As of 6 October 2026, Apple users can buy Bee Network bus and tram tickets in Apple Wallet and use the Bee Card on an iPhone or Apple Watch at a Bee Network reader. The launch does not confirm that every fare or ticket type is available, or list compatible device and software versions.
What Bee Card in Apple Wallet does
The new option lets passengers buy bus and tram tickets directly in Apple Wallet and store them on a Bee Card. At a Bee Network reader, they can present an iPhone or Apple Watch. The launch was announced by Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) on 6 October 2026; a local report published the following day gives the operational details and quotes Transport Commissioner Vernon Everitt. TfGM’s launch listing confirms the announcement and date, while About Manchester’s report describes the Wallet feature.

This is different from using Apple Pay to buy a ticket in the Bee Network app. In that case, Apple Pay is a payment method inside the app; the new Wallet option stores a Bee Card for tapping at a reader. The app also lists Google Pay as an in-app payment method. The Bee Network App Store listing describes its selected bus, tram and multimodal tickets.

- Check that the option is available to you. Apple says Wallet travel cards depend on the card, device, software and region being supported. The exact Bee Network device and software requirements have not been specified in the launch details.
- Buy an eligible ticket in Apple Wallet. The launch says tickets can be bought directly in Wallet and stored on a Bee Card. It does not identify which individual fares, concessions or ticket types are included.
- Tap at a Bee Network reader. Present the iPhone or Apple Watch at the reader. The launch report says Bee Card can use Express Mode, which can let a passenger tap without waking or unlocking the device or opening an app.
Apple’s general travel-card guide explains the usual Wallet add-card flow, but it does not confirm the Bee-specific setup screens. If Bee Card appears as an option, follow the instructions shown on the device rather than assuming every supported travel card uses the same steps. Apple’s guide to using travel cards in Wallet notes that availability is limited by region and transport system.

Check device compatibility before relying on Wallet
Apple’s general requirements include an eligible travel card, a compatible iPhone or Apple Watch, supported software, an Apple Account signed in to iCloud, and availability for the relevant region and transport system. TfGM’s launch information does not state the specific models or software versions supported for Bee Card. Check the current Wallet options on your device and TfGM’s rider information before setting out if you need to know whether a particular device or ticket will work.
Express Mode is a way to use a supported transit card without authenticating for every tap. Apple notes that an eligible travel card may have Express Mode enabled by default, but the setting and behaviour depend on the card and operator. The launch report specifically says the Bee Card can be used with Express Mode; it does not establish that all other Wallet travel-card features behave identically for Bee Network.

Choose among Bee Network’s payment options
Wallet is one route to a valid fare, not the only way to pay. TfGM lists these options for Bee Network travel:

| Option | What it does | Useful distinction |
|---|---|---|
| Bee Card in Apple Wallet | Buy bus and tram tickets in Wallet and tap an iPhone or Apple Watch at a reader. | The specific fares and ticket types supported are not stated in the launch information. |
| Contactless tap and go | Tap a contactless card or device for bus and tram travel. | This is TfGM’s separate contactless travel option, rather than a ticket stored on a Bee Card. |
| Bee Network app | Buy and display selected bus, tram and multimodal tickets in the app. | Apple Pay and Google Pay are payment methods for in-app purchases; the ticket is shown in the app. |
| Smart card | Use a smart card for travel. | TfGM lists it as a separate way to pay. |
| Cash or card ticket purchase | Buy a ticket with cash or card. | TfGM lists cash/card purchase among the alternatives. |
TfGM’s ways-to-pay guidance describes the alternatives. A passenger needs a valid ticket or a successful tap with a smart card, contactless card or device. TfGM says travelling without one may result in a penalty fare of up to £120; that is an enforcement maximum, not a fee specific to Apple Wallet.
