NetEase’s October 15, 2026 notice specifically identifies those categories and names pystubber.asi and MarvelRivalsUnmountBlocker.asi as files whose operations directly trigger anti-cheat detection. A suspension lifted by NetEase is not permission to keep using the mod.
What NetEase’s current mod rule means
NetEase’s public position is broader than “cheats are banned.” Its October 15, 2026 announcement says modifications are prohibited when they disrupt game balance or grant an unfair competitive advantage. The notice focuses on mods that change the way a player sees, hears, aims at, or fights opponents, even if the file is described by its creator as a cosmetic replacement.

The practical test is not where you downloaded a file or whether it changes only one asset. Ask what the modification does to the running client and whether it can affect a match. Memory injection, altered rendering, changed sound cues, removed visual effects, reduced recoil, and enlarged enemy models all fall on the risky side of that test.
NetEase also announced that suspensions issued during the preceding two days for the listed mod types were lifted. That was a case-specific remedy, not a policy change: the same notice says continued use remains punishable and instructs affected players to stop using and permanently delete violating mods and related changes.

Changes explicitly identified as suspension risks
Memory injection and runtime client changes
A mod that injects code into the game process or changes the client while it is running presents the clearest anti-cheat risk. NetEase states that pystubber.asi and MarvelRivalsUnmountBlocker.asi execute operations that directly trigger the anti-cheat system’s detection for unauthorized client modifications. Their file names are therefore not merely examples of a general concern; they are specifically named detection triggers in the October 15 notice.
Any loader, injector, or plugin that must attach to the game process should be treated as unsafe to run with Marvel Rivals, regardless of whether its advertised result is a skin, interface adjustment, animation swap, or convenience feature.
Visibility and line-of-sight changes
Structural or texture changes can become competitive modifications when they create asymmetric line of sight. Removing a wall texture, making an object transparent, changing a map element so an opponent is easier to see, or otherwise revealing information that other players do not receive changes the information available during combat.
Recoil, effects, and combat presentation
NetEase lists removing recoil and removing visual effects among the prohibited risk categories. A file that changes weapon kick, muzzle flashes, hit effects, smoke, or other combat feedback can make aiming or tracking easier, reduce distractions, or hide information that normally communicates an attack.

Audio and target-size changes
Changing footsteps or other audio can provide earlier or clearer positional information than the standard client. Enlarging enemy models changes target acquisition and is likewise identified as a prohibited type of modification. These changes may look like accessibility or presentation tweaks, but their effect in a competitive match is what matters under the published rule.
Other software and hardware on the official prohibited list
NetEase’s February 26, 2025 prohibited-software list extends beyond conventional visual mods. It says use of the listed tools while Marvel Rivals is running may force the game to exit and can lead to additional punishment depending on severity.

The list is not limited to files installed in the game directory. A separate program, adapter, script, or virtual machine can still be relevant if it is active while the client is running.
Are Marvel Rivals skin mods bannable?
There is no published safe-harbor rule saying that every “cosmetic-only” skin mod is allowed. A replacement that changes only what you see may still modify client assets, require an injector, alter model dimensions, affect animations, or create an advantage through visibility. NetEase’s October notice evaluates the modification’s operation and competitive effect rather than the marketing label used by its author.

Because NetEase has not published a whitelist of approved skin files, “cosmetic-only” is not a guarantee against detection or discipline. The conservative choice is to use the unmodified client for every online session.
Can a config file or .ini tweak cause a suspension?
Yes. The February 26, 2025 prohibited list specifically includes modifications to graphics-rendering .ini files. That language matters because a configuration edit does not need to look like a traditional mod or executable to fall within the rule.
Risk rises when an edit changes brightness, effects, foliage, shaders, field-of-view behavior, contrast, or any other setting in a way that reveals targets or removes information. Even an edit that seems harmless can be difficult to distinguish from a competitive rendering tweak once the client starts.

Do not rely on a launch parameter that merely hides an anti-cheat message: NetEase’s May 25, 2026 zero-tolerance notice says the anti-cheat starts concurrently with the game client and cannot be disabled independently. A parameter that suppresses a pop-up does not deactivate it.

Is a mod-hosting page evidence that a mod is safe?
No. A hosting platform’s moderation or approval process does not equal NetEase authorization. The platform’s own policy says that the existence of a mod page does not mean its contents are approved or compliant. Treat the page as a distribution or discovery location, not as a safety certification.
Downloading from a well-known page also does not answer the important questions: whether the file injects memory, whether it changes rendering, whether an associated loader remains active, and whether it is used during a match. Those technical and competitive characteristics determine the risk under NetEase’s notices.

If you have experimented with modifications, clean the system before starting the client. The goal is to remove both the visible mod and the mechanism that loads or supports it.

- Close Marvel Rivals and its launcher. Do not delete or replace files while the game or anti-cheat process is active.
- Uninstall or remove mod loaders and injectors. Look for loaders, DLL or
.asiplugins, and tools that attach to the game process, includingpystubber.asiandMarvelRivalsUnmountBlocker.asi. - Restore original game files. Use the launcher’s built-in file verification or repair function where available, rather than copying modified assets back from a third-party archive.
- Revert graphics configuration. Restore edited rendering
.inifiles and undo custom launch options that were added for a visual modification. - Stop prohibited companion software. Exit macros, emulation scripts, process-inspection tools, overlays, listed plugins, and hardware-adapter utilities before starting the game.
- Remove virtual-machine use for the session. The prohibited list names VMware, KVM, and VirtualBox; launch the supported native client environment instead.
- Restart the computer. A restart helps ensure that an injector, script, or overlay is no longer resident in memory.
- Test with the unmodified client. If the game still exits or reports a violation, document the exact message and the software that was active rather than repeatedly relaunching with the same tools.
Do not use a cleanup utility as a substitute for restoring the original installation and removing the software that introduced the modification. If you cannot identify what changed, a clean reinstall from the official game distribution is the most definitive reset.
What happens if a suspension is lifted?
NetEase’s October 15 notice is explicit that lifting the recent suspensions does not permit the mods or their modifications. The affected players were told to stop using them and permanently delete the violating files and related changes. In other words, the lifted action resolves that particular enforcement decision; it does not create an exception for future sessions.
There is no authoritative mod-specific suspension rate or player-count statistic in the published notices. A few reported reversals therefore cannot be used to estimate the probability of enforcement or to justify continued use.
How to appeal a Marvel Rivals mod ban
If you believe the action was mistaken or that special circumstances were involved, NetEase directs players to its official Customer Support channel. An appeal should be factual and specific:
- Include the account identifier and the date and time of the action.
- Quote the exact in-game or launcher message, if one was shown.
- List the software, plugins, scripts, adapters, virtual machines, and configuration changes that were active.
- State what you removed and whether you restored or reinstalled the original client.
- Attach relevant logs or screenshots only through the support system’s permitted upload process.
Do not claim that a mod was safe solely because it was labeled cosmetic or hosted on a moderated page. Explain what it did, how it loaded, and what changed after removal so support can assess the case against the published rules.
Competitive and tournament play has stricter consequences
The Marvel Rivals Ignite 2026 rules prohibit “any use of unauthorized config, ini, mod, or macro files in any form.” Tournament enforcement is therefore stricter than an ordinary public match and does not depend on proving that the file produced a measurable advantage.
Listed sanctions include a match loss, stage suspension, permanent player ban, and permanent team ban. The organizer may skip penalty tiers for serious violations. Anyone competing should use only the tournament-approved client and settings, with no third-party files or input tools present.
A practical decision test for any proposed modification
Before running a file, evaluate it in this order:
- Runtime access: Does it inject memory, load a plugin, attach to the process, or alter the client while it runs?
- Competitive effect: Does it change visibility, target size, aim, recoil, effects, footsteps, or other information?
- Listed mechanism: Is it an
.asi, modified rendering.ini, macro, script, adapter, process-inspection tool, plugin, or virtual-machine setup named by NetEase? - Fairness: Could another player be denied the same information or control because they are using the standard client?
- Event rules: Will it be present in an official tournament where any unauthorized config, mod, or macro is a violation?
If any answer is yes, or if you cannot determine the answer, do not launch Marvel Rivals with the modification installed or active. The public rules provide no general exception for files described as cosmetic, accessibility-focused, or harmless by their creators.
