On October 6, 2026, TechRadar reported that Amazon’s Prime Big Deal Days price for the 13-inch Apple MacBook Air with M5, 16GB of unified memory and 512GB of storage was $1,099 in the US, down from $1,299. That is a reported $200 discount—not confirmation that the offer is still available. Check the live listing and checkout total before buying. TechRadar reviewer Lance Ulanoff called it “still the best ultraportable I’ve ever used”; that is his personal assessment, not an objective ranking.
What was the reported Prime Day price?
TechRadar’s October 6, 2026 deal report listed the 13-inch, 16GB/512GB MacBook Air M5 at $1,099, reduced from $1,299 in the US. Macworld’s roundup on the same date listed the same US configuration and prices. In the UK, TechRadar reported £1,199 from £1,299; Macworld listed £1,199.97 from £1,299 for the 16GB/512GB model. Is the discount meaningful?
The reported US offer was $200 below the listed $1,299 price. But that comparison needs context: Macworld’s October 2026 buying guide says Apple raised Mac prices in June 2026. A discount against the current listed price does not by itself establish an all-time low or show how the offer compares with earlier sale prices. Compare the live offer with the current MSRP and any dated prices you can verify.

What makes the 13-inch Air appealing?
In his March 9, 2026 TechRadar review, Lance Ulanoff described the M5 Air as very similar to the M4 model, with the new generation bringing performance and efficiency improvements. He praised its portability: the aluminum chassis weighs 2.7 pounds (1.24 kg) and houses a 13.6-inch Liquid Retina display. The review also lists a 12MP Center Stage camera, Thunderbolt 4 ports, Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.
Ulanoff said the laptop handled productivity, photo editing and social video editing in his use. His review described five days of use that included multiple apps, editing, games, streaming and benchmark runs, and rated the laptop 4.5/5. Those are the reviewer’s findings, not a guarantee that every workload or user will get the same results.

Battery life is not a runtime promise
Apple’s stated maximum, as reported in the TechRadar review, is up to 18 hours of video streaming. Ulanoff said his mixed-use experience came closer to that maximum than his earlier experience with the M4 Air. Streaming-video claims and one reviewer’s mixed-use observation are different measures; neither guarantees a particular runtime for your apps, settings or workload.

What the M5 generation does—and does not—change
The review characterizes the M5 as an incremental update in a familiar design. Ulanoff valued the performance and efficiency improvements and the 512GB starting storage, while noting the higher starting price and limited design changes. He also wrote that Apple Intelligence had not convinced him of its utility. If you already own an M4 Air, the case for upgrading depends on whether the newer performance, efficiency or storage matters to you; the review does not present the M5 as a redesign.

Should you choose the 13-inch or 15-inch model?
The 13-inch model favors a lighter, more portable setup. The 15-inch model gives you more screen space, but it is heavier and costs more. Macworld’s October 6, 2026 roundup listed these 16GB/512GB offers:
| Model and configuration | US reported price | UK reported price |
|---|---|---|
| 13-inch MacBook Air M5, 16GB/512GB | $1,099, reduced from $1,299 (TechRadar and Macworld, October 6, 2026) | £1,199 (TechRadar, October 6, 2026); £1,199.97 (Macworld, October 6, 2026) |
| 15-inch MacBook Air M5, 16GB/512GB | $1,299, reduced from $1,499 (Macworld, October 6, 2026) | £1,344.97, reduced from £1,499 (Macworld, October 6, 2026) |

Who should buy this configuration?
- Consider the 13-inch model if you want a portable everyday laptop and the reported 16GB/512GB configuration suits your apps and file needs.
- Consider the 15-inch model if the larger display is worth the additional size and the current price difference to you.
- Consider a MacBook Pro or another higher-performance machine if your work depends on sustained professional workloads. The review’s positive results for productivity and moderate creative work do not establish that the Air is ideal for every professional workflow.
- Compare memory and storage before checkout: a deal price applies to a specific configuration, not every MacBook Air M5 listing.
