First confirm that the Game Trial is actually listed for your PlayStation account and region. Then check the claiming account and license, and only after that troubleshoot the download queue, storage, network, PSN service, and console software. A PS Plus subscription cannot create an offer that is not listed for your account.
Start by identifying the failure stage
These symptoms look similar but have different causes. Use the row that matches what you see:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
| What you see | Most likely stage | First action |
|---|---|---|
| No Game Trial option on the Store page | Offer availability or account/region eligibility | Open the listing while signed in to the intended account and verify the local Store page |
| The trial is shown but has a padlock or asks you to buy it | Account or entitlement recognition | Check the claiming account and restore licenses |
| The download button does nothing | Queue, storage, or service problem | Pause/resume the queue entry, then check free storage and PSN status |
| The download remains at the same percentage | Network, PSN service, or corrupted queue data | Test the connection, retry the queue, and remove and re-add the download if necessary |
| The game starts but online modes fail | Online-service or subscription requirement | Confirm internet access and an active PlayStation Plus account |
Do not buy the full game, a separate add-on, or a second subscription as a diagnostic step. Those purchases do not make an unlisted trial appear and can make it harder to determine which account owns the entitlement.

1. Confirm that the Game Trial is offered to your account
Check the live Store listing
- On the PS5, open the PlayStation Store and search for MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls.
- Make sure the profile currently signed in is the account that is supposed to use the trial.
- Open the game’s main product page and look for a clearly labeled Game Trial option, rather than a normal purchase, demo, or add-on.
- Read the eligibility, subscription, region, and time-limit terms shown on that page. Record the exact wording if you need support later.
The official game FAQ confirms that PlayStation Plus and an internet connection are required for online gameplay and other online features, but it does not establish that a Game Trial is available in every country, which subscription tier qualifies, or how long a trial lasts. Those details can vary by Store account and offer. The local listing is the authority for your account; if no Game Trial option appears there, troubleshooting the PS5 cannot manufacture one.
Do not infer availability from a post, video, or another player’s Store page. Two accounts on the same console can see different offers, and a different country Store can display different products or terms. Check the account and region that will actually launch the game. If the page shows only a purchase button, treat that as “no visible trial offer” and move to PlayStation Support for an eligibility answer rather than repeatedly reinstalling.
Also avoid confusing the trial with the separate MARVEL Tōkon PS Plus Pack. The U.S. Store describes that item as downloadable add-on content and says a copy of the game is required. Seeing the Pack does not prove that your account has a Game Trial entitlement. An add-on listing can remain visible even when the base game or trial is unavailable.
2. Fix a locked or missing trial entitlement
Use the account that claimed the offer
PlayStation entitlements belong to the account that selected or claimed them. Sign out of any guest or alternate profile and return to the account whose Store page showed the trial. If several family members use the console, check each profile rather than assuming that one person’s Plus subscription or purchase transfers the trial to everyone.
Before restoring anything, note exactly what happened: whether you pressed a claim button, whether a confirmation appeared, and whether the item ever appeared in Game Library. A page view is not the same as a claim. If the trial was never added to the account, a license refresh has nothing to recover.
Restore licenses on PS5
When the correct account is signed in but the game is locked or absent from the library, restore its licenses:
- Open Settings.
- Select Users and Accounts.
- Choose Other.
- Select Restore Licenses, then confirm.
- After the process completes, return to Game Library and check the title again.
PlayStation lists license restoration as a remedy for locked games and content that cannot be found. It refreshes recognition of an entitlement already associated with the account; it does not grant a trial that the Store never offered, change your account’s region, or override an expired promotion. The official instructions are available in PlayStation’s license-restoration guide.

One-click scans. No signup required.
Restore licenses once after confirming the account, then test the listing again. Repeating the same operation will not alter offer eligibility. If another account on the console sees the trial and yours does not, the difference is likely account or regional eligibility rather than local PS5 data.

A PS4 or PS5 console with a wired connection via a LAN cable is recommended. Version 4.0 of the Remote Play App on iOS and iPadOS or version 4.1 on macOS is required for games to be playable with the controller over Bluetooth.
Check for an account or purchase mismatch
- Compare the profile shown in the Store with the profile that initiated the download.
- Look in the account’s transaction or services history for evidence that the trial was actually claimed, rather than merely viewed.
- If the Store page shows only a purchase price, do not assume a previous selection created an entitlement.
- Do not treat ownership of the PS Plus Pack as ownership of the base game or its trial.
- Check that you are looking at the full game page, not an add-on page or a similarly named product.
If the offer is visible for another account but not yours, that is an eligibility or account issue, not a damaged download. Contact PlayStation Support with the account details rather than repeatedly reinstalling the game.
3. Restart a download that will not begin
Pause and resume the queue entry
Open Downloads/Uploads from the PS5 control center. Select the MARVEL Tōkon item, choose Pause, wait briefly, and select Resume. A transient queue or server response can clear without changing the entitlement.
Watch whether the status changes from queued to downloading. If it changes, let the transfer run instead of launching several duplicate requests. Multiple entries make it harder to tell which file belongs to the valid entitlement.

Cancel the failed queue item and add it again
If resume has no effect, cancel and delete the incomplete download from the queue. Then open Game Library, find the trial or game entry under the account that claimed it, and select Download again. This removes a stale queue record; it does not remove a valid Store license.
If the Download button is still missing after the queue item is removed, stop and return to the entitlement checks. A missing button at this point is not evidence that the network is slow; it can mean the account no longer has a recognized offer.
Check free storage before retrying
Verify that the console has enough free space for the download and its installation overhead. A queue can appear idle or fail near completion when storage is insufficient. Remove or move unused games only after confirming which content you are deleting, then retry from the library.
Check storage before starting another attempt, not after a second partial transfer has accumulated. If space is borderline, leave additional room for installation rather than relying on the exact displayed download size. The goal is to eliminate a capacity failure without deleting the trial entitlement itself.

4. Troubleshoot a download that is stuck
Check PlayStation service status first
Open PlayStation’s service-status page from the support guidance and look for an alert affecting Store, game, or download services. If there is an active incident, leave the queue intact and try again after service recovery. Repeated cancellation during an outage can create more partial files without fixing the underlying problem.
A service alert changes the correct action: wait for recovery instead of changing the account, buying another copy, or performing a reset. If no alert is shown, continue with the local connection and software checks below.
Test the PS5 connection
- Go to Settings.
- Select Network.
- Open Connection Status.
- Run Test Internet Connection.
A failed test points to the console’s connection rather than the trial entitlement. Resolve the local network problem, reconnect the PS5, and retry the download. If the test succeeds but the transfer remains frozen, compare the behavior with PlayStation’s service status and try the queue restart described above.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsDo not use a successful connection test as proof that the trial is valid. It only shows that the PS5 can test its network path; Store eligibility and account licensing remain separate checks. Likewise, a failed transfer does not prove that the offer expired.
Update PS5 system software
Confirm that the console is running current system software before using deeper repair tools. Store and download failures can persist when system components are out of date. Install any available update, restart the PS5, and check the queue again.
5. Use Safe Mode only after the simpler checks
If the account is correct, the trial is listed, licenses have been restored, storage is available, the connection test passes, and PlayStation reports no outage, the local download database may need repair. PlayStation’s troubleshooting flow points to Safe Mode actions as later steps, not as the first response to a missing offer.
- Turn off the PS5 completely, not merely into Rest Mode.
- Press and hold the power button until you hear the second beep to enter Safe Mode, then connect the controller with a USB cable.
- Choose the cache-clearing option first if it is offered for the problem.
- If the download still fails, return to Safe Mode and use Rebuild Database.
- Restart normally and retry the download from Game Library.
Read the on-screen warnings before selecting any reset or reinstall option. Cache clearing and database rebuilding are different from restoring a license: they repair local system data and cannot change Store eligibility. Do not choose a factory reset simply because a trial is absent from the Store.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Safe Mode is therefore a local repair step, not an account fix. If the Store does not list the Game Trial before you enter Safe Mode, stop at the offer check. If it is listed and the entitlement is confirmed but the queue repeatedly breaks, Safe Mode becomes reasonable after the less disruptive steps.

6. If the game launches but online play does not
The official MARVEL Tōkon FAQ separates offline and online access. Its listed offline content includes Episode Mode, local Versus, Training Mode, All-Star Arena, Battle Guides, Character Guides, and Arcadia Rumble; those modes can be accessed without a PlayStation Plus account. Online gameplay and other online features on PS5 require both an internet connection and PlayStation Plus.
Therefore, a working trial download does not by itself prove that online matches will start. Check that the PS5 is connected, the relevant PlayStation account has an active Plus subscription, and no service outage is reported. Conversely, a Plus subscription is not evidence that a Game Trial offer should be present: Plus is an online-play requirement here, while the trial is a separate Store entitlement.
Use an offline mode as a useful diagnostic only after the game has installed. If Training Mode or local Versus opens, the installation is functioning even if online matchmaking is unavailable. If every mode fails to launch, return to the installation and license steps rather than treating it as an online subscription problem.
7. Know when to contact support
PlayStation Support: account, Store, and installation problems
Use PlayStation Support when the trial is absent for the account that should be eligible, a claimed item remains locked after license restoration, or the installation fails after the queue, storage, network, software, and Safe Mode checks. The official MARVEL Tōkon support page says PlayStation Support handles account, purchase, and installation matters: MARVEL Tōkon PlayStation support FAQ.
MARVEL Tōkon Support: game bugs and patch issues
Contact the game’s support team for a reproducible gameplay bug, crash, or patch-specific problem after the title has installed. The game FAQ also advises checking its official X and Discord announcements during unexpected server downtime. An outage announcement can explain failed online features without changing your account’s trial entitlement.
Include evidence that shortens the diagnosis
- The PSN account and country/region selected for the Store (do not send your password).
- The exact Store label you see: Game Trial, purchase, Pack, locked item, or no listing.
- Any error code and the complete on-screen wording.
- The date and time, including time zone, when you attempted to claim or download.
- The exact steps that reproduce the failure.
- A screenshot or short video showing the Store page, lock icon, or stalled queue, with personal payment details hidden.
- Whether license restoration, queue cancellation, connection testing, system updating, or Safe Mode repair changed the behavior.
This information lets support distinguish an offer-eligibility question from a license lookup or a failed transfer. Keep the original error wording; paraphrasing can hide whether the problem is access, installation, or an online service.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Optional: buying the full game is not a repair
If you decide to continue after a trial, the official FAQ confirms that a physical PS5 Standard Edition exists and can be upgraded through the PlayStation Store. Treat that as a separate purchase decision. Buying the game will not fix a missing trial, unlock an account that was never eligible, or repair a stalled download; resolve the original Store or installation problem first.
The same rule applies to the PS Plus Pack. It is downloadable add-on content that requires a copy of the game, so it should not be used as a substitute for the base-game trial. Confirm the product name and entitlement type before paying for anything.

Quick decision path
- Not listed: verify the signed-in account and regional Store terms. If there is no Game Trial option, contact PlayStation about eligibility rather than restoring licenses repeatedly.
- Listed but locked: use the account that claimed it, check transaction or services history, and run Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses.
- Download will not start: pause/resume, then cancel the queue entry and download again from Game Library; check storage.
- Download is stuck: check PlayStation status, test Settings > Network > Connection Status, update system software, and retry.
- Still broken: use Safe Mode cache/database repairs, then escalate with the error code and evidence.
- Only online play fails: verify internet access and Plus; remember that the listed offline modes do not require Plus.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why is the MARVEL Tōkon Game Trial not showing on my PS5?
Open the game’s full PlayStation Store page while signed in to the account that should use the offer. If no Game Trial option appears, the offer may not be available for that account or region. A PS Plus subscription and license restoration cannot create an offer that the local Store does not list.
Why is the MARVEL Tōkon trial locked after I claimed it?
Confirm that the PS5 is using the same account that selected the offer, check the account’s transaction or services history, and restore licenses at Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses. Restoration refreshes an existing entitlement; it does not extend an expired offer or change regional eligibility.
What should I do when the trial download is stuck?
Pause and resume the item in Downloads/Uploads. If it remains stuck, cancel and delete the queue entry, then download it again from Game Library. Check free storage, PlayStation service status, the PS5 connection test, and system software before using Safe Mode cache or database repairs.
Is the MARVEL Tōkon PS Plus Pack the same as the Game Trial?
No. The U.S. Store lists the PS Plus Pack as downloadable add-on content and says a copy of the game is required. It is separate from a Game Trial entitlement and does not prove that the trial is available.
Do I need PS Plus to play MARVEL Tōkon offline?
The official game FAQ lists Episode Mode, local Versus, Training Mode, All-Star Arena, Battle Guides, Character Guides, and Arcadia Rumble as offline content that can be accessed without Plus. Online gameplay and other online PS5 features require an internet connection and PlayStation Plus.
When should I contact PlayStation instead of game support?
Contact PlayStation for account, Store, entitlement, purchase, or installation issues. Contact MARVEL Tōkon support for a reproducible gameplay bug or patch issue after installation. Include the error code, exact steps, timestamp and time zone, Store label, and a screenshot or video with payment details hidden.
The Bottom Line
First verify that the Game Trial is listed for your own PSN account and regional Store. If it is listed but locked, check the claiming account and restore licenses. For transfer failures, restart the queue, check storage, PSN status, network, and system software, then use Safe Mode only if needed. PS Plus is required for online features, not the game’s listed offline modes, and the separate PS Plus Pack is not a trial.
