Ludhiana’s district health teams continued anti-dengue inspections in September 2026, and some checked homes still had mosquito larvae in water-holding containers. The reports document recurring district-wide surveillance, but do not identify specific city neighbourhoods where stagnant water persists.
What Ludhiana’s latest anti-dengue inspections found
The reported figures are snapshots from separate drives on different dates, not cumulative totals. The Tribune’s September 29 account said teams visited 255 areas, checked 5,478 houses and 13,855 containers, and found larvae in 21 containers at 17 houses. Teams also inspected 236 government and private offices. The account referred to 42 fresh dengue cases identified two days earlier; that wording is not reconciled with other reported case totals.

In a September 26 report, The Tribune said a drive covered 414 designated areas, 12,682 households and 21,981 containers, with 43 containers positive for larvae. On September 13, it reported checks of 10,846 homes and 25,258 containers across 267 areas; larvae were detected in 45 houses and 49 containers, and breeding sources were eliminated.

- Convenient Mosquito Larvae Pouches Set: Includes 142g mosquito larvae pouches plus 1 g, 2.5 g, 5 g, 7.5 g, and 15 g measuring spoons; treats about 132-18744 gallons and works up to 150 days to help stop larvae from becoming biting adults (Contains 4.25% S-methoxyfenozide. Pet-safe when used as directed. Avoid ingestion — toxic if large amounts eaten.)
- Safe for Water Habitats: Formulated with 4.25% S-Methoprene, these mosquito pellets style water-soluble pouches while remaining suitable for fish, birds, and plants; the slow-dissolving formula works well in ponds, trays, patios, yards, and other water sites
- EPA-Registered Control: These mosquito pellets style pouches target larvae provide effective mosquito larvae control without neurotoxic action; designed for dependable use around homes and gardens while supporting a cleaner outdoor environment
- Prevents Mosquito-Borne Diseases: Our mosquito pellets or mosquito tablets help stop mosquito larvae from breeding in water sources, helping reduce the risk of mosquito-borne diseases such as easing concerns about mosquitoes in your outdoor spaces
- Easy, No-Mess Use: Apply mosquito granules directly with the included spoons to birdbaths, flower pot trays, buckets, tanks, sump areas, birdbaths, pools, and ornamental ponds; a practical option for mosquito tablets for standing water treatment in small water sites
Where residents should look for stagnant water
The September 26 Tribune report lists rooftop water tanks, air coolers, flower-pot trays and refrigerator drip trays among containers inspected. These are practical places to check because water can collect in or beneath everyday household items.
- Check rooftop tanks and other water-storage containers for standing water and larvae.
- Inspect air coolers and empty or refresh water that is not needed.
- Look beneath flower pots, including trays that can retain water.
- Check refrigerator drip trays and other indoor containers that collect water.
- Look around the home and its surroundings for water-holding items, not only inside rooms.
The campaign’s public message, “Har Shukarvaar, Dengue Te Vaar” (“Every Friday, a strike against dengue”), encourages residents to make these checks weekly. Ludhiana Civil Surgeon Dr Ramandeep Kaur told The Tribune on September 13 that the campaign was “a call to every household to take responsibility for dengue prevention.”

Do the reports confirm which city pockets are affected?
No specific neighbourhoods are named in the reports cited here. The inspection figures describe activity across many areas, but do not establish which city pockets have persistent stagnant water. It would be misleading to assign the findings to particular localities without locality-specific health-department or municipal information.
How to read Ludhiana’s dengue figures
Case totals depend on the report date and whether a figure counts confirmed, suspected or newly identified cases. The September 10 Hindustan Times report said 36 positive cases had been reported by September 8, the same-date 2025 count. It also noted that cases in 2025 had risen to 539 by December.

The Tribune’s September 26 status panel listed 54 confirmed dengue cases and 5,726 suspected cases, as well as 71 confirmed malaria cases. Those are a later report’s district-status figures and a different category snapshot; they should not be collapsed into the September 8 count or treated as directly contradictory. The September 26 article also used a headline figure of 42 dengue patients identified, which it did not clearly reconcile with its status panel.
Hindustan Times reported 1,301 challans issued that season for larvae detections, including 767 within Ludhiana city, compared with 1,646 from January through August 2025. District epidemiologist Dr Supreet Kaur attributed fewer larvae detections to a weaker monsoon, while the report said dengue case totals had not fallen. A lower detection or challan count alone therefore does not establish a lower dengue burden.

Why removing standing water matters
The National Centre for Disease Control’s Punjab State Action Plan describes dengue as a viral disease transmitted through the infective bite of Aedes (Aegypti/Albopictus) mosquitoes. The plan’s Ludhiana district table records 1,083 cases in 2017, 489 in 2018, 1,509 in 2019, 1,355 in 2020 and 1,829 in 2021. These historical figures provide context, not a current-season tally.

The September inspection reports describe health teams acting on identified breeding sources, while asking households to remove stagnant water routinely. A weekly check helps residents catch water that has collected in containers between visits; it complements, rather than replaces, public surveillance.
