Mailjet is a hosted email platform that combines newsletter and campaign tools with transactional email sending through its API and SMTP relay. It is worth considering if you need both kinds of email in one service, but the right fit depends on your sending volume, contact count, need for automation, and tolerance for account-level sending controls.
What Mailjet does
Mailjet, also presented as Sinch Mailjet, supports marketing campaigns and transactional email. Its product materials describe a drag-and-drop editor, templates, personalization, segmentation, A/B testing, inbox previews, subscription forms, collaboration features, and a WordPress plugin. For transactional messages, it offers API and SMTP sending, with webhooks for event handling. These are vendor-described features; independent hands-on performance testing is not established here.
That combination may be useful for a team that wants campaign newsletters and application-generated messages—such as receipts or account notifications—under one provider. Compare its capabilities against your actual workflow rather than assuming every feature is included in every plan.

Annual billing and the September 2026 price update
Mailjet announced a self-service subscription pricing update effective September 9, 2026. Its notice lists USD Essential 15k at $19 monthly or $17.10 per month as an annual-billing equivalent, and Premium 15k at $29 monthly or $26.10 annual-equivalent. Starter is listed at $9 monthly or $8.10 annual-equivalent. The annual figure is a monthly equivalent, not the total annual charge; Mailjet says annual billing provides a 10% discount. Confirm the billing term and total at checkout. See the pricing update notice.

What changes as you move up a plan
Mailjet’s plan materials describe meaningful feature differences, not just larger sending allowances. Availability can vary by volume tier.
- Free: A small-volume option with 1,000 contacts, 6,000 messages monthly, and a 200-message daily cap.
- Starter: Raises the displayed contact limit to 2,000 and monthly allowance to 8,000. The displayed plan price is $9 monthly.
- Essential: Adds unlimited contacts, segmentation, AI-assisted content creation, email preview and validation credits, and a custom unsubscribe page over Starter.
- Premium: Adds advanced statistics, automation, landing pages, team and account management, and priority support. Dedicated IP availability and some extras depend on volume.
Mailjet’s subscription guide and pricing materials should be checked for the exact inclusions on the volume tier you intend to buy. If automation or landing pages are essential, confirm they are available for that tier before subscribing.

Sending limits that matter in practice
“No daily limit” on a plan page should not be read as unrestricted sending. Mailjet says paid accounts can set daily limits by API key. Standard paid accounts default to a key limit of five times their subscription sending limit; Custom contract accounts default to unlimited. Compliance reviews, new-account restrictions, free-plan contact limits, unpaid invoices, and key-level settings can also affect sending. The provider’s help center describes these controls in its daily sending limit guide and account limitation guidance.
For API integrations, Mailjet documents rate limiting and states: “If you reach a rate limit, our API will return a 429 HTTP error code.” Build retry handling that waits before retrying, and use bulk functionality where suitable rather than issuing excessive high-frequency requests. See Mailjet’s rate-limit documentation.
List quality is also a provider-policy issue. Mailjet prohibits purchased, rented, and scraped third-party lists and specifies acceptable sending metric thresholds that it may revise. Use permission-based contacts and review the current acceptable-use policy before sending.

Mailjet’s help center says the service is ISO 27001 certified and certified as GDPR-compliant by AFNOR; it also says stored data is natively encrypted and replicated, and that customers may request audit reports and security policies. Its security page describes EU-based data centers and a HIPAA-ready configuration available on request. These are Mailjet’s own statements, not an independent audit of a particular account or configuration. Review the current contract, data processing agreement, audit evidence, and configuration requirements before using the service for sensitive or regulated information.

Who should consider Mailjet?
A plausible fit
- You send both marketing campaigns and transactional messages and want one hosted provider for both.
- Your contact count and monthly volume fit a plan’s stated limits, and you have verified the relevant tier’s features.
- Your developers can handle API rate limits and account/key sending controls.
Look closely before committing
- You need Premium features such as automation or landing pages: verify availability for your chosen volume tier.
- You send time-sensitive transactional mail at high volume: test your integration’s retry and rate-limit behavior and confirm account-level controls with Mailjet.
- You process regulated or sensitive data: obtain and assess the applicable contractual and security documentation rather than relying on general marketing claims.
- You plan to import lists: ensure they are permission-based and permitted by the current acceptable-use policy.
How to compare Mailjet with alternatives
Compare services at the same monthly sending volume and currency, then account for more than the headline price. Check contact limits, campaign-editor needs, automation, transactional API and SMTP requirements, rate-limit behavior, support level, collaboration controls, data-location documentation, and list policies. Mailjet’s published materials establish its own feature set and restrictions, but do not establish that it is cheaper, more deliverable, or easier than a particular competitor.
