The original Matic robot vacuum is reported to have been added to an FCC waiver list on October 2, 2026—but the listing does not mean the robot had previously been banned. According to The Verge’s October 5 report, its radios had already received FCC approval, and the company assembles the robot in Mountain View, California.
What the FCC waiver listing covers
The Verge reports that the October 2, 2026 addition names the original Matic robot vacuum, model 4MA0001, and its charging dock, model 4DK0008. The report describes the action as a waiver listing; it does not establish that every Matic product is covered.

The Verge reporter Sean Hollister summed up the distinction this way: “Well, sort of — because the Matic wasn’t banned to begin with.” That is Hollister’s characterization, not a quotation from the FCC or Matic.

Why the existing Matic may not have needed the waiver
As The Verge explains it, the robot’s radio components had already received FCC approval, and Matic assembles the robot in Mountain View, California. On that account, the waiver was not needed for the existing model in practical terms. The FCC entry and its precise terms were not independently established here, so the reported rationale should not be read as a broader legal interpretation.
#1 Best Overall
- 2-in-1 Robot Vacuum and Mop with Detachable Deep Cleaner: A self-cleaning roller mop robot vacuum with a detachable portable deep cleaner for hard floors, carpets, and fabric surfaces in one machine.
- Detachable Portable Deep Cleaner: Lift it off the station to tackle spills, pet messes, and stains on carpets, sofas, stairs, and car seats. No bulky separate cleaner needed.
- 20,000 Pa Suction with Carpet Detection: Powerful pickup removes dust, pet hair, and debris, with automatic suction adjustment when the robot moves from hard floors onto carpets.
- DuoSpiral Anti-Tangle Brushes: Designed to stop hair and fur from wrapping around the rollers, reducing brush cleaning time in homes with pets or long hair.
- CornerRover Arm for Corner-to-Edge Cleaning: An extending arm reaches along walls and into corners for full edge coverage, so dust and pet hair have nowhere to hide.
What the listing does—and does not—mean
- It identifies particular models: the reported listing names robot 4MA0001 and dock 4DK0008, not the Matic brand as a whole.
- It is not a product endorsement: a regulatory listing does not establish the vacuum’s cleaning performance or overall quality.
- It does not settle the status of future products: the report does not say that later Matic products automatically receive the same treatment.
- It does not mean the existing robot had been banned: the report says its radios had already been approved and describes the waiver as unnecessary for that product.
What buyers should take from the news
If you are considering the original Matic, the waiver headline alone is not evidence that it was previously prohibited or that buying it is newly safer. It is a reported listing tied to named models. The report does not verify current retail availability, and the FCC action says nothing about whether the vacuum is the right fit for your home.
