If you’re shopping in the US, the 13-inch MacBook Air with M5, 16GB of memory and 512GB of storage was reported at $1,099 on Amazon on October 6, 2026—$200 below its cited $1,299 MSRP. That makes the Air a compelling choice for buyers whose needs fit its features, but it does not prove the Air matches a MacBook Pro’s performance. Confirm the live price and configuration before buying.

When the Air is a sensible alternative to a Pro
The Air is worth considering if your priority is a thin, light Mac for everyday work, study and creative projects, and you do not have a specific Pro requirement. Apple describes the M5 Air as suited to workflows from creative projects to complex AI tasks. That is the manufacturer’s positioning, not independent proof that it performs like a Pro under sustained heavy workloads.

Apple’s March 3, 2026 announcement lists a 512GB storage starting point, Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 through its N1 wireless chip, two Thunderbolt 4 ports supporting up to two external displays, a 12MP Center Stage camera, a Liquid Retina display and up to 18 hours of battery life. These are Apple specifications and claims, not independently tested results here. When to compare a MacBook Pro instead
Choose by workload and exact configuration, rather than assuming the Air and Pro are interchangeable. If your work involves sustained demanding tasks, or you need capabilities specific to a Pro model, compare the relevant configurations and evidence for those tasks before deciding. The deal reports and Apple announcement cited here do not provide a controlled, like-for-like benchmark between a specific M5 Air and M5 Pro.

- Compare the total configuration: match memory and storage to your needs, then compare the price of that configuration—not just the entry price.
- Check display needs: the deal reports cover 13-inch and 15-inch Air models with the same listed memory and storage. Pick the larger screen if that is valuable to you, rather than treating it as a performance upgrade.
- Check connections and displays: Apple lists two Thunderbolt 4 ports and support for up to two external displays on the Air. Verify that this meets your particular setup.
