That could point to current-generation versions, but the linked rating records have not been independently verified here—and an ESRB rating alone does not confirm a release, upgrade, or launch date.
What the reported ratings do—and do not—confirm
A Reddit post links ESRB record numbers 41424 and 41389 for the two games, but the linked pages could not be checked directly. Treat the PS5 and Xbox Series listings as a report rather than confirmed platform announcements. Read the October 7, 2026 report.

Even if new platform ratings are confirmed, a rating is not the same as a publisher announcement. It does not by itself establish whether the games will receive native PS5 and Xbox Series editions, when they might arrive, or whether existing owners will get a free or paid upgrade.
Do not confuse these games with Mafia: Definitive Edition
2K has confirmed current-generation support for Mafia: Definitive Edition, the first game—not for Mafia II or Mafia III. 2K says the first game came to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on August 14, 2026, with 60 FPS and technical improvements. Its announcement covers that title’s eligibility and download steps only. 2K support: Mafia: Definitive Edition on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. PlayStation also lists the first game for PS5 with that release date. PlayStation: Mafia: Definitive Edition.

The similarly named editions are easy to mix up: Mafia: Definitive Edition is the first game, while Mafia II: Definitive Edition and Mafia III: Definitive Edition are separate releases. The first game’s frame-rate, upgrade, save-transfer, or eligibility details should not be assumed to apply to the other two.

On PlayStation, Mafia II: Definitive Edition is listed as a PS4 game playable on PS5 through backward compatibility. That is not a native PS5 edition, and PlayStation notes that some PS4 features may be unavailable on PS5. Its store page describes the PS4 product as including the main game and DLC. PlayStation: Mafia II: Definitive Edition.
These existing listings provide routes to the current editions, but they do not establish that either game has a PS5 or Xbox Series upgrade. Check the platform and edition on a store listing before buying; do not assume an older copy qualifies for a future upgrade.
