For competitive play, turn on NVIDIA Reflex or AMD Anti-Lag 2, disable V-Sync and frame generation, and cap the frame rate a few frames below your monitor’s refresh rate. This combination removes the most expensive lighting and blur effects while preserving the detail that helps you read enemies and abilities.

| Setting | Recommended value | Reason and trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Display mode | Fullscreen | Prioritizes a direct presentation path and makes refresh-rate behavior easier to control. |
| Resolution | Native display resolution | Preserves text and geometry detail; reduce internal resolution through an upscaler before dropping the output resolution. |
| Anti-Aliasing/Super Resolution | DLSS, FSR or XeSS matched to your GPU, Quality mode | Quality mode lowers render cost while retaining more detail than Balanced or Performance. |
| Global Illumination | SSGI Low | The largest performance lever in the menu. Lowering Lumen-style illumination usually recovers the most frame time with a manageable visual change. |
| Reflection Quality | Screen Space or Off | Reflections add GPU cost but little competitive information. |
| Low Latency | NVIDIA Reflex On + Boost, or AMD Anti-Lag 2 | Reduces the queue between input and displayed frames on supported hardware. |
| V-Sync | Off for competitive play | Avoids the additional input delay associated with synchronizing presentation to the display. |
| Frame Generation | Off for ranked and competitive matches | Generated frames can increase latency even when the FPS counter is higher. |
| FPS limit | A few frames below refresh rate, such as 141 FPS on a 144 Hz display | Leaves headroom for steadier frame times and reduces refresh-rate collisions. |
| Model Detail | Low to Medium | Reduces geometry and scene complexity without making the image look as soft as aggressive upscaling. |
| Post-Processing | Low | Removes costly and distracting screen effects. |
| Effects | Low | Reduces particle and ability-effect overhead, improving visual readability in busy fights. |
| Foliage | Low | Limits animated vegetation and scene clutter. |
| Shadows | Low, not Off | Keeps enemy shadows as useful positional cues while reducing shadow-map cost. |
| Textures | Medium; High with at least 8 GB VRAM | Texture quality mainly consumes VRAM. On cards with 6 GB or less, lower it if traversal stutter appears. |
| Motion Blur | Off | Prevents camera movement from smearing targets. |
| Depth of Field | Off | Keeps foreground and background combat elements sharp. |
Why Global Illumination is the first setting to lower
Marvel Rivals uses Unreal Engine 5 lighting, exposed in the menu through Global Illumination and Reflection Quality. The Season 10 graphics guidance identifies this lighting stack as the most expensive part of the settings menu. High-quality Lumen illumination calculates indirect light and scene bounce across changing environments, which can consume substantial GPU time even when other options are already low.
Choose SSGI Low before cutting resolution
Set Global Illumination to SSGI Low first. It preserves basic ambient shading and contact depth while avoiding the cost of the highest-quality lighting modes. If frame rate remains unstable, test SSGI Off. Off gives up more indirect-light detail, but it is often preferable to making the entire image blurry with an aggressive upscaling mode.

Use Screen Space or Off reflections
Reflection Quality affects shiny floors, water, glass and other reflective surfaces. Screen Space reflections are a reasonable visual compromise for players who still want some surface response. Off is the competitive choice when every frame matters; reflections rarely help identify an opponent, and their cost rises in scenes with many reflective materials.
DLSS, FSR, XeSS or TAAU: choosing the right reconstruction mode
Upscaling is the main image-quality-versus-performance control. The game renders internally at a lower resolution and reconstructs the selected output resolution, so you can keep a sharp native display mode while reducing GPU work.
Start with the upscaler matched to your GPU
- DLSS: use it on supported NVIDIA graphics cards.
- FSR: use it on AMD graphics cards and as a broadly compatible option where supported.
- XeSS: use it on Intel graphics hardware when available.
Begin with Quality mode. It generally retains more fine detail and edge stability than Balanced or Performance while still reducing the internal render cost. Compare thin railings, character outlines, distant signage and moving effects rather than judging only a static wall.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesWhen Balanced or Performance makes sense
Move to Balanced only after SSGI and reflections are reduced and the GPU is still the limiting component. Performance mode is a last resort for hardware near the official minimum, high-resolution displays or laptops that cannot sustain the target frame rate. It can make distant geometry, hair and particle edges look softer or shimmer during movement.

- AMD FreeSync reduces choppiness, screen lag and image tearing, ensuring that your fast-paced, complex in-game action is stable with minimal stutter
- Ergonomic stand allows for tilt, pivot and height adjustments to maximize gaming comfort
When to use TAAU 100%
TAAU at 100% is the option for a system with ample GPU headroom that prioritizes native-resolution detail over maximum FPS. It avoids the additional reconstruction step, but its render cost is higher. If TAAU 100% causes uneven frame times, return to the matched upscaler in Quality mode rather than lowering the monitor’s output resolution immediately.
Competitive latency settings that do not make the image blurry
Enable the vendor low-latency option
With a supported NVIDIA card, select NVIDIA Reflex On + Boost. On supported AMD hardware, select AMD Anti-Lag 2. These options target the render queue, so they complement rather than replace a stable frame-rate cap.
Disable V-Sync and frame generation for ranked play
Turn V-Sync off when the priority is the fastest input response. Frame generation can raise the displayed FPS, but generated frames do not represent additional player input and can add latency. Keep it off for ranked or other timing-sensitive matches. Casual players on weaker hardware can experiment with it after achieving a stable base frame rate, but should judge control response rather than the counter alone.

Cap FPS below the refresh rate
Set the in-game limit a few frames below the display’s maximum refresh. A 144 Hz panel, for example, can use a 141 FPS cap. The small margin helps prevent the renderer from repeatedly hitting the refresh ceiling, producing more consistent frame times and leaving room for short effects bursts.

Keep the image readable in team fights
Why shadows should be Low, not Off
Shadows are more than decoration. A visible enemy shadow can reveal a character around a corner or indicate movement when effects obscure the model. Low quality preserves that cue at a much lower cost than higher shadow settings. Turning shadows off may remove useful information in exchange for a comparatively small performance gain.
Remove blur and excess post effects
Set Motion Blur and Depth of Field to Off. Motion blur smears targets during a quick turn, while depth of field intentionally softens parts of the scene. Low Post-Processing, Effects and Foliage also reduces flashes, particles and animated clutter that can hide a character during an ultimate or multi-player fight.
Balance model detail and textures
Model Detail at Low or Medium reduces geometry complexity without the broad softness caused by a low internal resolution. Textures behave differently: they consume video memory more than shader time. High textures are reasonable with at least 8 GB of VRAM. On a 6 GB card or less, use Medium and lower it further if you see hitching while entering a new area, rotating the camera quickly or loading a crowded objective.
Official high- and low-resolution resource packs
NetEase announced on May 7, 2026 that Marvel Rivals supports selectable high- and low-resolution resource packs. The high-resolution pack is delivered as downloadable content and can improve surface and character fidelity. The low-resolution pack uses less installation space, but NetEase cautions that visual fidelity may be reduced in some cases. This is an official asset choice, not a modification.

NetEase’s official PC requirements specify Windows 10 64-bit version 1909 or newer, DirectX 12 and 70 GB of storage. Minimum and recommended graphics hardware are listed below.
| Component | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| Processor | Intel Core i5-6600K or AMD Ryzen 5 1600X | Intel Core i5-10400 or AMD Ryzen 5 5600X |
| Memory | 16 GB RAM | 16 GB RAM |
| Graphics | NVIDIA GTX 1060, AMD RX 580 or Intel Arc A380 | NVIDIA RTX 2060 Super, AMD RX 5700 XT or Intel Arc A750 |
| API and storage | DirectX 12; 70 GB | DirectX 12; 70 GB |
These tiers do not guarantee a particular FPS because resolution, map activity, background software and driver state all change the result. A system close to the minimum should use SSGI Low or Off, Screen Space or Off reflections, Quality or Performance upscaling and Medium or Low textures. A recommended-tier system has more room for TAAU 100%, higher textures or a higher frame-rate target, but should still retain low-latency settings for competitive play.

Fixing stutter before lowering every setting
Stutter is not always caused by a single quality slider. Use this order so you do not sacrifice image quality unnecessarily.
- Install the latest graphics driver using the driver’s clean-install option. A clean installation removes conflicting profiles and old components that can interfere with shader compilation or frame pacing.
- In Windows, open Settings > System > Display > Graphics. Add or select Marvel Rivals, choose Options, select High performance, and save.
- Confirm the game is installed on an SSD and that the drive has free space for updates and shader caches.
- Lower Global Illumination to SSGI Low, then test. If frame pacing is still poor, try SSGI Off before changing the output resolution.
- Reduce texture quality if the hitch occurs while moving through the map or when new effects load. That pattern often indicates VRAM pressure rather than a pure shader-cost problem.
- Use the in-game limiter a few frames below refresh and close overlays or background captures that compete for CPU, GPU or memory time.
Change one option per test and repeat the same route or practice-range sequence. Because there is no authoritative percentage table that applies to every PC, a controlled comparison is more useful than copying a claimed FPS number from another system.
PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Pro and Xbox Series X at 120 FPS
PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Pro and Xbox Series X support a stable 120 FPS mode when connected to a display that supports HDMI 2.1 and a 120 Hz refresh rate. Enable 120 Hz output in the console’s system settings, restart Marvel Rivals, then open the game’s Graphics Settings and select HFR Mode.
