What is the MacBook Air A2681?
Apple names it “MacBook Air (M2, 2022).” ENERGY STAR’s product record identifies the 13-inch M2 model as A2681 and lists an 8-core Apple M2 with 8 GB of memory. The model number identifies the computer family, not the configuration or condition of an individual unit.

Apple’s listed configurations include an M2 with an 8-core CPU—four performance cores and four efficiency cores—and an 8-core GPU in the base configuration, with a 10-core GPU available as an option. The chip includes a 16-core Neural Engine and 100 GB/s memory bandwidth. Unified memory options are 8 GB, 16 GB, and 24 GB; storage ranges from 256 GB to 2 TB. When comparing listings, check memory, storage, and GPU configuration as well as the A2681 identifier.
What are the display and design like?
The 13.6-inch diagonal LED-backlit IPS Liquid Retina display has a native resolution of 2560 × 1664, 224 pixels per inch, and a stated brightness of 500 nits. Apple also lists P3 wide color, True Tone, and support for one billion colors. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements.

Apple’s launch announcement describes an all-aluminum enclosure, a thickness of 11.3 mm, and a weight of 2.7 pounds. It also highlights a 1080p FaceTime HD camera, a four-speaker system, and a fanless design. These figures and features come from Apple’s product materials; no hands-on measurements were made for this review.
How long does the battery last?
Apple rates the laptop for up to 15 hours of wireless web browsing and up to 18 hours of Apple TV app movie playback. Those are controlled manufacturer test results, not a prediction of everyday runtime. Apple says testing took place in May 2022 on pre-production 13-inch M2 systems configured with an 8-core CPU, 8-core GPU, 8 GB of RAM, and a 256 GB SSD. The web test browsed 25 popular websites; the movie test played HD 1080p video. In both tests, display brightness was set eight clicks from the bottom. Apple notes that battery life varies with use and configuration.

For a used or refurbished unit, ask about battery health and evaluate runtime under the workload you expect to use. Apple’s test figures do not establish the condition or remaining capacity of any secondhand machine.
Which ports does it have, and can it run an external monitor?
The A2681 has MagSafe 3 for charging, a 3.5 mm headphone jack, and two Thunderbolt/USB 4 ports. Apple lists support on those ports for charging, DisplayPort, Thunderbolt 3 up to 40 Gb/s, USB 4 up to 40 Gb/s, and USB 3.1 Gen 2 up to 10 Gb/s. MagSafe charging leaves both Thunderbolt ports available for accessories.

Apple specifies support for one external display up to 6K at 60 Hz. If your setup needs more connectors, a compatible hub may provide additional port types, but it does not change the computer’s stated one-external-display support. Check adapter compatibility with your devices and current macOS before choosing one.
What should you expect from M2 performance?
The specifications describe capable hardware on paper: an 8-core CPU, up to a 10-core GPU, 100 GB/s memory bandwidth, and a media engine with ProRes encode and decode support. Apple’s launch materials also make comparisons with earlier Air models, but those are Apple’s own launch-era claims, not independent benchmark results.

A performance judgment for a particular job—such as video editing, development, or large creative projects—requires tests on the configuration and software you intend to use. Pay particular attention to memory and storage: the M2 chip name alone does not tell you how a specific listing will suit your workload.
Is the A2681 still worth buying?
It can be worth considering if the specific unit is in good condition and its price makes sense against newer Air models and other current options. Apple’s comparison page includes later generations, but no present-day prices, inventory, or used-market condition data are established here. There is therefore no reliable universal price threshold or blanket verdict.
