Neither tracker is a clear overall winner on the evidence available, but Fitbit Air is the safer pick for most buyers. It is cheaper, light, and has fully documented features and phone requirements. Luna Band is worth considering if you care most about a longer battery claim and a no-subscription model. Both of those Luna points come from press coverage, not a manufacturer specification page, so confirm them before you buy.

Price: Fitbit Air is cheaper up front
Tom’s Guide reported on September 20, 2026 that Luna Band costs $149 and Fitbit Air starts at $99. Google’s US store page lists Fitbit Air from $99.99. That is a gap of roughly $50. Prices vary by region, retailer, and promotion, so check the figure shown where you live. Also add the ongoing cost: if you want Google’s coaching, Premium membership is a recurring expense, which could narrow the gap over time. Google’s pricing for Premium is not covered here, so check it at checkout.

Battery life: Luna claims more, but it is unproven
Google specifies up to seven days for Fitbit Air. Tom’s Guide reports a claimed ten days for Luna Band, and its author states he has not personally verified that number. Treat it as a manufacturer-style claim, not a tested result. Real battery life depends on how often you sync, how many workouts you track, and which features you enable. Fitbit Air ships with a USB-C charging cable, which is convenient if you already charge other devices that way.
Weight and comfort: Fitbit Air is lighter
Tom’s Guide lists approximate weights of 14 g for Fitbit Air and 26 g for Luna Band. Google’s own spec is 12 g with the band and 5.2 g for the tracker alone. The difference likely reflects measurement basis or variant, so don’t read the Luna number as strictly like-for-like. The direction is still consistent: the Fitbit is considerably lighter. Reviewer Dan Bracaglia wrote, “The Fitbit Air is by far the lightest and most comfortable.” That is one editor’s assessment, not a lab measurement, and comfort is personal. It matters most if you sleep with the tracker on.

What each tracks and what is behind a paywall
Fitbit Air
Google lists:
- 24/7 heart rate and activity tracking
- Sleep score and sleep stages
- SpO2, heart-rate variability, and breathing rate
- Skin-temperature variation
- An AFib-related rhythm feature
- Water resistance up to 50 meters
- A vibration motor
Google says core tracking is included with Google Health when paired with Fitbit Air. Google Health Coach and personalized coaching are associated with Premium membership. So you get the basics for free, but the most guided experience costs extra.
Luna Band
Tom’s Guide says Luna’s features are subscription-free. That is attractive if you dislike recurring fees, but no Luna primary source was available to confirm exactly which features are included, what sensors it has, or its water resistance. Verify those on Luna’s own site before relying on the claim.

Compatibility and ecosystem
Fitbit Air needs a Google account and a compatible phone: Android 11.0 or later, or iOS 16.4 or later. If you already use Google Health or Fitbit data, switching to Air keeps your history in one place. For Luna, the phone and app requirements were not established, so check that your phone is supported and that the app can export or sync data to the services you use. Google also documents optional accessory band styles for Fitbit Air; check compatibility before buying any.
Accuracy: no verdict is possible
No independent study comparing heart-rate, sleep, or step accuracy between these two models was found. Any claim that one is more accurate would be a guess. If accuracy is your priority, wait for hands-on tests, or compare the two against a chest strap or your own routine during a return window.
