Marvel’s Wolverine is out now. Insomniac Games’ single-player action-adventure launched worldwide on September 15, 2026, exclusively for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro. It follows Logan as he returns to Team X while Bolivar Trask kidnaps mutants, taking him through Canada, Tokyo, and Madripoor.
The game is built around aggressive adamantium-claw combat, stealth, heightened senses, swappable Techniques and Adaptations, and a combat Rage state. PlayStation also confirms that it is not an open-world game, so the main appeal is a focused, cinematic Wolverine story rather than a map filled with unrelated activities.

Marvel’s Wolverine is a third-person, single-player action-adventure with a strong narrative focus. Logan fights with his claws at close range, uses stealth when a direct assault is risky, and relies on heightened senses to read environments and enemies. Progression lets you change the abilities he carries into an encounter rather than locking every player into one permanent build.
#1 Best Overall
- Marvel’s Wolverine is a new action-packed adventure from Insomniac Games
- Play as Wolverine and Ravage enemies with explosive brutality and unleash razor-sharp adamantium claws to deploy fast, fluid attacks and overcome impossible odds
- An Original, Emotionally Charged Story. Beneath Wolverine’s gruff exterior and violent temperament is a man fighting for a cause greater than himself
- A Global, Adrenaline-Fueled Journey where you slice into enemies across detailed locales such as the frosted Canadian Wilderness, the narrow streets of Tokyo, and the high and low districts of the island nation of Madripoor
PlayStation’s description emphasizes fast, fluid, aggressive combat. That wording explains the intended rhythm: close distance, make decisive attacks, exploit openings, and use Wolverine’s powers to keep momentum. Official material does not establish review scores, frame-rate results, campaign length, or hands-on judgments about how the combat feels, so those qualities should not be treated as guaranteed performance claims.
Adamantium-claw melee
Wolverine’s claws are the core weapon. The official feature description identifies fast melee attacks and an aggressive style built around direct contact with opponents. Expect the claws to be the default answer when Logan is within striking distance, with the broader ability system adding options around that foundation.
Stealth and heightened senses
Logan is not limited to charging into every fight. Stealth lets him stalk or ambush enemies, while heightened senses help him detect threats and read his surroundings. This creates two distinct approaches: remove or bypass dangers quietly, or enter a confrontation openly and rely on claw attacks and powers.

Two progression categories are named in the official materials: Techniques and Adaptations. They are swappable, allowing you to configure the abilities Logan takes into a situation. The available descriptions do not provide a complete skill tree or a full list of effects, but they establish that progression is intended to be adjustable rather than purely linear.
Rage
Aggressive momentum builds Rage during combat. Once available, Rage can be activated in the middle of a fight. The mechanic gives sustained offense a payoff and reinforces the fantasy of Wolverine becoming more dangerous as a battle intensifies. Exact charge rates, duration, damage values, and upgrade paths have not been specified in the official overview.
Enemies
Named threats include Bolivar Trask’s Reavers and Omega Red. Their presence places Logan in conflict with both anti-mutant forces and major figures from Wolverine’s wider history. The official descriptions do not publish a complete enemy roster, boss list, or encounter breakdown.
The story: Logan returns to Team X
The central premise begins three years after Logan left his team. He believed he had left Wolverine behind, but returns to Team X when Bolivar Trask starts kidnapping mutants. That decision pulls him back into a conflict involving his past, his responsibilities, and the survival of other mutants.
Recommended Free Tools
The story is original to the game. Officially named characters include Jean Grey, Sabretooth, and Bolivar Trask, alongside Logan and Team X. Their inclusion signals a story that connects Logan’s personal history with a broader mutant crisis, but the published synopsis does not reveal the ending or the full sequence of betrayals and alliances. Avoid treating unannounced plot details as confirmed.
Where the campaign goes
- Canada: The Canadian wilderness is one of the major settings and fits the isolated, survival-oriented side of Logan’s story.
- Tokyo and Japan: The journey reaches Tokyo’s streets and other Japanese locations, bringing a dense urban environment into the campaign.
- Madripoor: The island nation adds a separate international setting with its own criminal and political flavor.
The route across these locations supports a globe-spanning adventure without changing the game’s classification. PlayStation still describes the title as a narrative-driven action-adventure rather than an open-world game.

The themes behind the plot
The official story framing focuses on Logan’s identity, loyalty, humanity, resilience, and forgotten past. Those themes matter because Wolverine’s healing factor and claws are only part of the character; the conflict also asks what remains of Logan after years of violence, isolation, and attempts to escape his own history.
“When we set off to make Marvel’s Wolverine, our goal was to create an authentic and compelling Wolverine experience that delivers a new, unique story while remaining true to iconic characters.”

Is Marvel’s Wolverine open world?
No. PlayStation’s FAQ explicitly says Marvel’s Wolverine is not set in an open world. That means you should not expect a single seamless map designed around unrestricted exploration, open-world side-activity checklists, or the usual map-marker structure of a sandbox game.
The confirmed format is a focused, single-player narrative adventure. You can still expect different environments, combat spaces, stealth opportunities, and story-driven movement through Canada, Japan, and Madripoor; “not open world” describes how those areas are organized, not a lack of visual variety.
PS5 and PS5 Pro availability
The official platform listing covers PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro. The game is not listed for PS4 or any other console, and the current official information does not announce a PC or Xbox version. If you do not own a PS5-family console, there is no confirmed alternative platform to select.
PS5 Pro ownership does not create a separate game or campaign. It is part of the same PS5 release family; check the current PlayStation listing for any system-specific rendering or display options before purchase, because the durable product information establishes compatibility rather than a complete performance specification.
Standard versus Digital Deluxe Edition
PlayStation lists Standard and Digital Deluxe editions. Both contain the same core game. The Digital Deluxe package adds cosmetic items and Technique Points, so the choice is primarily about whether you want extra customization and an earlier ability boost rather than a different story or a separate mode.
| Edition | Included content identified by PlayStation | What changes in play |
|---|---|---|
| Standard Edition | The base game | The complete single-player campaign and core systems |
| Digital Deluxe Edition | Base game, five suits, five claw appearances, and three Technique Points | Suits and claws are cosmetic; Technique Points provide additional progression currency |
PlayStation’s June announcement describes the five suits and five claw designs as cosmetic. They change Logan’s appearance, not his combat capability. Prices, promotions, and stock can change by region, so verify the live store page for your account’s currency before buying.

Accessibility and difficulty options
The game includes a broad set of controls for difficulty, comfort, vision, hearing, and input. PlayStation’s accessibility information identifies the following categories:
- Adjustable difficulty and gameplay assists.
- Visual-comfort controls, including options for text size and color.
- Audio settings and subtitle controls.
- Motion-comfort settings.
- Simplified quick-time events.
- Input accommodations that reduce or remove rapid button presses and simultaneous button presses.
- Options to play without controller vibration or adaptive-trigger effects.
These settings matter during both combat and cinematic sequences. In particular, the Store listing states that the game can be played without rapid presses, simultaneous presses, vibration, or adaptive-trigger effects. The live accessibility page is the authoritative place to check the complete, current list and the exact menu names.
Do you need to read the prequel comic?
No requirement to read the prequel comic has been announced. PlayStation Blog introduced a digital prequel comic written by Insomniac narrative director Walt Williams, illustrated by Luke Ross, and covered by Iban Coello. It sets up Logan’s difficult relationship with Team X and was made available through Marvel Unlimited.
The comic can provide extra context for the team dynamic before you begin, but the game is presented as a complete original story. Treat it as optional background rather than required homework.
What to expect before you buy
Choose it if you want a focused Marvel campaign
The strongest fit is a player who wants a solo Wolverine story with cinematic locations, named Marvel characters, close-quarters combat, stealth options, and adjustable abilities. The game’s structure favors following Logan’s narrative rather than managing a persistent online character or sharing a campaign with other players.
Do not buy it for multiplayer or open-world exploration
PlayStation identifies the game as single-player and not open world. There is no confirmed multiplayer mode, shared-world feature, or open-world sandbox to justify buying it for those purposes.
Pick the edition based on cosmetics and progression extras
The Digital Deluxe Edition is relevant if five additional suits, five claw appearances, and three Technique Points matter to you. Since the suits and claw designs are cosmetic, the Standard Edition remains the straightforward choice if you only want the campaign and the base progression system.
What is confirmed—and what is not
The confirmed information covers the release date, PS5-family platform, single-player format, non-open-world structure, original premise, major settings, named characters, combat pillars, edition contents, and accessibility categories. Official materials do not establish a campaign length, review consensus, sales figures, PC launch, Xbox launch, detailed performance targets, complete enemy list, or ending. Those details should not be assumed from the premise or from other Wolverine adaptations.
On the information currently available, Marvel’s Wolverine is a PS5-only, story-led action-adventure that puts Logan’s claws, stealth, senses, and Rage system at the center of an original journey through Canada, Tokyo, and Madripoor. Its deliberate non-open-world structure and extensive control options make the edition and accessibility choices more important than chasing unsupported platform or performance rumors.
