Mailchimp vs Brevo for Newsletters in Brazil (2026): Free Limits, Pricing and Which to Choose

Neither platform is the better choice for every Brazilian newsletter. The deciding factors are how many contacts you store and how many emails you send per day and per month. Mailchimp’s Free plan caps the audience itself, while Brevo’s Free plan allows a much larger stored list but limits how many emails can go out each day. Those are different constraints, so the option that looks cheaper can hit its limit first depending on your list.

The figures below are the plan terms shown on each vendor’s official pages as of October 2026. Plan terms change, so confirm them on the vendor’s checkout page before you commit.

What the free limits mean for a real list

A limit only matters once you map it to your own schedule. Two common cases show where each plan breaks.

A 250-subscriber newsletter

This is the largest list Mailchimp Free allows. Sending the full list once a week produces about 1,000 sends a month, which is above the 500-send monthly cap. Two full sends a month (500 sends) use the entire allowance, and a third full send would exceed it. Because the plan pauses sending when limits are exceeded, a publisher on this plan needs to plan the month’s sends in advance rather than discover the cap during a launch.

A 1,000-subscriber newsletter

Mailchimp Free cannot hold this list at all, since its ceiling is 250 contacts. On Brevo Free the list can be stored, but the daily cap governs delivery. At 300 sends per day, one full send to 1,000 people takes at least four days (1,000 ÷ 300 is 3.33, rounded up). A weekly newsletter fits that pattern, but a same-day send to the whole list does not. Because unused sends do not carry over, a quiet day does not add capacity to the next one.

Paid plans: why starting prices do not settle the choice

Brevo lists starting prices in US dollars in its help documentation: Starter from $9 per month and Standard from $18 per month, with paid tiers sized by send volume and contact storage listed separately. Mailchimp expresses monthly sends on its compare-plans page as a multiple of the maximum contacts for the selected tier, so the send allowance has to be read from that page rather than inferred from a headline price. Use the steps below to compare paid options on the same basis.

  1. Count your current contacts, then estimate the list size you expect in 12 months.
  2. Multiply the number of campaigns you send each month by the number of recipients per campaign. This is your monthly send volume.
  3. List the automations you need, such as welcome series, branching flows or re-engagement emails, and the contact volume each one will touch.
  4. Count the team members who need access. Check whether seats are included in the tier you are pricing.
  5. Decide whether you need SMS or WhatsApp. If so, price those messages separately (see the channels section below).
  6. Request the final checkout amount in Brazilian reais for the exact tier and read the total, including taxes and fees.

Brazil pricing, currency and taxes

Mailchimp’s Portuguese pricing page shows non-USD values as estimates. The page says the final charge may vary with the exchange rate applied at payment processing and that applicable taxes and fees are added on top. The vendor’s own wording is “O valor final pode variar.” The official pages reviewed do not establish a fixed BRL price, so treat any reais figure on the page as indicative.

Brevo’s starting prices are in US dollars, and the help documentation presents them as listed starting prices rather than confirmed Brazilian checkout totals. Obtain the account-specific quote before comparing costs. When you compare the two, put both final amounts side by side in reais, with taxes included, and at the same point in time, because exchange rates move.

Automation, seats and messaging channels

Automation

Brevo’s free plan includes multichannel automation for up to 2,000 contacts, and its paid plans add broader automation and reporting depending on tier. Mailchimp’s automation steps vary by plan according to its plan comparison page. Do not assume that a free tier includes every flow you want. Confirm the specific automation features on the tier you will actually use.

Seats

Mailchimp Free includes one seat. The Brevo plan documentation reviewed does not state how many users its free plan includes, so check the seat allowance on the plan you are considering if more than one person will work on the list.

SMS and WhatsApp

  • Mailchimp SMS: Mailchimp says SMS is available in selected markets with a paid marketing plan and requires an application and approval. The sources reviewed do not establish that SMS is available in Brazil, so confirm this with Mailchimp before planning an SMS program.
  • Brevo SMS: Brevo documents prepaid SMS credits as an add-on available across plans.
  • Brevo WhatsApp: Prepaid WhatsApp credits are documented only for the Professional and Enterprise plans.

Message charges for Brazilian recipients should be confirmed on the account before you build a channel into your publishing plan. A general feature list does not confirm local availability or per-message cost.

Deliverability and consent apply equally to both

The plan documentation does not establish a difference in inbox placement or engagement between Mailchimp and Brevo, so this should not decide the choice. Whichever platform you use, authenticate the sending domain with SPF and DKIM, and publish a DMARC policy. Send only to people who opted in, keep a record of when and how each subscriber consented, and offer a clear unsubscribe link. Brazil’s data protection law, the LGPD (Lei Geral de Proteção de Dados), applies to how you collect and process personal data, so consent records matter for a Brazilian publisher regardless of the platform. Before moving your full list, send a small permission-based segment and check results in the platform’s reporting.

Which one to choose

  • Stay on a free tier only if your list is 250 contacts or fewer, you send no more than about two full sends a month, you work alone, and you do not need SMS or WhatsApp.
  • Lean toward Brevo if your list is already above 250 contacts and you can spread campaigns so that no single day needs more than 300 sends on the free plan, or if you expect to outgrow Mailchimp’s contact cap soon.
  • Lean toward Mailchimp if your audience fits its tier structure, you need the automation steps included in the tier you can afford, and you do not plan to rely on SMS in Brazil unless Mailchimp confirms availability for your account.
  • Price a paid tier on both platforms if you need more than 500 monthly sends, a team seat beyond the free allowance, or an automation feature that only appears on a paid plan. Use the checkout quote in reais, not the USD starting price, as your comparison basis.
