Magnetometr to niewielki czujnik trójosiowy. Google Science Journal Help opisuje magnetometr jako element telefonu przeznaczony do wykrywania pól magnetycznych: Sensors on your device.

Apple zaleca unikanie akcesoriów magnetycznych lub magnetyczno-metalowych w pobliżu tylnej kamery iPhone’a, jeśli priorytetem jest jej prawidłowe działanie: Magnetic accessories may interfere with iPhone cameras.

NIST opisuje koncepcję wykorzystującą magnetometr telefonu i namagnesowany hydrożel do pomiaru właściwości próbek cieczy: Cellphone Magnetometers as Biosensors.
