Marvell stock is a way to invest in a semiconductor supplier whose recent growth is increasingly tied to data-center demand, especially AI infrastructure; the same focus makes customer spending, concentration, and execution central risks.
What Marvell does
Marvell Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: MRVL) designs and sells semiconductor solutions for data infrastructure, from data-center systems to network-edge applications. Its products include integrated circuits built with system-on-chip architectures and analog, mixed-signal, and digital signal-processing capabilities. The company reports its end markets as data center and communications and other.

Marvell is fabless: it designs products but relies on outside partners for manufacturing, assembly, testing, and packaging. That model avoids owning the manufacturing facilities needed to make its chips, but leaves the company exposed to the capacity, costs, and delivery performance of its suppliers.
What the latest reported results show
For the quarter ended August 1, 2026, Marvell reported Q2 fiscal 2027 revenue of $2.739 billion, up 37% year over year. The company attributed the increase primarily to a 46% rise in data-center sales, which it said benefited from strong AI-related demand. The figures below are company-reported results from Marvell’s August 27, 2026 earnings release.
#1 Best Overall
| Q2 fiscal 2027 measure | Reported figure | How to read it |
|---|---|---|
| Revenue | $2.739 billion; up 37% year over year | Reported for the quarter ended August 1, 2026. |
| Data-center share of revenue | 79% | Quarterly mix; not the fiscal 2026 mix. |
| Communications and other share of revenue | 21% | Quarterly mix. |
| GAAP gross margin | 53.1% | GAAP measure. |
| Non-GAAP gross margin | 58.9% | Non-GAAP measure; not directly interchangeable with GAAP. |
| GAAP diluted EPS | $0.33 | GAAP earnings per diluted share. |
| Non-GAAP diluted EPS | $0.94 | Non-GAAP earnings per diluted share; not directly interchangeable with GAAP. |
The gap between the GAAP and non-GAAP margin and earnings figures is a reason to keep the two sets of measures distinct when reviewing results over time. Non-GAAP figures use the company’s adjustments, so investors should consult its release for the definitions and reconciliations rather than treating the measures as equivalent.
For a different period, Marvell’s 2026 proxy statement reported that data center made up approximately three-quarters of fiscal 2026 revenue and generated more than $6 billion for that year. That historical annual mix is not the same measurement as the quarterly share above.
What may drive growth—and what to monitor
Management’s growth case centers on demand for data-center infrastructure, including AI-related systems. Marvell has described custom silicon and optical interconnect as important parts of its data-center opportunity. Those are company characterizations of its strategic position, not a guarantee that demand or market share will continue to grow.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesIn the August 27, 2026 earnings release, Chairman and CEO Matt Murphy said, “AI-related bookings remain exceptionally robust, and we expect our revenue growth to accelerate further through the remainder of fiscal 2027.” This is management’s outlook. It should be read alongside the risks below, not as a reported result or assurance of future performance.
Marvell’s Q3 fiscal 2027 revenue guidance, issued August 27, 2026, was $3.150 billion, plus or minus 5%. Guidance is a forward-looking estimate, not an achieved result; investors can compare it with the subsequently reported quarter to assess how closely actual revenue matched the outlook.
Useful indicators to follow in later filings and earnings releases include:
- Data-center revenue growth and its share of total revenue.
- Customer concentration and any material changes in orders from major customers.
- Gross-margin trends alongside changes in product mix and costs.
- Customer design wins, as well as signs that customers are developing more chips internally.
- Whether reported results meet or exceed management’s guidance.
Risks that could affect Marvell stock
Customer concentration
Marvell’s 2026 Form 10-Q said its ten largest customers, including distributors and direct customers, accounted for 82% of fiscal 2026 revenue; two customers each represented at least 10%. Losing a large customer, receiving smaller orders, or facing a major customer’s financial or market difficulties could materially affect sales. A concentrated customer base can also make quarterly results sensitive to a small number of purchasing decisions.

Marvell says demand depends in part on the timing and scale of customers’ AI infrastructure deployments. Projects can be delayed by supply constraints or by practical requirements such as power, water, permits, and local approval. The company also warns that AI-related capital expenditure may not be sustainable and that customers could reduce or redirect spending. If investment slows, is postponed, or shifts toward different technologies, demand for relevant products could weaken.
Customer insourcing and fast-changing technology
Large cloud providers and other enterprises may design more chips themselves, reducing their need for external suppliers. Marvell also identifies AI-assisted design as a force that could speed competitors, change product economics, or shorten product life cycles. The possibility of continued AI investment does not by itself establish that Marvell will retain a particular customer or product opportunity.
Manufacturing and supply-chain dependence
Because Marvell depends on external partners, constraints in advanced wafers, substrates, testing, or other components can lengthen lead times, raise costs, or limit shipments. This risk matters even when customer demand is strong: a company cannot convert orders into revenue on schedule if required manufacturing capacity or components are unavailable.
Competition, pricing, and execution
Marvell’s filings describe intense competition, rapid technological change, and pricing pressure. New products must be developed and introduced on time and accepted by customers. Delays, weaker-than-expected adoption, or unfavorable product mix and costs can weigh on revenue or margins even when the broader market is growing.
How to assess MRVL without confusing the business with the stock price
Operating growth and investment returns are different questions. The company’s reported revenue, margins, and customer mix help explain its business, but do not alone establish whether MRVL is attractively priced. A valuation judgment needs a dated share price and explicit assumptions about future growth, margins, cash flows, and risk; no fair value or appropriate entry price is established here.
For a comparison with another semiconductor company, useful dimensions include the share of revenue tied to data center and AI, customer concentration, growth and margin trends, product mix, exposure to customer-designed silicon, and reliance on external manufacturing. Comparing only headline growth rates can obscure material differences in risk and business mix.
