Platforms, storefronts, and release timing
PlayStation 5 and PC are the supported platforms
The game is officially listed for PS5 and PC. The February announcement identified Steam and the Epic Games Store as PC storefronts and preorder locations. No PlayStation 4, Xbox, or Nintendo version is established by the cited official materials, so those platforms should not be assumed from the game’s Marvel license or its PC release.

PlayStation gives August 6, 2026 as the general release date. Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and Korea are listed for August 7. Digital storefront timing can still vary by local midnight-release policy, so check the store page for the account region you use if the game does not unlock at the same moment as another territory.

What PC players need for online play
The official FAQ says PC online play requires creating a PlayStation Account and linking it to the game. That requirement is specifically stated for online play on PC. It should not be expanded into a claim that an account link is required for every offline activity; the cited material does not impose that condition on local Versus, Training, or other offline functions.
The available FAQ excerpts also do not settle every current subscription or platform-service requirement. Before purchasing, check the live Steam, Epic, or PlayStation listing for any account, network, or subscription wording that applies in your country.
Launch roster versus open-beta roster
Twenty characters are promised at launch
PlayStation’s official FAQ states that 20 playable characters are available at launch. That is the authoritative count to use when describing the released game. The available materials do not provide a complete, authoritative named list of all 20 launch fighters, so a full roster list should not be reconstructed from trailers, leaks, or the beta selection.
The beta had 15 playable characters
The official open-beta guide, published July 16, 2026, described 15 playable characters. It specifically included Blade among the available fighters. Those 15 were a beta selection used for the July test and are not the complete launch roster. A difference between 15 in the beta and 20 at launch therefore reflects scope, not a contradiction.

Named Unbreakable X-Men members
The February announcement identifies the Unbreakable X-Men as Storm, Magik, Wolverine, and Danger. It presents them as part of the game’s character offering, but the cited announcement does not by itself establish whether every one of those names belongs to the initial 20, a later release, or a particular story presentation. Treat the group identification as confirmed and avoid assigning each member to a launch or post-launch slot without a roster statement.
What is known about future additions
The Year 1 Characters & Stage Pass is announced to add four playable characters and one stage after launch. The cited sources do not give a complete named list or a release-by-release chronology for those additions. They establish the planned quantity, not the current availability of every character or stage. Store descriptions can change as content is released, so verify an individual character’s status before treating it as playable today.
Modes and how each one fits
Episode Mode
Episode Mode is the narrative component. The February announcement describes a collaboration with Marvel Games that uses motion-comic storytelling, combining American comics and Japanese manga influences. Producer Takeshi Yamanaka described the story as “a new form of storytelling adapted for a modern video game format.” The presentation is built around manga illustrations by celebrated artists rather than conventional cutscenes alone.
The announcement also says Episode Mode has full voice acting in 10 languages: English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Latin American Spanish, Japanese, Korean, and Mandarin. On PS5, it uses DualSense controller features and supports spatial audio through PS5 Tempest 3D AudioTech. A compatible DualSense controller is therefore a feature-enhancing option, not an announced requirement or an extra purchase needed to run the mode.

- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.
- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
During the open beta, players could access the first three chapters of Episode Mode. Those three chapters describe the beta build’s available story content; they should not be presented as the complete campaign length for the finished game.
Casual and Ranked online matches
The beta guide documents both Casual and Ranked online matches. Casual is the lower-pressure queue for playing without the competitive presentation implied by a ranking ladder. Ranked is the mode for players who want results tracked within the game’s competitive system. The guide confirms that both modes existed in the beta, but it does not specify the final ranking rules, divisions, penalties, matchmaking formula, or season schedule.
Open Lobby
Open Lobby is a shared online space listed in the beta guide. It is separate from simply selecting a one-off Casual or Ranked match and is intended for meeting other players and arranging fights in the lobby environment. The cited guide confirms the mode’s presence but does not define the final lobby population limit, spectator tools, privacy controls, or moderation settings.

Local Versus
Local Versus lets you fight a friend on the same setup or face a CPU opponent. This is the clearest option for offline head-to-head play when you do not want to use online matchmaking. The beta guide confirms the friend-and-CPU choices; it does not specify whether every launch character, stage, or rule customization is available immediately in this mode.

Training Mode
Training Mode is included in the beta documentation for practicing attacks, movement, combinations, and match situations without the pressure of a live opponent. The guide does not publish a complete command-list format, recording controls, frame-data display, or dummy-behavior options. Those detailed practice tools should be checked in the final game rather than inferred from the mode name.
Start-Up Battle
Start-Up Battle is another mode named in the beta guide. Its inclusion signals a dedicated way to begin playing, but the cited material does not spell out its exact rules, progression, or whether it functions as a tutorial, an introductory series, or a structured set of matches. Use the in-game description for the final implementation.

The official guide described a 72-hour open beta running July 24–26, 2026, on PS5, Steam, and the Epic Games Store. It covered the 15-character beta selection and the modes listed above. Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Melaine Brou wrote that no registration was required: players could download the beta from their platform store and begin playing.
That no-registration statement applied to the open beta. It does not override the full game’s PC online requirement for a linked PlayStation Account. Nor does the beta’s temporary availability establish that the same test, roster, or access conditions continue after July 26.

Editions and announced contents
Three editions were announced: Standard, Digital Deluxe, and Ultimate. The US prices below were announcement-time MSRP figures from February 2026, not verified current prices. Regional taxes, currency conversion, discounts, and later store changes can produce different totals.
| Edition | Announcement-time US MSRP | Announced contents | Platforms confirmed by the FAQ |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard | $59.99 | Full game. | Platform availability was announced; the cited FAQ specifically confirms Digital Deluxe and Ultimate on PS5 and PC. |
| Digital Deluxe | $84.99 | Full game, preorder incentives, Year 1 Characters & Stage Pass, Howard the Duck lobby avatar, and Cosmo lobby pet. | PS5 and PC. |
| Ultimate | $99.99 | Deluxe contents plus additional cosmetic items and costumes. | PS5 and PC. |
The PlayStation FAQ confirms that Digital Deluxe and Ultimate each include the Year 1 Character and Stage Pass. The announcement describes the pass as four additional playable characters and one new stage. It does not establish that every pass item is available on day one; the wording describes post-launch releases.
Choosing an edition
- Choose Standard if you want the base game and prefer to decide about add-on characters or stages later.
- Choose Digital Deluxe if you already expect to play the Year 1 additions and value the listed lobby avatar and pet.
- Choose Ultimate if the extra cosmetics and costumes matter to you; its gameplay entitlement is the Deluxe package plus cosmetic content.
Because the prices above are historical US MSRP figures, use the live store listing for your country to compare today’s price, preorder status, upgrade rules, and whether a pass is sold separately.

The official FAQ lists 16 text languages: English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Latin American Spanish, Japanese, Korean, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Arabic, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, and Thai. The February announcement lists 10 full voice languages: English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Latin American Spanish, Japanese, Korean, and Mandarin.
Those lists are not interchangeable. A language can be supported for menus and subtitles without being one of the fully voiced options, and Mandarin is named among the voice languages while Simplified and Traditional Chinese are named among the text languages. Select the language format you need in the store or game settings rather than assuming text and voice coverage match.
What remains unconfirmed
- The complete named list of all 20 launch characters is not supplied by the cited official FAQ.
- A full post-launch character-by-character release calendar is not established.
- The current release status of every Year 1 pass item is not established by the announcement alone.
- Final Ranked rules, rating structure, matchmaking details, and Open Lobby limits are not specified in the beta guide.
- Current prices, discounts, stock, and regional subscription terms can change and must be checked on the live store page.
These limits matter when comparing screenshots, trailers, beta coverage, and the finished product. A beta feature list is useful evidence that a mode existed in testing, but it is not a complete specification of the launch build.
Quick Recap
Practical buying and setup checklist
- Confirm that your target platform is PS5 or PC and that your store region uses the applicable August 6 or August 7 release date.
- On PC, create or sign in to a PlayStation Account and link it to the game before attempting online play.
- Compare the live edition pages, not the February announcement MSRP, if you are deciding between Standard, Digital Deluxe, and Ultimate.
- Check whether the Year 1 Characters & Stage Pass is included in the edition you select and which announced items are already released.
- If you mainly want local play, verify controller availability and local Versus options; the cited materials do not require an additional DualSense controller.
- Review the text and voice-language lists separately if accessibility or localization is a deciding factor.
