if a previous attempt may have completed, and check the SIM list before starting another activation. A manual code is an alternative entry method, not a fix for a carrier lock or missing internet connection.
Protect your primary SIM from unexpected roaming charges
Maya recommends enabling roaming on the travel eSIM while disabling roaming on the primary or home SIM. This lets the Maya line use its destination network while reducing the chance that the home carrier bills roaming data.
- On iPhone, leave Data Roaming on for Maya and off for the home line.
- On Android, open each SIM’s roaming control and verify that only the Maya line is allowed to roam.
- Confirm that the phone’s selected mobile-data SIM remains Maya after a restart or a SIM change.
- On iPhone, enable Low Data Mode for the Maya line if you want to limit background use.
- On Android, enable Data Saver to reduce background traffic.
These controls reduce unintended usage; they do not repair an installation failure or create service outside the plan’s destination. If the phone offers a setting that permits mobile data switching between SIMs, leave switching off while diagnosing the connection so the home line cannot silently become the data line.

When the problem is probably outside your phone
If the plan is for the correct destination, appears in SIM settings, is enabled, is selected for data, has roaming enabled, and still fails after the 30-second Airplane Mode reset and 15-minute wait, the remaining cause may be a local coverage gap, a partner-network outage, or an activation problem on the provider’s side. Maya’s guide notes that an area without service or an external network issue can be outside its control. Do not keep changing APN values or deleting the eSIM when those checks have already passed.
Use the phone’s status as a boundary: no network name points toward destination, coverage, line, or network-selection checks; a network name with no data points toward data-SIM, roaming, or APN settings; an installation error points toward internet access, carrier lock, an existing profile, or the activation server. This symptom split keeps troubleshooting targeted.
What to send Maya support
Submit a support request after completing the relevant checks. Preserve the eSIM and include enough detail for support to distinguish an installation error from a roaming or data-selection problem:
- Your current country or region and the destination covered by the plan.
- The phone model and operating-system version.
- The exact error wording, including whether it says “Unsupported eSIM,” “Data Plan Cannot be Added,” or “Unable to Complete Cellular Plan Change.”
- Whether the Maya plan appears under Cellular, Mobile Service, SIMs, or SIM Card Manager.
- Whether the line is enabled, roaming is on for that line, and Maya is selected for mobile data.
- For Android, whether you entered
globaldatawith blank username and password fields. - Whether you completed the 30-second Airplane Mode reset and waited up to 15 minutes.
- Whether manual network selection displayed any available networks.
This information is practical troubleshooting context rather than a quoted support-form requirement, but it prevents a long exchange in which the same basic checks have to be repeated. Include screenshots when an error is difficult to reproduce, while hiding account numbers or other private information that support does not need.

Frequently asked questions
Can I install a Maya eSIM before I fly?
Yes. Maya says installation can happen before travel, but the profile will not connect until you reach the destination included in the plan. A successful installation at home is therefore not proof that the plan is defective.

Should I delete and reinstall the eSIM?
No. Maya explicitly says not to delete the eSIM during connection troubleshooting. Check whether it is already present, enabled, and selected for data before attempting another activation.
How long should Maya eSIM activation take?
Maya advises a 30-second Airplane Mode cycle and then allowing up to 15 minutes for authentication and 4G LTE or 5G data. This is a provider instruction, not a guarantee that every connection will complete within that time.
Why do I have bars but no internet?
Check that Maya, rather than the home SIM, is selected for mobile data and that roaming is enabled on the Maya line. On Android, verify the APN is globaldata with blank username and password fields.

What does “Unsupported eSIM” mean?
Maya associates this message with a possible carrier lock. On iPhone, check Settings > General > About > Carrier Lock. “No SIM restrictions” is the unlocked status identified by Maya; the original carrier must handle any lock.
Can I use the manual activation code if the QR code fails?
For supported devices, Maya provides a manual activation code in the customer account. Use the device’s add-eSIM option and follow Maya’s iPhone or Android/Pixel instructions, but first confirm that an earlier attempt did not already install the plan.
How do I avoid roaming charges from my home carrier?
Leave roaming on for the Maya travel line and turn it off for the primary home SIM. Also confirm Maya remains the selected data SIM, and use Low Data Mode on iPhone or Data Saver on Android to reduce background traffic.

Bottom line
Most Maya Mobile eSIM failures are narrowed down by four checks: destination, enabled line, roaming and data-SIM selection, and—on Android—the globaldata APN. Give the phone a 30-second Airplane Mode reset and up to 15 minutes to authenticate. For activation messages, check the phone’s lock status and SIM list before attempting another installation, and never delete the eSIM while diagnosing the problem.
