Heavy long-weekend traffic was reported in Manali, on the Kalka–Shimla approach and around Uttarakhand hill destinations, including Mussoorie and Kainchi Dham. Uttarakhand’s reported traffic arrangements were specifically for October 2–4, 2026; they are not confirmation of current access or live road conditions.
What was reported
Reports published October 2–3 described congestion at several destinations and on routes leading to the hills. They cover separate locations and observations, not one centrally measured, region-wide traffic event. The reports do not establish synchronized live conditions after their publication.

Reported Kainchi Dham parking and access arrangements
Daily Jagran, citing Uttarakhand Police, reported the following arrangements through the night of October 4, 2026. These are historical, date-bounded instructions; check with local authorities before relying on them for a trip.
| Approach described | Reported arrangement |
|---|---|
| Via Bhimtal | Visitors were directed to park at Bhimtal Vikas Bhawan and continue to Kainchi Dham by local shuttle or public transport. |
| Via Gethia–Nainital | Bhowali Sanatorium was identified as a parking point, with shuttle transport to the destination. |
| Local vehicle access | The report said private cabs, taxis and two-wheeler taxis were restricted in the Kainchi Dham area. It also said some four-wheelers could be diverted via Ramgarh and Khutani roads. |
The report does not establish that these restrictions or shuttle arrangements remain in force beyond the stated weekend. Do not treat the named parking areas or diversion roads as current directions without confirmation.

What the Mussoorie plan did—and did not—confirm
NDTV India’s October 2 account described a police plan covering October 2–4, 2026, and reported deployments at duty and diversion points. It relayed an appeal to follow traffic rules, use designated parking and cooperate with diversions. The report is not a live route feed, and its plan should not be assumed to remain active after those dates.

The October reports do not confirm present-day traffic, road closures, access restrictions or shuttle service. Before travelling, check the relevant local police or district authority’s latest notices for your exact route and date. In particular, verify whether any parking or vehicle restrictions apply, and whether shuttles are operating. The available report on Manali describes congestion but does not provide an official live traffic advisory.
