Upgrade the best weapon you can keep equipped now, not the weapon with the cheapest level cost. Within any grade, T1 is stronger than T2, T3 and T4. Across grades, move up when the replacement is usable and you can fund its awakening and promotion. After your main weapon is secure, spend duplicates on promotion progress and collection weapons that provide inventory attack. Eternity is now the announced grade above Ancient, but NEXON’s October 15, 2026 announcement does not publish a complete Eternity multiplier table, so its exact numerical position should remain unconfirmed.
Quick tier list: the current weapon-grade order
The documented order is based on equipped attack and the weapon rules currently listed for MapleStory: Idle RPG. It is a priority for investment, not a simulated damage ranking: no independent win-rate or damage test was published with these figures.

The weapon reference lists four tiers inside every rarity. The lower the tier number, the stronger the stat effect: T1 outranks T2, T3 and T4 within the same grade. Do not read “T4” as a universal upgrade over “T1”; the grade name and the tier number are separate axes.
What “worth upgrading” means
A weapon can be valuable in three different ways. Its equipped attack affects the character using it. Its inventory attack remains active as a collection effect. Its duplicate count determines how quickly it can be awakened or promoted. A sensible tier list weighs all three rather than looking only at the color or label.

Equipped attack comes first
Weapons are the primary attack-growth route. Leveling also raises accuracy and attack speed, so a higher-grade weapon that can be leveled immediately usually improves more than its headline attack percentage alone suggests. Your first enhancers should therefore go to the weapon that will stay in the equipment slot while you farm or fight bosses.
Inventory attack is the second job for duplicates
Inventory effects are always active, even when a weapon is not equipped. The reference lists a different divisor by rank: for Legendary T4 and higher ranks, inventory attack is the equipped attack boost divided by four; lower listed ranks use a divisor of 3.5. This makes a broad collection worthwhile after the main equipped weapon is funded, particularly when you have many spare copies that are not close to a promotion.
Promotion distance can beat a small stat lead
A weapon that is already stage-5 awakened and needs only the required copies for promotion can be a better duplicate investment than a slightly stronger weapon with no awakening progress. Promotion converts five duplicate copies of a stage-5-awakened weapon into the next highest weapon tier. Count the copies still needed before spending them elsewhere.

Upgrade priority, from first enhancers to spare duplicates
Priority 1: the strongest usable equipped weapon
Keep your best practical grade equipped and level it before spreading resources across the inventory. “Usable” matters: a theoretical Ancient that cannot be awakened, promoted or leveled enough to survive your current stage may deliver less immediate progress than a well-developed Mystic or Legendary. Put Weapon Enhancers into the weapon that supports your next farming breakpoint, boss attempt or stage clear.

Priority 2: a near-promotion replacement
Once the equipped weapon is stable, inspect weapons that are one promotion step away. The efficient case is a stage-5-awakened weapon with most of its five duplicate copies already secured and a grade high enough to replace your current equipment. Finish that promotion when the resulting weapon will actually be used; do not consume the only copies of your equipped weapon merely to create a collection entry.
Priority 3: collection pieces with useful inventory attack
After the next equipped upgrade and promotion are funded, use excess copies on weapons that improve inventory attack. Favor higher-grade or higher-rank entries because the listed inventory divisor changes at Legendary T4 and above. This is a permanent account-wide style benefit, but it should not delay a replacement that gives a large equipped-attack increase.
Priority 4: temporary low-grade equipment
Level a low-grade weapon when it is the immediate wall in front of you or the only weapon available for the character. Stop pushing it when a higher-grade replacement is ready, unless the levels are still required to maintain your current farming route or boss progression. The official guide notes that game information can change with future updates, so reassess temporary investments after balance or content patches.
How leveling, awakening and promotion work
Leveling with Weapon Enhancers
Weapon Enhancers raise a weapon’s attack, accuracy and attack speed. A non-awakened weapon can reach level 100 according to the documented rules. Because the level cap is shared with the weapon’s current awakening state, spending enhancers on a weapon you will soon replace can strand resources below the next meaningful breakpoint.

Awakening with duplicate copies
Awakening consumes duplicate copies of the same weapon. There are up to five awakening stages. Each stage adds 20 levels to the cap, so a stage-5 weapon can reach level 200. The extra levels are the reason awakening progress belongs in your upgrade calculation: a lower-grade weapon at a high awakening stage may be immediately stronger than an untouched drop, even though the grade ladder still favors the higher grade in the long run.
Promotion after stage five
Promotion becomes available after stage-5 awakening. The documented requirement is five duplicate copies, which are converted into the next highest weapon tier. Before confirming, verify that the result is the grade and tier you want, that you can afford its higher enhancer costs, and that you are not removing copies needed to awaken the weapon you currently equip.
Summoning and the odds of future upgrades
Weapon Summoning accepts Weapon Summoning Tickets, Red Diamonds or an ad roll. Summoning Level increases the odds of higher tiers. Since summons are probabilistic, treat tickets and diamonds as a pipeline for future duplicates rather than a reason to stop leveling the weapon that is carrying your current account.

When two candidates compete for the same resources, score them in this order:

- Immediate equipped attack: compare the listed grade and tier, then include the levels and awakening stages you can afford now.
- Promotion distance: record how many duplicate copies remain before the five-copy requirement on a stage-5 weapon.
- Inventory contribution: estimate the always-on collection effect, applying the documented divisor for the weapon’s rank.
- Activity fit: decide whether the weapon is for stage farming, bossing or another target. A build guide recommends comparing the weapon with your job and target and keeping separate bossing and mobbing pieces when that produces better results.
- Resource cost: check the enhancer bill at the grade you will actually level, not only the purchase or summon cost.
This order prevents a common mistake: choosing a weapon solely because it has the highest color while ignoring a nearly promoted alternative that can be equipped today.
Enhancer costs and the price of moving up
Higher grades require more Weapon Enhancers. The weapon reference lists these base-cost units for T4 examples:

These are wiki-listed base costs, not a player-tested spending recommendation. Actual progression also depends on enhancer income, awakening stage, level cap and whether the weapon remains equipped long enough to repay the investment. Keep a reserve for the weapon that will replace your current one instead of exhausting every enhancer on a temporary item.

One weapon does not have to serve every activity. If a weapon’s grade and awakening make it the best general-purpose option, use it as the default. If your account has enough duplicates, maintain a second piece for a different target: one setup can be tuned for stage or mob farming while another is reserved for bosses. Compare each candidate against your job and the content you actually run, rather than assuming the same item is optimal everywhere.

Common mistakes and how to correct them
Mistake: treating T4 as better than T1
The tier number runs in the opposite direction within a grade. Recheck the label before investing: T1 has the stronger stat effect, while T4 is the weaker rank of that same grade.
Mistake: sacrificing the equipped weapon’s duplicates too early
Duplicates can be both awakening material and promotion currency. Lock the copies needed to keep your equipped weapon’s planned awakening path intact, then spend only the surplus on another weapon.
Mistake: chasing an announced Eternity value that is not published
Eternity was announced above Ancient on October 15, 2026, but the announcement did not provide a complete multiplier table. Treat it as the new top grade in availability terms, not as a confirmed percentage advantage over Ancient. Use the actual in-game stat panel or a later full table before committing scarce materials.
Mistake: leveling a low grade indefinitely
Temporary equipment is justified when it clears a stage wall. Once a higher-grade replacement is ready, redirect enhancers unless abandoning the old levels would immediately stop your farming or boss route.
Mistake: ignoring collection value
Equipped attack is the first priority, but inventory effects are always active. After your main weapon and promotion target are funded, convert excess duplicates into collection gains instead of leaving them unused.
A practical upgrade checklist
- Identify the highest-grade weapon you can equip and level today.
- Confirm its current tier; within a grade, prefer T1 over T2, T3 and T4.
- Record its level, awakening stage and duplicates reserved for the next cap increase.
- Check whether a stage-5 weapon is fewer than five copies from promotion.
- Compare the proposed replacement with the activity you are about to run: farming, stages or bosses.
- Reserve enough Weapon Enhancers for the replacement’s higher base cost.
- Only after those needs are covered, spend spare copies on inventory attack.
- Recheck Eternity data and balance changes after a full multiplier table or patch update is published.
Bottom line for each progression point
Early accounts should level the best available weapon and replace Normal, Rare or Epic gear as soon as a usable higher grade appears. Midgame accounts should build toward Legendary and Unique upgrades while counting awakening copies, not just relying on summon luck. Endgame accounts should prioritize Ancient, with Mystic and Legendary weapons retained when they are better developed or closer to promotion. Eternity is the announced grade above Ancient, but its exact multiplier remains unconfirmed; make that decision from the game’s eventual stat data rather than an assumed percentage.
