Removing a mod does not always restore the original Marvel Rivals installation. A loader, injected DLL, altered asset, or anti-cheat-related .asi file can remain behind, while a partially removed mod can leave official files missing or changed. The reliable recovery path is to close every launcher and mod process, delete residual mod components, verify the game through your platform, then check Windows, drivers, security software, and overlays. If the clean installation still will not start, run the official diagnostic utility and send its ZIP to support.
Why Marvel Rivals can stop launching after a mod is removed
A mod may change more than the visible skin or texture you intended to install. Mod packages commonly include a loader, an injected library, replacement game assets, configuration files, and a startup hook. Deleting the obvious mod folder can therefore leave behind components that load before Marvel Rivals does. Conversely, deleting files that the game still expects can create a missing-file or corrupted-file failure.

NetEase’s October 15, 2026 notice specifically warns players to remove violating .asi files, naming pystubber.asi and MarvelRivalsUnmountBlocker.asi, along with related game-content modifications. Treat those names as examples of files to remove if they are present, not as files to download or replace.

Steam describes corruption in extracted game files as a common reason a game will not launch. Verification is useful because it compares your local installation with the platform’s manifest and downloads missing or changed official files. It cannot, however, reliably remove every third-party loader or file stored outside the files covered by that manifest. Cleanup and verification are separate steps.

Use this repair order first
Follow the sequence below rather than repeatedly clicking Play. Each step removes a different class of failure, and the order avoids testing a still-modified installation.
1. Close the game, launchers, and mod tools completely
- Exit Marvel Rivals.
- Quit Steam, Epic Games Launcher, or Loading Bay, depending on where you installed the game. Use the launcher’s Exit command rather than only closing its window.
- Close any mod manager, injector, texture tool, overlay configuration utility, or script host used with Marvel Rivals.
- Open Windows Task Manager with
Ctrl+Shift+Esc. On the Processes tab, end a remaining Marvel Rivals process or a clearly related mod/injector process. Do not terminate random Windows services. - Restart Windows before attempting the first clean launch. A restart releases DLLs that may still be loaded and is part of Steam’s launch-failure guidance.
Do not launch the game between cleanup steps. Testing before the restart can leave a loader active and make the result difficult to interpret.
2. Remove every residual mod component
Open the Marvel Rivals installation directory. If you do not know its location, use your launcher’s game-management command to open or browse the installation folder. Look for files and folders added by the mod, including its loader, injected DLLs, replacement assets, scripts, and configuration files. Remove only components that belong to the mod or injector; do not delete the entire game directory at this stage.
Pay particular attention to the violating files named in NetEase’s notice: pystubber.asi and MarvelRivalsUnmountBlocker.asi. Also remove other .asi files and related game-content modifications that you installed for Marvel Rivals. If a mod’s instructions created a separate loader directory, remove that directory too.

- Check the game’s main folder and any mod-specific subfolder.
- Remove injected DLLs, loader executables, and scripts installed by the mod.
- Undo custom texture, skin, or asset replacements that are not part of the official installation.
- Empty the Recycle Bin only after confirming that the files you removed are third-party components; keeping a temporary backup elsewhere can help if you need to identify what changed.
Never download a replacement loader, an anti-cheat bypass, or a supposed “clean” .asi file as a repair. NetEase says some modifications use memory injection or behavior similar to cheat engines, which can trigger anti-cheat detection and penalties. A bypass is not a supported troubleshooting step and can create a separate account or eligibility problem.
3. Verify the game files on your platform
After residual files are removed, use the launcher’s integrity check. Verification restores official files that are missing or corrupted after mod removal; it does not make an unsupported mod safe.

Verification can take time and may use substantial bandwidth. Do not interrupt it, move the installation folder, or start the game while files are being replaced. If the launcher reports that files were repaired, restart Windows once more and try a normal launch with no mod manager or injector running.

Install pending Windows updates
Open Settings > Windows Update, install available updates, and restart when Windows requests it. A pending update can affect game services, graphics components, or security dependencies. If Windows reports that a restart is required, complete it before testing Marvel Rivals again.

Update the graphics driver from the GPU manufacturer
Install the current driver for your NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel graphics hardware using the manufacturer’s official update channel. Select the correct desktop or laptop model, follow the installer’s clean or standard option as appropriate, and reboot afterward. Avoid driver packs from unofficial download sites. If the problem began immediately after a driver update, use Windows’ supported rollback option or the manufacturer’s previous stable driver rather than adding another mod or injector.
Disable non-essential overlays and background software
Temporarily turn off overlays and capture, monitoring, tuning, RGB, chat, or macro utilities that hook into games. This includes any overlay enabled by your launcher, graphics driver, recording software, or hardware utility. Close them fully, including their tray processes, then test Marvel Rivals. Re-enable one program at a time after the game launches normally so you can identify a conflict.
Do not permanently disable security protections just to force a launch. The purpose of this step is to remove non-essential hooks while diagnosing the problem, not to weaken the computer.

If the launcher reports a missing executable, or verification repeatedly downloads the same file, open your antivirus or Windows Security quarantine history. Steam identifies antivirus quarantine, corruption, and failed downloads as possible causes of a missing executable.

- Confirm that the alert refers to the official Marvel Rivals installation and not to a mod loader or injected component.
- Restore a quarantined official file only when you trust the detection context and the file is from the official installation.
- After restoring an official file, run the platform verification again.
- If the security product continues to remove the same official file, consult its vendor’s documented false-positive procedure instead of downloading a replacement executable from a third-party site.
Do not restore .asi loaders, bypass tools, or unknown DLLs merely because doing so makes the launcher progress further. NetEase’s warning applies to violating modifications even when they appear to fix a startup symptom.
Remove custom textures and other file-changing tools, then verify again
If you used a skin changer, custom texture package, reshader-style injector, or another file-modifying utility, uninstall or remove it according to its own instructions. Steam’s troubleshooting guidance recommends removing custom modifications, restarting, and verifying the game files. Run verification again after the removal because the first check may have occurred while altered content was still present.

Loading Bay’s official FAQ notes that a complete deletion and reinstall of Marvel Rivals and Loading Bay files may be necessary when the launcher’s installation path is broken. Reserve this for cases in which cleanup, verification, Windows and driver updates, and overlay checks have failed, or when Loading Bay cannot complete its own integrity check.

- Uninstall Marvel Rivals through Loading Bay and remove the remaining official game and launcher files that the FAQ identifies as part of the broken installation.
- Restart Windows.
- Download Loading Bay and Marvel Rivals again through the official distribution path, choose a writable installation location with sufficient free space, and allow the installation to complete without interruption.
- Launch once with no mod manager, injector, overlay, or custom asset tool active.
A reinstall is not the first choice when only a few files are damaged: platform verification is faster and preserves the existing installation. Use the full reinstall when the launcher path itself is inconsistent or verification cannot finish.
Run the official diagnostic utility before contacting support
If Marvel Rivals still closes, fails to create a window, or reports an unexplained launch error after a clean verification, collect diagnostics while the game is closed.
- Close Marvel Rivals and every launcher window.
- Open the Marvel Rivals installation directory.
- Run
client_diagnose.exe. - Click Analyze and wait for the utility to finish.
- Locate the generated archive named in the pattern
diagnose_yyyy_mm_dd_xx_xx_xx.zip. - Send that ZIP to Marvel Rivals support using the official support route. Steam lists
[email protected]as the support email.
Include the platform you use (Steam, Epic, or Loading Bay), the exact point of failure, the date the problem began, whether the game ever reached the main menu after mod removal, and whether verification replaced files. State that you removed third-party modifications and list any named .asi files you found. Do not attach unrelated personal files or another launcher’s logs unless support requests them.

What not to do
- Do not reinstall a mod to see whether it “fixes” the launch problem.
- Do not use an anti-cheat bypass, memory injector, or replacement
.asifile. - Do not download a missing executable or DLL from a file-sharing site.
- Do not repeatedly verify while a mod manager is still restoring altered files.
- Do not delete the whole game folder before trying the platform’s verification option, unless the launcher installation path is itself broken.
- Do not assume that a successful launch proves a modification is permitted; NetEase warns that violating modifications can trigger anti-cheat action and penalties.
Preventing the same failure after repair
Keep the repaired installation unmodified until you have confirmed that Marvel Rivals launches, reaches the main menu, and can enter a match. If you later experiment with unsupported files, record exactly what was added and keep a clean backup of configuration files outside the game directory. That makes rollback possible without guessing which DLL, asset, or loader caused a failure.
For a supported installation, use the launcher’s own update process, leave enough free disk space for temporary downloads, and do not interrupt verification or patching. If a future update causes a launch issue, repeat the clean sequence—close everything, remove third-party components, verify, restart—before collecting diagnostics.
Bottom line
Start with cleanup, not another mod: close every related process, remove residual loaders and altered content—including the violating .asi files NetEase names—restart Windows, and verify Marvel Rivals through Steam, Epic, or Loading Bay. Then check updates, drivers, overlays, and antivirus quarantine. If a clean, verified installation still will not launch, run client_diagnose.exe and send the generated ZIP with precise failure details to support. This approach restores official files without adding an anti-cheat risk.
