That table is more useful than asking which game is universally “better.” A player who wants a tightly directed Wolverine story is looking for a different structure from someone who wants to cross a city repeatedly under their own control.

Is Marvel’s Wolverine open world?
No. Marvel’s Wolverine is explicitly not set in an open world. Its official feature description instead emphasizes a story that travels across several global locations and uses action set pieces to move Logan’s journey forward.

The game’s geography is organized around the narrative rather than around one city that you can freely cross at any time. Canada, Japan and Madripoor provide distinct stages for Logan’s story, but the official material does not describe them as one seamless sandbox. The practical implication is that progression, encounters and discoveries are expected to follow the campaign’s direction.
This structure suits a character whose signature is physical confrontation. Wolverine can be placed in a corridor, settlement, facility or other set piece where the designers control the approach to a fight and the way the story reveals Logan’s past. It also avoids making free-roaming travel the measure of the game’s identity.
How Spider-Man 2’s open world changes the experience
Spider-Man 2 treats Marvel’s New York as a playground as well as a story setting. The official description highlights web swinging, jumping and Web Wings across an expanded map that includes Brooklyn and Queens.

For Spider-Man, movement is not a transition between missions. It is one of the reasons to leave a mission marker at all. Swinging through the city, jumping between structures and opening the Web Wings changes how you read the environment: streets, rooftops and gaps between buildings become routes rather than scenery.
The expanded New York setting also gives the two heroes room to move through a recognizable but broader urban space. Peter and Miles can share the same city while the player changes perspective between them, keeping traversal connected to both the story and the open-world format.
Why the difference matters
If your favorite part of a superhero game is deciding how to get from one activity to another, Spider-Man 2 offers that freedom directly. If you would rather have the campaign decide the next destination and concentrate on the encounter in front of you, Wolverine’s directed structure is the closer match. Neither format is a technical upgrade over the other; they serve different pacing goals.

The three approaches named by the game’s description suggest different ways to enter an encounter. Stalking implies reading an area and approaching with intent. Ambushing emphasizes the opening moment, when Logan turns surprise into an advantage. Overpowering describes the direct option: meeting enemies head-on and relying on the character’s brutal close-range capability.
The official material also mentions difficulty settings and a rage system. Those options matter because they let players decide how demanding or forceful the combat should feel, rather than locking every player into one intensity level. The existence of these systems does not, by itself, prove a particular difficulty curve or combat quality; it establishes the tools the game provides.
Destruction and damage as visual priorities
In an Insomniac Games interview, the developers describe a visual approach involving destruction and damage. That is consistent with the game’s stated goal of making Wolverine’s contact with the world feel more physical. It is a design intention, not an independent performance assessment, but it explains why the studio presents the claws as an essential priority rather than as one ability among many.

What Spider-Man 2 officially emphasizes
Spider-Man 2’s official description foregrounds web traversal, powers and two playable heroes. Those features point to a combat-and-movement loop in which Peter and Miles use their abilities while navigating the city. The page does not provide a neutral ranking of combat systems, so it is more accurate to describe Spider-Man 2 as the mobility-led counterpart to Wolverine than to claim that one has objectively superior fighting.
The contrast is straightforward: Wolverine’s design starts with the question of what it feels like to collide with an enemy as Logan; Spider-Man 2 starts with how a super-powered hero moves through and responds to a city. Both include action, but their stated priorities are different.
Playable characters and story stakes
Logan’s single-hero campaign
Marvel’s Wolverine follows Logan. The official story setup has him rejoining Team X to counter Bolivar Trask’s kidnapping of mutants. Peter and Miles share Spider-Man 2
Spider-Man 2 follows Peter Parker and Miles Morales. The central pressure comes from a symbiote threat that affects their relationships and their responsibility to protect people in New York.
Having two playable heroes changes the structure of the story and the way the player experiences the city. The official description specifically identifies both characters and the ability to switch between them. That is a different narrative proposition from Wolverine’s single viewpoint: the stakes are distributed across two Spider-Men whose personal lives and duties can pull against each other.
Personal history versus shared responsibility
Wolverine’s premise is rooted in Logan’s past and mutant survival. Spider-Man 2’s is rooted in the partnership and tension between Peter and Miles as a threat tests their relationships. If you prefer a campaign built around one character’s identity, Wolverine is the natural fit. If you want a story that follows two heroes balancing each other and sharing a city, Spider-Man 2 takes that route.

Wolverine’s locations are deliberately varied. Moving among Canada, Japan and Madripoor lets the story change its backdrop and context while remaining a directed action-adventure. Spider-Man 2 expands its version of Marvel’s New York to include Brooklyn and Queens. Those boroughs matter mechanically because they create more space for swinging, jumping and Web Wings. They also matter narratively: Peter and Miles’ responsibility is tied to protecting a populated city, so movement and story duty remain connected.
How the settings affect pacing
A global sequence of locations naturally supports chapter-based escalation and set pieces. A large city supports self-directed detours and repeated traversal between activities. Choosing between the games therefore includes choosing how much geographic control you want between story moments.

Accessibility features
PlayStation lists gameplay assists, motion-sensitivity controls, visual filters, audio options, subtitle settings and violence customization for Wolverine. An August 28 PlayStation Blog post says the game includes “over 100+” new, returning and improved accessibility features.
The Spider-Man 2 game page lists 30 accessibility features. These are publisher-reported counts, and a higher number alone cannot determine which game will work better for a particular player. The relevant question is whether the specific control, visual, audio, subtitle or violence setting you need is available and effective for you.
How to use the counts responsibly
- Treat “over 100+” as the publisher’s wording for Wolverine, not as a standardized industry measurement.
- Treat Spider-Man 2’s 30 features as the count listed on its PlayStation page.
- Check the individual options—such as motion sensitivity, subtitles, audio controls or violence customization—against your own requirements.
- Do not infer that either game is universally more accessible from the headline count alone.

If you are deciding based on combat alone
Start with the fantasy you want to inhabit. Wolverine is about being in contact with an enemy and making the claws the decisive instrument. Spider-Man 2 is about combining powers with movement while operating across a city. Since the official descriptions emphasize different priorities, a preference for one does not imply that the other is deficient.
What Insomniac says about the design contrast
In a PlayStation Blog interview dated September 14, 2026, Insomniac Games creative director Marcus Smith said: “So, while Spider-Man is an open-world game, he’s so tied to New York, with Wolverine everything is closer, more visceral, more contact with the world, more grounded.”
