If you own Even Realities G2 smart glasses, the biggest gains come from mastering a few gestures and choosing the right mode for each task. These 10 hacks every Even Realities G2 smart glasses user should know cover the Menu, touchpad navigation, Teleprompt, Translate, Even AI, voice control, firmware differences and the optional R1 ring. The steps reflect the manufacturer’s documented instructions; app and firmware behavior can change, so check the current options shown in your Even app.
1. Learn the Menu gesture that matches your firmware
The Menu is the quickest launch point for the G2’s major features. The gesture changed with firmware, so use the version that matches your glasses:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- Firmware 2.2.9 or later: tap the touchpad, then immediately press and hold it for one second.
- Firmware earlier than 2.2.9: press and hold the touchpad for one second.
If nothing appears, check the G2 firmware in the Even app before repeating the gesture. A failed attempt can simply mean you used the instruction for the other firmware generation. Once the Menu opens, use it to launch features instead of trying to remember separate starting gestures for every function. This is especially useful when switching between Teleprompt, Translate and other tools because the Menu gives you one consistent starting point even when an individual feature has additional settings.
2. Use the correct swipe direction on glasses and R1
Navigation is directional, but the direction depends on which controller you are wearing. On the G2 temple touchpad, swipe forward or backward to move through Menu choices. On the optional R1 control ring, swipe up or down instead. A single tap opens the highlighted item.

This distinction matters when you switch between controllers: a swipe that feels natural on the ring will not be the same physical motion as a swipe on the glasses. The R1 is not required for G2 operation. If you use one, the official support guidance says it provides the same control functions as the temple touchpads when it is worn correctly and maintains a stable connection to both the app and the glasses. If the ring stops responding, check its fit and both connections before assuming that the feature itself is unavailable.
3. Keep the essential touch gestures within reach
The official G2 control reference groups the most useful actions into a small set of gestures:
- Single tap: select or open the current item.
- Double tap: invoke the feature assigned to that gesture in the current interface.
- Tap, then long-press: open the Menu on firmware 2.2.9 and later.
- Scrolling: swipe on the temple touchpad to move through content or choices.
- Restart: tap rapidly five times on both sides.
- Regulatory information: tap rapidly ten times.
- Silent Mode: press and hold both sides simultaneously for one second.
Double tap is context-dependent, so treat the current screen as the authority for what it does. The five-tap restart and ten-tap regulatory shortcut require quick, deliberate taps; slow taps may be interpreted as separate commands. Practice these controls while stationary. Do not perform repeated taps, restarts or other attention-demanding gestures while driving, cycling in traffic or handling machinery. If a gesture does not respond, pause and verify that you are touching the active control surface rather than the frame.
4. Pick Teleprompt mode for the way you speak
Teleprompt offers three pacing methods. Choosing deliberately is more reliable than trying to compensate for a poor fit while presenting.
| Mode | How it moves the script | Best fit |
|---|---|---|
| AI | Follows your speech | Hands-free pacing when your delivery speed varies |
| Auto | Scrolls at a fixed speed | Predictable pacing for a rehearsed read |
| Manual | Waits for your input | Full control when you decide exactly when to advance |
AI mode is the natural choice when you pause, speed up or slow down during a conversational delivery. Auto mode is easier to rehearse because the scroll rate stays fixed, but you must match your speaking pace to it. Manual mode avoids automatic movement altogether and suits demonstrations, interviews or any presentation where you want to advance only after making eye contact or taking a question.
Import scripts through the app as TXT, DOCX or PDF files up to 255 KB. The Teleprompt guide recommends simple, text-based PDF layouts; heavily designed PDFs can be harder for the glasses to display cleanly. Select the mode before you start, then run through the opening paragraph so you can confirm that the pacing matches your speaking style and that line breaks do not interrupt a phrase.

5. Set the visible Teleprompt area before you present
With the Even app and G2 firmware at version 2.2.6 or later, Teleprompt preview lets you adjust both display height and prompting width. Display height can be set from five to nine lines.

- Open the Teleprompt script preview in the Even app.
- Set the visible height between five and nine lines.
- Adjust prompting width until lines fit your preferred reading rhythm.
- Preview a paragraph at the selected size before starting the session.
Five lines keep the visual field focused when you want to glance up frequently. Nine lines provide more advance context when a sentence runs long. Width changes line breaks, so always check the actual phrasing after resizing rather than assuming the same sentence will remain on one line. A line that wraps at an awkward word can force you to look down or lose your place, even though the script itself is correct.
6. Use countdowns and per-script resume when a session is interrupted
Teleprompt supports three countdown choices: start immediately, wait five seconds or wait ten seconds. A short delay gives you time to settle your posture and look toward the audience before text begins to move. Immediate start is useful for a quick rehearsal, while five or ten seconds creates a deliberate pause before a live opening.
The guide also documents an auto-resume setting for each script. Enable it when you expect pauses, rehearsals or multiple takes and want to return to the previous reading position. Leave it off when every run should begin at the first line. Decide this per script so a saved position does not unexpectedly place you in the middle of a presentation. Before an important take, confirm both the countdown and resume choice in the script settings rather than relying on the settings from another file.
7. Change Translate’s on-glasses view with one tap
During a Translate session, a single tap switches between two display layouts:
| Display | What appears in the glasses | When it helps |
|---|---|---|
| Translation-only | The translated result | When you need a clear, uncluttered target-language prompt |
| Original plus translation | The recognized original text together with its translation | When you need to verify what the system heard while following the meaning |
The app also shows the recognized text and the translated text, giving you a second place to inspect the exchange. If the result looks wrong, compare the recognized wording first; an error in recognition and an error in translation require different corrections. Translation-only is less visually busy, while original-plus-translation is better for checking names, numbers or an unfamiliar phrase before responding.

8. Relaunch Translate from the Menu for a faster repeat session
When you start Translate from the G2 Menu, it uses the last selected language pair and the last selected voice-input device. That makes it useful for recurring conversations where the participants and microphone setup have not changed. It also reduces setup steps when you need to restart a session quickly.
- Open the G2 Menu with the firmware-appropriate gesture.
- Select Translate.
- Confirm the remembered language pair and voice-input device before speaking.
- Change either selection in the app if the situation is different.
Ended sessions are saved in the app under Translate > Records, where they can be exported. Review the record after an important conversation rather than relying on memory of what was recognized or translated. Remembered settings are convenient, not universal: a new conversation, a different speaker or a different input device is a reason to verify both selections before you begin.
9. Use “Hey Even” for supported feature controls
The Even Realities Support Center describes the product this way: “Even AI is the AI assistant built into Even G2.” Voice activation starts with the wake phrase Hey Even. Supported commands documented for the feature include:
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →- Even AI
- Translate
- Navigate
- Teleprompt
- Brightness
- Notifications
Continuous listening can support follow-up questions, so you do not necessarily need to repeat the wake phrase for every exchange. Speak the command clearly and wait for the glasses to respond before issuing another one. Voice control is most useful when your hands are occupied or when opening a feature through the Menu would interrupt what you are doing. For a dependable launch, use the exact feature name rather than a long sentence that combines several requests.
10. Check Silent Mode and language support before depending on voice features
Silent Mode disables voice activation, including “Hey Even.” If a voice command appears not to work, first check whether Silent Mode is active before troubleshooting the microphone or repeating the phrase.
Language availability is not uniform across G2 features. Translate language pairs, Even AI interactions and other voice functions can have different support, and the list may change with software updates. Before a trip, presentation or multilingual conversation:

- Open the current language and feature options in the Even app.
- Verify the exact language pair you need for Translate.
- Check that the selected voice-input device is available.
- Run a short test in the same environment where you will use the glasses.
Do not assume that support for one language in one feature guarantees support elsewhere. The app’s current choices are the authoritative check for your software version. If a language pair is missing, changing the display mode or repeating the wake phrase will not add it; choose a listed pair or update your plan for the conversation.

These checks take less than a minute and prevent most avoidable surprises:
- Confirm the G2 firmware, especially if the Menu gesture behaves differently.
- Exit Silent Mode before relying on “Hey Even.”
- For Teleprompt, verify file type, file size, mode, visible lines, width and countdown.
- For Translate, verify the language pair and input device, then choose translation-only or original-plus-translation view.
- If using R1, confirm that it is worn correctly and connected to both the app and glasses.
- Practice gestures while stationary rather than learning them during travel or a live presentation.
For a presentation, open the exact script you will use and read several lines in the chosen mode. For a translation session, start a short exchange, inspect the recognized and translated text in the app, and confirm that the displayed language pair is correct. These small checks expose a wrong file, remembered setting, unsupported language or active Silent Mode before it matters.
Quick troubleshooting by symptom
The Menu will not open: check whether the glasses are on firmware 2.2.9 or later and use the tap-then-long-press gesture for that version. Earlier firmware uses a one-second long-press by itself.
The ring does not navigate: use up/down swipes, then confirm the R1 is worn correctly and connected to both the app and the glasses. Temple controls remain available even when the ring is not being used.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the R1 ring required to use Even Realities G2?
No. The R1 is an optional control accessory. Official support says it provides the same control functions as the temple touchpads when worn correctly and connected stably to both the app and the glasses.
Recommended Free Tools
What files can Teleprompt import?
Teleprompt accepts TXT, DOCX and PDF files up to 255 KB. The guide recommends simple, text-based PDF layouts for cleaner display.
How many lines can appear in Teleprompt preview?
On the app with G2 firmware 2.2.6 or later, display height can be set from five to nine lines, with prompting width adjusted separately.
Can I control Translate’s display without opening the app?
Yes. During a Translate session, a single tap switches between translation-only and original-plus-translation views. The app still shows recognized and translated text for review.
Does Translate remember my previous setup?
Starting Translate from the G2 Menu uses the last selected language pair and voice-input device. Confirm both before speaking, especially when the conversation or device has changed.
Why does Hey Even not respond?
Voice activation is unavailable in Silent Mode. Also check the current app options because language support differs among features and can change with software updates.
The Bottom Line
The fastest way to get more from Even Realities G2 is to make its documented choices deliberate: use the firmware-specific Menu gesture, learn the different swipe directions, match Teleprompt mode and layout to your delivery, verify Translate settings, and keep Silent Mode and language limitations in mind. The R1 ring can duplicate temple controls, but it remains optional. A short stationary test before travel or a presentation catches most setup errors without relying on guesswork.
