It is a poor fit if those benefits would go unused or duplicate perks you already have. The key is to count the benefits you would actually use—not their headline limits.
What the card costs and earns
Marriott Bonvoy lists a $650 annual fee for the Brilliant card. American Express lists these earning rates:

- 6 Marriott Bonvoy points per dollar at participating Marriott Bonvoy hotels.
- 3 points per dollar at restaurants worldwide and on flights booked directly with airlines.
- 2 points per dollar on other eligible purchases.
These are card earning rates, not a guaranteed cash return. The official materials reviewed do not establish a universal dollar value for Marriott points, and redemption value depends on how and when you use them. After the card’s renewal month, the account receives one Free Night Award each year. It can be used at a participating Marriott Bonvoy property with an award redemption level of up to 85,000 points. Under the terms, you may use or purchase up to 25,000 additional points to top up the award. It cannot be combined with cash, and resort fees or incidental charges may still apply.

The 85,000-point ceiling is not a promise of a free night at any hotel or on any date. Check award availability for the property and dates you want, then account for any remaining fees. The award’s practical value is the cost of a stay you would otherwise book, not automatically the highest possible points price. American Express explains the Free Night Award terms.
Which ongoing benefits can offset the fee?
Up to $300 in dining credits
American Express offers up to $300 in statement credits per calendar year for eligible restaurant purchases worldwide, capped at $25 per month. To receive the full annual amount, you need eligible charges in each month; do not assume an unused monthly allowance rolls over. Count only spending you would have made anyway at eligible restaurants.

Platinum Elite status and Elite Night Credits
The card includes complimentary Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite status and 25 Elite Night Credits per calendar year, subject to account limitations. Platinum status may be valuable if you stay with Marriott often enough to use its benefits, but its value depends on your travel and what you actually receive on your stays. The 25 credits are not exclusive to Amex-issued cards, so account for credits or status you already receive elsewhere.
Priority Pass lounge access
Enrollment is required. American Express describes unlimited visits to more than 1,300 lounges in more than 130 countries. Network participation and access rules can change, so check the current Priority Pass terms and the lounge’s rules before relying on access for a trip.

- If you believe that your Card has been lost or stolen, notify Mastercard immediately by calling 1-833-791-7288. You will be asked to provide the Gift Card number and other identifying information.
- Use your Mastercard Gift Card in the U.S. everywhere Mastercard debit cards are accepted, including online. Your Amazon.com Balance cannot be used to purchase Mastercard gift cards.
Global Entry or TSA PreCheck fee credit
The card offers either a $120 Global Entry application-fee statement credit or up to $85 toward TSA PreCheck every four years when the fee is charged to the card. TSA PreCheck credits are subject to enrollment-provider requirements. This is a periodic application-fee credit, not an annual travel credit.
Conditional Ritz-Carlton and St. Regis property credit
A credit of up to $100 is available for qualifying charges on a direct booking at a special rate with a two-night minimum at eligible Ritz-Carlton or St. Regis properties. Because it depends on the booking channel, rate and stay length, it is not useful to every cardholder and should not be counted as guaranteed savings.

What the $60,000 spending award adds
Cardmembers who make $60,000 in eligible purchases in a calendar year may select one Brilliant Earned Choice Award. American Express lists these choices: five Nightly Upgrade Awards, one Free Night Award worth up to 85,000 points, or a 50,000-point deposit. The threshold is substantial; value this benefit only if your ordinary eligible spending would reach it without spending extra to trigger the award. Is the Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant worth its annual fee?
There is no universal break-even calculation: the credits and travel benefits have value only when you can use them. Assess the card against your own Marriott stays and spending:

- Dining: How many of the $25 monthly restaurant credits would cover purchases you already make?
- Free night: Is there a participating property and date you would book within the award’s 85,000-point limit, and what fees would remain?
- Status: Would Platinum Elite benefits improve stays you actually take, or do you already have comparable status?
- Travel perks: Would you use Priority Pass or an application-fee credit, or do another card or membership already cover them?
- Spending: Do the 6x, 3x and 2x earning categories suit your purchases better than the rewards on cards you already use?
Compare only benefits you can realistically use with the $650 fee. Do not assign a fixed cash value to Marriott points without a dated, well-supported valuation; the official card pages do not provide one.
What is the current welcome offer?
The Marriott offer surfaced in official materials—150,000 points plus a $250 statement credit after $6,000 in purchases within six months—ended September 30, 2026. The official sources reviewed as of October 7, 2026 did not establish a replacement Brilliant-specific offer. Check the live application terms before applying, and do not assume an expired offer remains available. Welcome-offer eligibility restrictions may also apply.
