MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls is available on PlayStation 5 and Windows PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store. PS5 and PC players can play together through confirmed cross-play. Online matches require an internet connection plus PlayStation Plus on PS5, or an internet connection and a PlayStation account on PC. A substantial set of single-player and local modes works offline.
The launch roster contains 20 playable characters. The game uses four-character teams, but only the first two fighters selected are available when a match begins; the other two become available after specific break conditions or when a player loses a round. The following guide explains the release timing, platforms, online rules, offline content, system requirements, editions, accessibility features and roster in practical terms.

When could players start MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls?
The official online server start was August 6, 2026, at 3:00 PM UTC. The same launch moment was listed as 8:00 PM PST on August 6 and 12:00 AM JST on August 7. Because the date crosses the International Date Line, the PlayStation product information lists August 7 for New Zealand, Australia, Japan and Korea. Check the time conversion for your own region rather than relying on a single calendar date.

Which platforms support the game?
| Platform | How to buy or access it | Online requirement | Cross-play |
|---|---|---|---|
| PlayStation 5 | Digital purchase or physical Standard Edition | Internet connection and PlayStation Plus for online play | Plays with PC users |
| Windows PC | Steam or Epic Games Store | Internet connection and a PlayStation account for online play | Plays with PS5 users |
PlayStation’s product information confirms cross-play between PS5 and PC. That confirmation covers playing matches across those two platforms; it does not establish cross-progression, shared purchases, or synchronization of every account feature. Treat those as separate questions unless a future update explicitly confirms them.
On PS5, compatible arcade sticks and leverless controllers are supported. The available information does not endorse a particular model, so check the controller manufacturer’s PS5 compatibility information before purchasing hardware.
What does online play require?
PS5 requirements
- A working internet connection.
- An active PlayStation Plus subscription for online modes.
- A PlayStation account to use the console’s network services.
PC requirements
- A working internet connection.
- A PlayStation account for online play.
- A PC that meets at least the listed Windows 11 and hardware requirements.
The official online feature set includes Online Lobby, Room Matches (private rooms), Ranked Matches, Casual Matches and player profiles. The PlayStation product page describes an online lobby that can hold up to 64 players. Lobby selection can span regions, although the number of people a lobby can accommodate limits availability.

Cross-play makes PS5-versus-PC matches possible, but it does not remove platform-specific requirements. A PS5 owner still needs PlayStation Plus, while a PC player still needs a PlayStation account and a qualifying internet connection.

What can be played offline?
You do not need to stay connected for the core solo and local experience. The official FAQ identifies these offline options:
- Episode Mode: the story-focused mode. Producer Takeshi Yamanaka of Arc System Works described it as blending American comics and Japanese manga into a new storytelling form adapted for a modern video game.
- Local Versus: matches against another person on the same system.
- Training Mode: practice attacks, movement, assists and team sequencing without entering an online match.
- All-Star Arena: an offline challenge option.
- Battle Guides: instruction for understanding the game’s systems.
- Character Guides: character-specific learning material.
Arcadia Rumble is also playable offline. It has optional online features, so some connected functions may not be available when the system is disconnected, but its basic play does not require an online session.
Online-only features include the Online Lobby, private Room Matches, Ranked Matches, Casual Matches and player profiles. If a network outage interrupts a session, switch to Training, Episode Mode or Local Versus while the service is unavailable.

The official launch list contains 20 playable characters. Every name below is part of the initial roster rather than a later confirmed addition.

The list mixes Avengers, X-Men, street-level heroes, cosmic characters and villains. The roster count is a launch figure; it should not be read as a guarantee that no additional characters will be released later.
How does the four-character team system work?
You select four characters for a team, but a match does not expose all four immediately. At the start, only the first two selected characters are available. This is intentional rather than a loading error or a missing character selection.
How the remaining teammates unlock
The other two characters become available when you meet one of the game’s qualifying conditions:
- Trigger a break with qualifying attacks or throws.
- Land a successful light-route Link Attack near the edge of the stage.
- Lose a round.
The rule creates a staged team-management decision. Your opening pair determines the tools you can use immediately, while the later pair functions as additional options once the match reaches a break or round-loss state. If you expected all four fighters to be selectable from the first second, the first-two restriction explains the discrepancy.

Practical team-selection advice
- Place the two characters you most need for your opening plan in slots one and two.
- Use Training Mode to learn which attacks and throws qualify for a break and how close to the stage edge a Link Attack must be.
- Keep the third and fourth characters in mind as recovery or matchup options rather than assuming they are available at round start.
- In a local or online match, remember that losing a round changes team access, so your next round may offer options that were unavailable at the beginning of the previous one.
What PC hardware is required?
The official FAQ lists Windows 11 for both minimum and recommended configurations. Both configurations require 16 GB of RAM, while the processor and graphics-card targets differ.
| Component | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 11 | Windows 11 |
| Processor | Intel Core i5-8400 or AMD Ryzen 5 1600X | Intel Core i7-8700 or AMD Ryzen 5 3600X |
| Memory | 16 GB RAM | 16 GB RAM |
| Graphics | NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 6 GB or AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT 8 GB | NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 8 GB or AMD Radeon RX 7600 XT 16 GB |
These are published targets, not a performance guarantee for every resolution, frame-rate setting or background workload. The FAQ warns that systems below minimum specifications may encounter performance, graphics or other technical limitations. A PC that only meets the minimum should be evaluated against the game’s actual display settings and your desired frame rate before purchase.

Accessibility and language support
The official FAQ lists text-to-speech support in all 17 supported languages. It also lists compatibility with the PS5 Access Controller, allowing players who use that adaptive hardware to configure a supported control setup. Confirm the exact language and control options in the current game build, because regional releases and updates can affect available settings.
Common setup and troubleshooting questions
Why can’t I find the third and fourth characters during the opening exchange?
That is the team rule. Only the first two selected characters are available at match start. Trigger a qualifying break, perform the specified edge Link Attack, or lose a round to unlock the rest.
Can a PC player join a PS5 friend?
Yes. PS5-PC cross-play is confirmed. The PC player still needs an internet connection and a PlayStation account, while the PS5 player needs an internet connection and PlayStation Plus.
Can I play the story without internet?
Yes. Episode Mode is listed among the offline modes. Local Versus, Training Mode, All-Star Arena and the Battle and Character Guides are also available offline.
Does every mode work fully offline?
No. Online Lobby, Room Matches, Ranked Matches, Casual Matches and player profiles require online service. Arcadia Rumble can be played offline, but its optional connected features will not operate without a network connection.
What should I check if online play is unavailable?
- Confirm that your console or PC is connected to the internet.
- On PS5, verify that PlayStation Plus is active.
- On PC, sign in to the required PlayStation account.
- Check that the game and platform software are updated.
- If the service itself is unavailable, use the offline modes and try again later.
Bottom line for prospective players
MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls is a PS5-and-PC fighting game with confirmed cross-play, a 20-character launch roster and a four-character team system that reveals fighters in stages. Choose PS5 if you want the physical Standard Edition or console play with supported arcade and leverless controllers; choose PC through Steam or the Epic Games Store if your Windows 11 system meets the published hardware targets. Either platform offers offline content, but online competition has different account and subscription requirements.
