An LSU student, Kendall Francis, says she was sexually assaulted by a football player in October 2025. LSU later found the athlete responsible for sexual assault and forcible rape in a university Title IX proceeding, according to internal documents reported by WAFB. The finding was upheld on appeal, but the sanction was modified. A separate criminal investigation was ongoing, with no charges announced in WAFB’s latest report, published September 24, 2026.
What the student says happened
Francis told WAFB that the alleged incident took place in October 2025 after she visited a football player at an LSU dorm. She said LSU Police took her to a hospital. WAFB quoted Francis saying, “I just went over there… and I was sexually assaulted.” That is her account of the alleged conduct, not a criminal-court finding. WAFB’s September 24 report said the athlete’s name had not been publicly released.
Francis filed a formal Title IX complaint with LSU in January 2026. The university investigation included conflicting accounts, including disagreement about whether she consented, WAFB reported.
What LSU’s Title IX process found
Internal university documents obtained by WAFB show that LSU found the student-athlete responsible for sexual assault and forcible rape. The athlete appealed, and the Title IX office upheld the finding. The appeal modified the sanction to “disciplinary probation without restrictions,” according to WAFB’s September 23 report.

This was an administrative finding under LSU’s campus process. It is not a criminal conviction, and it does not by itself establish the outcome of a criminal case.
Status of the criminal investigation
The East Baton Rouge Parish District Attorney’s Office opened a criminal investigation after a formal criminal complaint was filed. As of WAFB’s September 24, 2026 report, that investigation remained ongoing and no criminal charges had been announced. That is the latest status established by the cited reporting; it does not establish whether there have been developments since publication.

LSU said the athlete was the person who initially reported the incident. District Attorney Hillar Moore told WAFB that the matter had previously been addressed through a campus-level investigation and review, and that LSU Police and Baton Rouge Police had information about it. These are descriptions attributed to LSU and the district attorney, respectively; the reports do not resolve any apparent differences between them.

The Title IX proceeding was LSU’s internal administrative process, which resulted in a responsibility finding and an appeal. The criminal investigation is separate and is being handled by law enforcement and the district attorney’s office. The campus finding does not automatically decide whether criminal charges will be filed or what the result of any criminal case would be.

LSU President Wade Rousse said the university takes allegations of misconduct seriously, that it had followed its policies and Title IX procedures, and that it would cooperate with law-enforcement partners after a criminal complaint was filed. Francis told WAFB she had believed LSU would pursue criminal charges after its finding and said she had misunderstood how the Title IX process worked.
