Wizards of the Coast says it will reopen orders for Secret Lair x MSCHF: The Zeta Set on Dec. 9, 2026, after technical problems disrupted the original sale. The new window is scheduled to last 24 hours, and Wizards says every order placed during it will be fulfilled. Shipping is estimated to begin in the second half of 2027.
When is the Zeta Set sale coming back?
In an Oct. 1, 2026 update, Wizards announced a single 24-hour ordering window for Dec. 9, 2026, through the Secret Lair online store. The company said it would fulfill every order placed during that window. That is an announced ordering period, not a permanent return to sale; Wizards has not published a total stock count or quantified demand.

Wizards said orders from the new window are expected to start shipping in the second half of 2027. That is a forward-looking estimate, and the company said it would share more timing information closer to the sale.

What went wrong with the first sale?
Wizards attributed the problems to an external service disruption affecting systems that supported the launch. Its Oct. 1 account described a queue that stopped moving, checkout errors, and confirmation emails that arrived late or did not arrive, leaving customers unsure whether their orders had gone through.

- The cards included in this very special Secret Lair drop will be completely new to Magic, depicting the iconic characters of the long-running and critically acclaimed TV series.
Matthew Hodgins, the author of the update, said the queue was paused while backend systems were strained. He estimated that thousands of people spent roughly an extra hour and a half waiting, and said only a few customers obtained the remaining stock after the sale resumed. These are Wizards’ own operational details, not independently audited figures. Hodgins wrote: “A sale isn’t a success just because inventory hits zero.”
What should existing preorder customers do?
As of the Oct. 1 announcement, Wizards said no orders had shipped and most customers had not been charged. Customers who wanted to cancel were told to submit a support ticket by Oct. 9, 2026; anyone who wanted to keep an existing preorder did not need to take action. Those instructions reflect the terms stated in that announcement and may not describe current support options.

Is this the same as the Monster Hunter Secret Lair backlash?
No. The Zeta Set announcement concerns a disrupted sale and a new ordering window. The separate Secret Lair x Monster Hunter Superdrop announcement, published Nov. 26, 2025, followed fan dissatisfaction with its card selection and how it incorporated the Monster Hunter world and mechanics.

It said updated details and a release date would follow in 2026. That was a product rework, not a rerun of the Zeta Set sale. Wizards acknowledged the reaction: “We heard loud and clear that you were disappointed, and we believe we can do better.”

- Check out these bugs I found under a rotten log in the graveyard! I’ve never seen bugs like this before. They’re so awesome. I don’t know which is my favorite. I really like the green and blue ones, but I also like the green and pink ones. My pockets are full of ’em! I also saw a hand coming out of the ground under the log. It didn’t have much skin, but the fingers started moving. Cool, right?
