Short answer: In the best available Season 10 snapshot, Peni Parker is the leading Vanguard, Magik is the strongest high-volume Duelist starting point, and Mantis or Ultron are the leading Strategist choices. Storm also led the Duelist table by win rate, while Rocket Raccoon had the highest Strategist pick rate among the leaders. These are not confirmed post-patch tier-list results: the figures were captured on October 5, 2026, before the major Version 20261009 update took effect on October 9.
This guide was checked on October 13, 2026. Use the role recommendations as a dated baseline, then account for the current patch, your team’s objective, player proficiency, and the Team-Up loadout available to each hero. No six-character lineup is proven to be universally best across every map, rank, queue type, and skill group.

The best starting picks by role
The table below uses the Season 10 all-rank results reported by itsesports from CounterWatch data checked on October 5, 2026. The update that went live on October 9 is not represented, so these numbers should be read as a pre-patch reference rather than a live performance guarantee.

These figures are useful for deciding whom to practice, not for automatically locking a hero. A low pick rate can describe a specialist, a coordinated duo, or a niche strategy rather than a generally superior character. Conversely, a higher pick rate gives a result more exposure across ordinary matches but does not prove that the hero is easier or stronger in every situation.

Why the October 9 patch changes how you should read the list
The official Version 20261009 balance post was dated October 6 and became effective October 9. Because the ranking dataset was captured four days earlier, the percentages above cannot establish post-update performance.
The patch touched potential choices in all three roles:
- Vanguards: Devil Dinosaur’s base health fell from 850 to 825. Hulk also received changes involving Banner’s projectile speed, Gamma energy and the Wolverine Team-Up.
- Duelists: Gorr and Scarlet Witch were toned down. Cyclops, Hawkeye, Iron Man and Phoenix received adjustments.
- Strategists: Adam Warlock’s Ultron Team-Up healing and Jubilee’s kit were adjusted, and Gambit’s charge time changed.
The complete patch notes should be your final check before describing a hero’s ability interactions in detail. A hero that ranked well before a balance change may retain its place, fall, or become more valuable in a particular composition; the available figures do not answer that question yet.
Best Vanguard: Peni Parker as the pre-patch statistical leader
Why Peni is the baseline choice
Peni Parker recorded a 57.3% win rate with an 8% pick rate in the all-rank Season 10 snapshot. That made her the source’s highest Vanguard by reported win rate. The combination is substantial enough to make her a sensible practice target while still leaving room for your own comfort and the match’s objective.
Use Peni as the lineup’s Vanguard starting point when your team needs a durable front-line presence and the player taking the role already understands how to create space and stay involved. The statistic does not say that every player should choose Peni, nor does it identify a particular map or mode where she is mandatory.
Other Vanguard candidates
Devil Dinosaur, Angela, Thor, Hulk and The Hood were listed in the same article’s A tier. Devil Dinosaur needs an especially cautious interpretation because the October 9 patch reduced base health from 850 to 825. That is a direct change to a number used in the pre-patch environment, so the old ranking should not be presented as current proof of strength.
Hulk is another example of why composition matters more than a tier label. The patch changed Banner’s projectile speed, Gamma energy and the Wolverine Team-Up. If your planned lineup depends on one of those interactions, inspect the current in-game description and patch notes instead of assuming the Season 10 snapshot still applies unchanged.

How to choose among Vanguards
- Start with Peni when you want the strongest reported pre-patch baseline.
- Choose a different A-tier Vanguard when the player is substantially more practiced on that hero or when the objective requires a different initiation or space-making approach.
- Reassess Devil Dinosaur and Hulk after accounting for their October 9 changes.
- Do not select two Vanguards merely to reproduce a ranking table; add the second only when the lineup has a clear job for that extra front-line presence.
Best Duelist: Magik for volume, Storm for the highest reported rate
Storm leads the snapshot by win rate
Storm’s reported win rate was 56.6% with a 4% pick rate, the highest Duelist result in the cited Season 10 table. The relatively small pick rate means the number may be more sensitive to who selected her and how coordinated those players were. Treat Storm as a high-upside candidate to practice, not as a universal replacement for the rest of the damage roster.
Rank #2

Magik is the more representative starting point
Magik posted a 55.4% win rate and an 11% pick rate. Her win rate was lower than Storm’s by 1.2 percentage points, but her pick rate was nearly three times as high. That makes Magik a particularly useful recommendation for players who want a strong result with more evidence from the wider all-rank population.
Magik was not listed among the heroes adjusted in the October 9 balance post, while Gorr was. That does not make Magik definitively best after the update; it simply means the cited Gorr result carries an additional patch-change qualification.
Gorr and Mister Fantastic
Gorr recorded 54.6% with an 11% pick rate, and Mister Fantastic recorded 53.4% with a 4% pick rate. Both were among the leading figures in the pre-patch comparison. Gorr was toned down in the October 9 update, so use the 54.6% figure only as historical context for the October 5 capture.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsStorm, Magik, Gorr and Mister Fantastic should be compared within the Duelist role rather than against Vanguard or Strategist percentages. Their jobs in a six-player plan are different, and a lower individual win rate can still be the right choice if it supplies the pressure or follow-up your selected Vanguard and Strategist lack.
Best Strategist: Mantis and Ultron, with Rocket as the broadest-volume option
Ultron has the highest reported rate
Ultron recorded a 56.9% win rate and a 6% pick rate in the pre-patch table. That is the highest Strategist win rate reported there. The smaller pick rate warrants the same caution applied to Storm: a result from a narrower set of players may not transfer directly to every lobby.
Mantis balances result and usage
Mantis recorded 56.5% with an 11% pick rate, only 0.4 percentage points below Ultron while appearing in substantially more matches. For many players, that combination makes Mantis the most practical first Strategist to learn from the statistical list.
Rocket Raccoon offers the most pick volume among the leaders
Rocket Raccoon posted a 53.3% win rate and a 14% pick rate. The lower win rate does not make the result irrelevant: the higher pick rate means the figure reflects a broader slice of ordinary play than Ultron’s. Choose Rocket when that player has more experience on him or when the team’s plan benefits from what Rocket contributes, rather than chasing a decimal difference in a table.

The Season 10 ranking discussion also noted that every Strategist’s ultimate-energy conversion slowed during the season. That system-wide change is another reason not to transplant an older strategy guide without checking the current game behavior.
How to build a six-character composition
Marvel Rivals is officially a fast-paced 6v6 game built around Team-Up abilities. The official site states: “Every team match relies on the active participation of every single member.” That principle is more useful than forcing a fixed list of supposedly mandatory heroes.
1. Define the job your lineup must perform
Before selecting names, identify what the objective and map demand from the team. Your lineup needs a way to initiate or contest, survive long enough to matter, apply pressure, and convert an opening into progress. Role labels provide a starting framework; they do not replace examining each hero’s actual kit and the players’ ability to use it.
2. Assign the front-line anchor
Begin with the Vanguard slot that the player can execute reliably. Peni Parker is the strongest statistical starting point in the cited snapshot, but another A-tier Vanguard may be better when the player is more practiced on that character or when the team’s plan requires a different approach. The important check is whether the chosen hero has a clear job after the initial engagement, not whether the name appears first in a tier list.

One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware match3. Add pressure that the anchor can support
Select Duelists who can capitalize on the space and attention created by the Vanguard. Magik is the most balanced statistical starting point in the cited Duelist data because her 11% pick rate accompanies a 55.4% win rate. Storm has the highest reported rate at 56.6%, while Gorr and Mister Fantastic are additional pre-patch options. Do not choose several unfamiliar Duelists simply because their percentages look attractive; a team that cannot coordinate follow-up gains little from a theoretical ranking.
4. Make the Strategist choice fit the entire plan
Ultron, Mantis and Rocket Raccoon are the leading statistical references, but their different pick rates tell you to weigh the evidence rather than declare one winner. Mantis combines a 56.5% win rate with an 11% pick rate; Rocket’s 14% pick rate gives his 53.3% result broader exposure; Ultron’s 56.9% comes from a 6% pick rate. Pick the Strategist whose player can maintain the team’s planned tempo and whose current loadout supports the rest of the lineup.
5. Check whether every selected hero has a meaningful job
Read the proposed six-character lineup from the objective backward. Can someone start the engagement? Can the team remain active after the first exchange? Is there pressure that opponents must answer, and is there a player ready to follow the opening? If one answer is missing, replace a redundant pick before worrying about a small difference in historical win rate.

How Team-Up loadouts work in the current system
The Team-Up system was reworked in July 2026 so that each hero has two selectable loadouts. The selected loadout’s base effect works without its named partner. Its enhanced effect activates only when that partner is present on the team.
This distinction changes how you should draft:
- Base effect first: Select a loadout whose standalone effect helps the hero and the team even when the named partner is absent.
- Enhanced effect second: Add the partner only when the bonus improves the overall plan and the partner is a competent choice for the match.
- No forced partner: An absent partner does not make the base loadout useless, so do not pick an unfamiliar hero solely to activate a bonus.
In-game selection procedure
- Open the hero menu before the match and inspect the two available Team-Up loadouts for every candidate.
- Read the base effect and decide whether it solves a real problem in your planned composition.
- Identify the named partner for the enhanced effect.
- Confirm that the partner’s role and player are useful for the objective, rather than treating the pairing as an automatic requirement.
- Lock the loadout that remains valuable if the partner is changed or unavailable.
- After a balance update, re-read both effects; a patch can change the value of a pairing even when the hero’s headline win rate has not been refreshed.
Pairing data: what Chain of Cyttorak and Gamma Maelstrom show
The current Season 10.5 Diamond+ RivalsTracker view observed on October 13, 2026 provides two evidence-backed examples of strong Team-Up results. These are tracker measurements, not randomized tests or proof that either combination belongs in every lineup.
| Team-Up | Rank scope | Win rate | Pick rate | Observation date |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chain of Cyttorak | Diamond+ | 59.65% | 2.93% | October 13, 2026 |
| Gamma Maelstrom | Diamond+ | 58.88% | 3.70% | October 13, 2026 |
Both combinations clear 58% win rate while appearing in roughly 3% or fewer of the tracked matches. That pattern can reflect practiced duos, specific situations or a narrow high-skill environment. It cannot be compared directly with the all-rank hero table as if both datasets described the same population: the hero figures were checked October 5 and cover all ranks, while these Team-Up figures are Diamond+ observations from October 13.
A practical drafting checklist
- Date-check the evidence: Mark the pre-patch hero percentages as October 5 results and review the October 9 balance changes before calling a pick current.
- Choose the objective job: Decide what the team lacks—an initiator, sustained presence, pressure or reliable follow-up.
- Pick familiar players first: A practiced hero is generally a more useful choice than an unfamiliar character selected only for a high historical percentage.
- Compare within role: Use Vanguard numbers to compare Vanguards, Duelist numbers to compare Duelists, and Strategist numbers to compare Strategists.
- Read win rate with pick rate: A 56.6% result at 4% pick rate and a 55.4% result at 11% pick rate answer different questions.
- Inspect the loadout: Keep the base effect useful on its own and activate the enhanced effect only when the partner fits the plan.
- Confirm rank and queue context: Do not treat Diamond+ Team-Up results as all-rank expectations, or assume coordinated play will behave like solo queue.
- Recheck after patches: Live rankings, Team-Up values and hero interactions can change faster than published guides.
Common mistakes and how to correct them
Calling a pre-patch table a current tier list
The October 5 capture predates the October 9 update. Label those figures clearly and avoid phrases such as “the current best hero” unless a post-patch dataset supports them.
Choosing a tiny-sample winner as an automatic lock
Storm’s 56.6% win rate at 4% pick rate and Ultron’s 56.9% at 6% are informative but narrower than Magik’s 11% or Rocket’s 14% pick rates. Check both metrics and your own proficiency.
Mixing rank populations
The role rankings are all-rank CounterWatch figures, while the cited Team-Up tracker is Diamond+. Keep those populations separate when evaluating a lineup.
Building around a partner instead of a useful hero
The partner-dependent enhancement is optional because the base loadout works without that partner. If the partner does not fit the objective or the player cannot use the hero, retain the better standalone loadout and choose a more coherent teammate.
Ignoring the patch’s less visible changes
Balance work affected more than headline damage values. Devil Dinosaur’s health, Hulk’s Banner and Gamma interactions, Adam Warlock’s Ultron Team-Up healing, Jubilee’s kit and Gambit’s charge time all received changes in the October 9 update. Read the complete official notes before relying on an old interaction.
What to monitor before your next ranked session
For a genuinely current recommendation, check three things immediately before playing: the latest official balance post, the hero’s in-game Team-Up loadout text, and the tracker’s rank-filtered win and pick rates. Record the observation date and rank scope whenever you compare numbers. A recommendation that says “Peni is best” without those qualifications hides the most important context in a frequently updated 6v6 game.
The defensible conclusion as of October 13, 2026 is therefore narrower: Peni Parker, Magik, and Mantis or Ultron are strong statistical starting points from the available Season 10 snapshot; Storm is the highest-rate Duelist in that pre-patch table; and Chain of Cyttorak and Gamma Maelstrom are promising Diamond+ Team-Up examples. Your final six should be the lineup that covers the objective’s jobs, uses players’ practiced heroes, and gains a real benefit from its selected loadouts.
