Lucknow Civic Body’s EC-Approved Revised Budget Targets ₹811 Crore in House Tax

Lucknow Municipal Corporation’s Executive Committee approved a revised 2026–27 budget reported at ₹5,319.29 crore, including an ₹811 crore house-tax collection target. The total includes the opening balance; it is not the corporation’s projected income for the year. The proposal was to be placed before the LMC House for final approval, so the available reports do not establish that the House has approved it.

What the ₹5,319.29 crore budget total represents

Hindustan Times reported on October 1, 2026, that the revised budget approved by the Executive Committee totals ₹5,319.29 crore. That headline figure includes the opening balance. The annual income estimate is ₹3,740.34 crore, while projected expenditure is ₹3,739.56 crore; the budget projects a closing balance of ₹1,579.72 crore. These are budget estimates, not final accounts of money received or spent.

Budget figure Reported amount What it means
Revised budget total ₹5,319.29 crore Includes the opening balance
Projected annual income ₹3,740.34 crore Estimated income for 2026–27
Projected expenditure ₹3,739.56 crore Estimated spending for 2026–27
Projected closing balance ₹1,579.72 crore Balance projected at year-end

All four figures were reported by Hindustan Times. The total should not be read as the amount LMC expects to collect during the year: the annual income estimate is lower because the total also incorporates the opening balance.

What the ₹811 crore house-tax target means

The ₹811 crore is a target for collecting house tax, not a reported increase in house-tax rates. Hindustan Times reported the target on October 1, 2026. The Times of India reported that the previous target was ₹750 crore and that no tax-rate increase was proposed. A higher collection target does not, by itself, establish that individual bills or rates will rise.

Where the reported allocations are directed

Hindustan Times reported around ₹1,319 crore for roads, infrastructure and construction-related works, and ₹585.05 crore for sanitation and solid waste management. These are reported budget allocations; the detailed revised budget document was not available in the reviewed official records, so more granular line items should not be inferred from these summaries.

  • Roads, infrastructure and construction-related work: around ₹1,319 crore.
  • Sanitation and solid waste management: ₹585.05 crore.

Has the revised budget received final approval?

The reported approval was by LMC’s Executive Committee, at a meeting chaired by mayor Sushma Kharkwal. A Times of India report dated October 2, 2026, said the EC-cleared proposal would be tabled in the LMC House for final approval. That makes it important to distinguish committee approval from a final House decision: the available reports do not confirm a subsequent House vote.

The LMC Accounts Department page lists budget records, including a Main Budget 2026–27, but the reviewed page did not expose the revised 2026–27 document. The reported headline figures therefore remain secondary reporting of budget projections, rather than independently checked line items from the revised official file.
