A 17-year-old was taken into police custody after his 42-year-old mother was allegedly killed at their apartment in Lucknow on October 1, 2026, according to media reports citing police. Reports connect the family’s conflict to gender identity, but the circumstances and motive remain under investigation and have not been established in court.

What is known about the Lucknow case

Hindustan Times reported that the incident took place at Vision Apartment near Rajendra Nagar crossing in the Naka area of Lucknow. It identified the woman as Geeta Bhagchandani, 42, and said her 17-year-old son was found at the apartment and taken into custody. These are allegations reported from police accounts, not a court finding. Hindustan Times

What reports say about the family conflict

Hindustan Times reported that police said the teenager had been living separately from family amid differences related to gender identity. The Times of India described an alleged dispute about gender-affirming surgery and reported that an iron wrench was involved. Those details come from media accounts of police statements; reports differ on the confrontation and timing, so they should not be treated as settled facts or as proof of motive. The Times of India

Gender identity does not explain or establish responsibility for violence. The reported family disagreement is one part of an unresolved investigation, not a basis for generalizing about transgender people or gender-diverse people.

Police allegations and the ongoing investigation

In an October 2 update, Hindustan Times reported that police alleged the killing had been planned and that investigators found a diary said to contain details. The outlet quoted Naka-Hindola station house officer Vivek Chaudhary as saying: “The evidence recovered during the investigation suggests that the murder was planned.” This is an attributed police allegation made during an ongoing investigation, not a final forensic conclusion or judicial finding. Hindustan Times

Accounts published on October 2 differ over whether the incident happened in the morning or at night and on details of the alleged confrontation and objects involved. The consistent reported outline is an alleged killing at a Lucknow apartment on October 1, followed by the teenager’s custody and a police investigation. The coverage cited here does not provide a final post-mortem result, court ruling, or completed investigative finding.
