If you want Pokémon-style card art for a scrapbook or display, don’t buy a listing that presents an unofficial copy as a Pokémon card. Counterfeit cards can be difficult to spot, and marketplaces may prohibit them. Instead, look for clearly identified original artwork or use genuine cards you already own; treat custom and fan-made cards as unverified unless the creator and listing establish what they are and that they are permitted.
Why we’re not recommending fake Pokémon cards
There isn’t a trustworthy, verified list of sellers for fake Pokémon cards here, so ranking shops would imply a level of safety or authorization that the available evidence does not establish. The distinction that matters is whether an item is an original artwork or an unauthorized reproduction of Pokémon card art or merchandise—and whether it is being presented as a genuine or playable card.

A Reddit user described wanting card art for a scrapbook while saving authentic cards for collectors. That is one person’s example, not evidence that a particular seller or product is safe. For the same art-focused goal, seek work clearly identified as the artist’s own original creation rather than a reproduction of an existing Pokémon card.

Check the card in bright light
Pokémon Support says counterfeit cards may be see-through when held up to bright light. This can be a warning sign, not a definitive authentication test: a card that passes it is not thereby proven genuine. Compare the item with official product imagery as well, and ask a local trading-card shop to evaluate a suspect card. Pokémon Support notes that counterfeit booster packs can be hard to distinguish.

Be wary of implausibly low pack prices
Pokémon Support warns that a pack priced dramatically below its suggested retail price is a near-certain warning that it is counterfeit merchandise. Treat a steep discount as a reason to avoid the listing, not as proof by itself. The company also says reported counterfeit sales are most often associated with flea markets, but gives no rate; that observation is not a quantified estimate of risk across sellers or marketplaces.
What marketplace policies mean for buyers
eBay
eBay’s policy says counterfeit or fake items are not allowed and explicitly includes unauthorized reprints of trading cards among prohibited copies. Do not use eBay as a source for fake or proxy Pokémon cards. A marketplace’s general rules do not make an individual listing authorized.

Etsy and custom or fan-made cards
Etsy requires listings to meet its seller-made, seller-designed, handpicked, or sourced criteria and comply with its policies. Etsy also says it cannot determine whether a listing infringes someone else’s intellectual property. Those general rules do not verify that a particular Pokémon-themed fan card is authorized. Read the listing carefully, but do not treat the word “custom,” “fan-made,” or “proxy” as proof of permission or authenticity.

In a September 19, 2023 notice, the official Pokémon Card Game site in Japan said goods using Pokémon card-game works or trademarks without authorization were being traded under labels including “replica” and “metal card.” The notice described efforts with sales platforms to stop sales and consideration of legal action. This states the rights holder’s position in that context; it is not a universal legal ruling for every country or listing.

Safer ways to use card art
- For a scrapbook or display: Look for original work by an artist who clearly identifies it as their own creation, rather than a copy of an existing Pokémon card. Confirm what the item is before buying.
- For collecting or playing: Choose genuine Pokémon TCG products from a source you can verify. A genuine card is not a fake-card substitute, but it avoids passing an unofficial copy off as an authentic card.
- For custom or fan-made designs: Regard them as unverified unless the listing clearly identifies the creator, the item, and its status. A seller’s description or marketplace presence alone does not establish authorization.
There are no verified product recommendations here for fake cards, proxy cards, or custom Pokémon cards. Generic sleeves, binders, and printing supplies do not answer the request for card artwork and do not resolve whether a reproduction is authorized.
