Both games are designed as solo experiences. Neither should be bought with the expectation of online co-op or a second local player joining the campaign. Character switching in Spider-Man 2 changes your playable hero, not the number of people in the session.
The central difference is the hero fantasy
Wolverine is a Logan-centered journey
Wolverine puts Logan at the center of every major decision and encounter. The story follows him as he returns to the mutant task force Team X while a threat involving kidnapped mutants develops. That focus matters if you want a game built around one character’s identity rather than a rotating cast of heroes. Logan’s healing factor, claws and aggressive close-range style are the foundation of the adventure, and the official materials describe techniques, adaptations and a combat Rage ability as parts of his progression.
The premise also points toward a more concentrated kind of superhero storytelling. Team X and the kidnapped-mutant threat put Logan’s history and the wider mutant conflict at the center, rather than making a citywide patrol the main activity. The game is a new story, not a retelling of a film plot, so the appeal is an original Insomniac interpretation of the character.
Spider-Man 2 divides the spotlight between Peter and Miles
Spider-Man 2 is structured around two heroes whose abilities and story elements differ. Peter Parker and Miles Morales face the danger together, with Kraven’s Great Hunt, the Lizard and Venom forming the central threats. The official FAQ says players can “switch between the heroic Spider-Men” to experience their individual gameplay abilities and story elements: PlayStation’s Spider-Man 2 page.
Switching characters does not turn the game into co-op. You remain one player controlling one Spider-Man at a time, with the campaign presenting Peter’s and Miles’s perspectives and powers within the same story. Is Marvel’s Wolverine open world?

Spider-Man 2 uses an expansive New York
Spider-Man 2 takes place across an expansive Marvel New York that includes Queens and Brooklyn, in addition to the city areas associated with the series. The larger setting is not just scenery: movement through it is one of the game’s defining activities. The result is a game where crossing the map can itself feel like part of the superhero role.
This is the clearest structural choice between the two games. Wolverine concentrates on a directed Logan story; Spider-Man 2 gives you a broad city environment designed for repeated traversal between missions and activities. If you enjoy deciding how to get from one point to another, Spider-Man 2 supplies that layer of play, while Wolverine’s official description deliberately avoids an open-world promise.

Spider-Man 2’s two combat kits
Spider-Man 2 separates Peter and Miles through different powers. Peter has symbiote abilities, while Miles uses bioelectric abilities. That gives Spider-Man 2 a broader combat vocabulary at the character level. PS5 features, editions and practical requirements
Both games are PS5 releases, and official coverage discusses PS5 presentation features including DualSense haptics and adaptive triggers. A standard DualSense wireless controller is enough to play either game; no special or limited-edition controller is required.
Spider-Man 2’s official FAQ references a collector’s edition with a statue of both Spider-Men facing Venom, a game voucher and a SteelBook display case. Those are the listed contents of that edition, not a guarantee that it is currently in stock. Official materials establish the release dates, platforms, protagonists, world structures, traversal features and story premises above.
