Majority Bowfell Halo Atmos review: a compact 5.1 system for around £169

The Majority Bowfell Halo Atmos is best understood as a budget 5.1 soundbar package, not a guarantee of convincing overhead Dolby Atmos effects. TechRadar and What Hi-Fi? each reported a UK review-time price of £169 in 2026, while AVForums cited a £169.95 MSRP. Reviewers found engaging, powerful bass and useful dialogue clarity, but also limited scale, a clumsy soundstage or bass that can overwhelm. Those are findings from the named publications, not an Expert Reviews test or an independent listening test for this article.

What do you get for the money?

TechRadar describes the Bowfell Halo Atmos as a 5.1 system with a soundbar, dedicated subwoofer and rear speakers. That bundled layout is its clearest value argument: unlike a basic standalone bar, it includes separate rear speakers as well as a subwoofer. The rear speakers are part of the package, rather than an upgrade you must buy separately, according to the review’s configuration description.

TechRadar’s comparison table lists HDMI eARC, digital optical, AUX, USB and Bluetooth 5.3, and says the bar supports Dolby Atmos but not DTS:X. It gives dimensions of 405 x 90 x 62 mm for the bar, 185 x 150 x 320 mm for the subwoofer and 90 x 62 mm for the rear speakers. These are specifications reported by that review, not independently verified current manufacturer specifications; check the product listing or manual for the exact version you are considering. TechRadar’s review and comparison table provide the source for these details.

The manufacturer-hosted manual includes instructions for connecting through HDMI ARC/eARC. Check that your television has a compatible HDMI ARC/eARC connection and consult both devices’ documentation for audio-format support. The available evidence does not establish compatibility for every TV, source device or playback chain. The Bowfell Halo Atmos manual is the relevant setup reference.

How does it sound?

Bass and action sound

TechRadar found the subwoofer’s bass impactful and said action films gained fullness compared with basic TV audio. That punch may make the system more engaging for films and games, but it is not an unqualified strength: AVForums also warned that bass can become overbearing. Room, placement and personal preference will affect whether that balance suits you; the reviews do not establish a setting that resolves it for every listener. TechRadar and AVForums describe those different sides of the bass performance.

Dialogue and the soundstage

AVForums praised dialogue clarity for everyday television, a useful quality if speech is hard to follow through your TV’s built-in speakers. It also found the soundstage clumsy. TechRadar similarly said the sound did not feel as expansive as the reviewer wanted. Clear speech and broad, convincing cinematic placement are separate qualities: the positive comments on dialogue do not mean the system creates a large or seamless surround field. AVForums’ review and TechRadar’s review support these attributed observations.

Does Dolby Atmos provide convincing overhead sound?

The Bowfell Halo Atmos is listed as supporting Dolby Atmos, but a format-support label is not proof of dramatic height effects. The reviews highlight the system’s compact design and Atmos capability, yet do not establish that overhead effects are convincing across rooms, content and playback chains. What Hi-Fi? called it the cheapest Dolby Atmos soundbar it had tested at the time of its March 27, 2026 review; that is a historical description of that publication’s tested products, not a current market-wide ranking. What Hi-Fi?’s review discusses the system in that context.

Choose it primarily for the included subwoofer and rear speakers, with Atmos support as an additional capability rather than the sole reason to buy. Whether an Atmos signal reaches the system as intended depends on the TV, source and connection path; check their documentation instead of assuming every app or device will pass it through.

How does it compare with alternatives?

TechRadar’s comparison table names the Sony HT-SF150 and Hisense AX5125H as alternatives. Their configurations differ substantially, so compare what each package includes and how it is intended to sound, not just the review-time price.

Model Configuration and included speakers Connections or format notes Review evidence and price context
Majority Bowfell Halo Atmos 5.1; dedicated subwoofer and rear speakers, as described by TechRadar TechRadar lists HDMI eARC, optical, AUX, USB and Bluetooth 5.3; Atmos support, no DTS:X UK review-time prices reported as £169 by TechRadar and What Hi-Fi? and £169.95 MSRP by AVForums in 2026; current pricing and stock are unverified
Sony HT-SF150 2.0 standalone bar; no subwoofer or rear speakers, according to TechRadar’s table No Atmos listed in that table TechRadar’s table describes clear dialogue and clean bass; current price is not established here
Hisense AX5125H 5.1.2 package with subwoofer and rear speakers, according to TechRadar’s table Atmos package; consult current product documentation for connection and format details TechRadar describes it as costing more than the Majority; an exact comparable current price is not established here

The Sony is a simpler choice if you want a single bar and do not need included rear speakers or Atmos support. The Hisense has a different 5.1.2 configuration and is described as more expensive, making it a relevant step-up comparison if spatial effects matter more and your budget allows. For either alternative, verify current specifications, price and availability in your market; the cited comparison reflects TechRadar’s review-time information, not a live retailer check. TechRadar’s comparison is the source for these product contrasts.

Is the Majority Bowfell Halo Atmos worth it?

It is worth considering if you want a compact bar with a subwoofer and rear speakers in one low-cost package, and you value stronger bass and clearer TV dialogue more than a very spacious or precisely balanced soundstage. AVForums rated it 7/10 in its February 12, 2026 review; that is the publication’s editorial score, not a standardized test result. The reviewed UK prices clustered around £169, but those figures date from 2026 and do not establish today’s price, stock or availability outside the UK. TechRadar said it was not then available in the US or Australia, and What Hi-Fi? gave the same regional caveat in its review context; neither statement confirms current availability. AVForums, TechRadar and What Hi-Fi? provide the cited review-time assessments.
