The new high-end 4K Blu-ray player is Magnetar’s ULTIMA, a universal media transport announced on September 2, 2026. Magnetar says it is now shipping through authorized dealers and distributors, with a manufacturer-listed MSRP of $12,000. The launch announcement describes its formats and features, but does not establish independent picture or audio test results.
What is the new high-end 4K Blu-ray player?
It is the Magnetar ULTIMA, a universal media transport built on the company’s MKII platform. Magnetar announced it at CEDIA Expo on September 2, 2026, positioning it as a reference transport for physical discs and digital media. “Reference” is the company’s positioning, not an independently verified performance conclusion.

Magnetar President of North America Rob Jones said: “At a time when manufacturers are turning away from reference-grade physical media playback, Magnetar is doubling down.” That is the company’s rationale for the product, rather than evidence about market-wide demand.
When is it launching, and where can you buy it?
The launch is no longer merely upcoming: Magnetar says ULTIMA is now shipping through its authorized dealer and distributor network. The announcement does not name individual dealers, establish local inventory, or provide a direct consumer checkout route, so availability will depend on the buyer’s region and seller.

What formats and features does Magnetar list?
According to Magnetar’s launch announcement, ULTIMA supports the following disc and media formats:

How does ULTIMA differ from Magnetar’s UDP900?
ULTIMA and the UDP900 are separate products. Magnetar describes ULTIMA as a universal media transport on its MKII platform; the UDP900 is an existing reference-class 4K UHD Blu-ray player whose own product page lists Dolby Vision and HDR10+. Do not treat UDP900 specifications as ULTIMA specifications, or assume their prices or intended use are interchangeable.

For broader market context, TechRadar’s August 28, 2026 buying guide characterizes the UDP800 as an audiophile-oriented option and contrasts its feature level and price with Panasonic’s DP-UB820. That is editorial context about existing models, not a controlled comparison and not a test of ULTIMA.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What is not yet established about its performance?
The launch announcement supplies Magnetar’s specifications, price, and shipping status, but it does not establish independent comparative picture or listening results for ULTIMA. Its “reference” label should therefore be read as positioning, not as proof that it outperforms other players. Buyers evaluating a $12,000 transport should distinguish the published feature list from independent hands-on testing.
