The right MX Master 4 alternative depends less on a feature checklist than on how your hand moves. Choose the Logitech MX Master 3S if you want the familiar horizontal productivity design; the Razer Pro Click V2 if you want a conventional ergonomic mouse with configurable controls and several connection modes; the Logitech Lift or Razer Pro Click V2 Vertical Edition if a vertical grip feels more natural; or the Logitech MX Ergo S if you are willing to learn trackball control. None is a universal comfort winner, and manufacturer specifications cannot predict how a particular hand will feel after a full workday.

What the MX Master 4 baseline actually is

Before comparing alternatives, establish what you would be replacing. Logitech’s current MX Master 4 specification page describes a wireless mouse with Bluetooth Low Energy, a Darkfield sensor, a stated sensitivity range of 200 to 8,000 DPI, and a 650 mAh battery. Logitech rates the rechargeable battery for up to 70 days; that is a manufacturer rating, not an independently measured result. See the MX Master 4 specifications.

Logitech announced the MX Master 4 at $119.99 in the United States and €129.99 in Europe on September 30, 2025. Those figures are launch prices, not current street prices. Retail pricing, stock, included receivers and regional versions can change, so check your country’s listings immediately before buying. The announcement is available from Logitech’s 2025 launch release.

The alternatives below cover different control philosophies rather than minor cosmetic variations. A conventional ergonomic mouse still moves across your desk. A vertical mouse changes the angle of your forearm and wrist. A trackball keeps the device largely stationary while your thumb or fingers move the pointer. Those are fundamentally different choices, so treat the list as a way to narrow your investigation, not as a laboratory ranking.

Logitech MX Master 3S Conventional horizontal ergonomic productivity mouse in the MX family Complete side-by-side control and scroll specifications are not stated in the cited catalog Not stated in the cited catalog Someone who wants the familiar MX Master approach Logitech’s catalog lists the product but does not rank it or establish a current price; verify the live regional listing at the official mouse catalog.
Razer Pro Click V2 Conventional ergonomic shape with an extended thumb rest Dual-mode scroll wheel and programmable controls are listed by Razer Bluetooth, 2.4 GHz wireless, USB-C wired use; up to 3.5 months of battery life under Razer’s standard test conditions A desk worker who wants a traditional mouse with configurable controls and flexible connections These are manufacturer specifications; no hands-on comfort comparison was established. See the product page and support specifications.
Logitech Lift Vertical mouse shape Detailed control and scroll specifications are not stated in the cited catalog Not stated in the cited catalog Someone who prefers a vertical grip and wants a Logitech option The catalog confirms the model category, not a medical benefit or universal comfort advantage.
Razer Pro Click V2 Vertical Edition Separate vertical design in the Pro Click line Detailed control and scroll specifications for the Vertical Edition are not established here Confirm the exact operating-system, regional and retailer configuration before purchase Someone considering a vertical shape with Razer’s product ecosystem Razer presents it as a distinct model, not as the same shell turned on its side; consult the Pro Click line-up.
Logitech MX Ergo S Advanced wireless trackball Trackball operation is a different pointer-control method from moving a mouse Detailed connection and battery figures are not stated in the cited catalog Someone who wants to reduce desk movement or try thumb-controlled pointing It is not a like-for-like mouse replacement. Logitech lists it in the same catalog without claiming a comfort ranking.

1. Logitech MX Master 3S: the closest family alternative

The MX Master 3S is the logical first candidate when your main reason for considering another model is availability, price or a preference for the MX family rather than dissatisfaction with its basic shape. Logitech’s catalog lists the 3S alongside the current mouse range, but the cited material does not provide a complete, current side-by-side specification against the MX Master 4. That means you should not assume that every sensor, wheel, button or battery characteristic is identical or different without checking the product page for your region.

Why it belongs on the shortlist

  • It preserves the conventional horizontal productivity-mouse concept, so there is no need to change to a vertical or trackball technique.
  • It is the most natural model to investigate if your existing desk setup, hand placement and application-specific shortcuts already suit the MX Master family.
  • It may make sense when a retailer discounts the older model, but any price advantage must be checked locally because no current street price is established here.

What to verify before buying

  1. Open Logitech’s regional catalog page and confirm that the exact 3S version is still sold in your market.
  2. Compare the listed buttons, wheel behavior, supported devices, receiver inclusion and charging connector with the MX Master 4 page rather than relying on the family name.
  3. Check whether the software features you use are available for the 3S on your operating system.
  4. Confirm return terms. A family resemblance does not guarantee that the shell, thumb position or wheel feel will suit you.

2. Razer Pro Click V2: the conventional ergonomic competitor

Razer positions the Pro Click V2 as an ergonomic wireless mouse with an extended thumb rest. Its documentation lists a dual-mode scroll wheel, programmable controls, Bluetooth, 2.4 GHz wireless and USB-C wired operation. Razer also states up to 3.5 months of battery life under standard test conditions. The battery figure is therefore a manufacturer claim tied to its testing assumptions, not a promise of a fixed interval for every user.

Who should investigate it

This is the strongest alternative for someone who wants to keep a normal desk-mouse motion but values configurable buttons and connection flexibility. Bluetooth can be useful when you want to avoid a receiver, 2.4 GHz wireless can suit a desktop that supports a dedicated dongle, and wired USB-C operation gives you a fallback while charging or during troubleshooting. The extended thumb rest is a stated design feature, but only your hand can determine whether it supports or obstructs your grip.

Scroll and software considerations

Razer’s dual-mode wheel is relevant if you switch between deliberate, tactile movement and faster document or web navigation. Before committing, test both modes with the documents and timelines you use most. Programmable controls are valuable only when the companion software exposes the assignments you need and is permitted on your work computer. Check whether application-specific profiles, macros or remapping are acceptable under your organization’s IT policy; the existence of a programmable button does not guarantee that every function is available on every operating system.

  • What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.

Connection and battery checklist

  • Confirm that your computer supports the intended Bluetooth version or has an available USB port for the 2.4 GHz receiver.
  • Keep the USB-C cable accessible for wired use and charging.
  • Treat the 3.5-month statement as “up to” and under Razer’s standard conditions; high polling, lighting or frequent use can change real-world intervals.
  • Read the support page for pairing, firmware and receiver-recovery instructions for the exact model number.

3. Logitech Lift: choose a vertical shape

Logitech lists Lift in its official mouse catalog as a vertical mouse. That single design decision is more important than small specification differences: your fingers approach the buttons from the side, and the device is held in a handshake-like orientation rather than with the palm facing down. If that posture feels more natural, Lift deserves a trial; if you strongly prefer a low, horizontal shell, it may feel awkward even when the feature list looks attractive.

Set expectations correctly

A vertical shape is a posture preference, not a medical treatment. The available product information does not establish that Lift prevents repetitive-strain injury, relieves pain or is clinically superior. If you already have persistent numbness, weakness or pain, seek appropriate medical advice instead of treating a mouse purchase as therapy.

How to test the fit

  1. Place your forearm on the desk with your shoulder relaxed and avoid twisting to reach the buttons.
  2. Check whether your thumb and fingers can rest on the dedicated surfaces without squeezing the shell.
  3. Use the pointer at your normal sensitivity for ordinary documents, browser tabs and any precision work you perform.
  4. Notice whether the vertical angle creates strain elsewhere, such as at the elbow or shoulder. A different posture can move discomfort rather than eliminate it.

Because the cited catalog does not establish complete Lift specifications, verify current buttons, connection methods, battery information, supported operating systems and included accessories on the regional product page before ordering.

4. Razer Pro Click V2 Vertical Edition: a separate vertical design

Razer presents the Pro Click V2 Vertical Edition as a distinct product in the Pro Click line. Do not treat it as the ordinary Pro Click V2 with a software setting or a minor shell revision. Its appeal is the vertical grip itself, while the conventional V2 is aimed at users who want a standard horizontal mouse with an ergonomic thumb rest.

  • What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.

When it makes sense

Investigate this model if you want a vertical shape but prefer to remain within Razer’s productivity range, or if the conventional Pro Click V2’s hand angle is not comfortable. Compare the physical size, button reach and thumb placement in person when possible. The available information does not establish a universal comfort advantage, and it does not provide all Vertical Edition operating-system, retailer or regional details.

Purchase checks

  • Confirm the exact Vertical Edition model number and availability in your country.
  • Check which connection modes and accessories are included for that regional package.
  • Verify software support for your operating system before depending on remapping or profiles.
  • Read the seller’s return policy, because a vertical grip can require a longer adjustment period than a conventional replacement.

5. Logitech MX Ergo S: a trackball instead of desk movement

Logitech’s catalog calls the MX Ergo S an advanced wireless trackball. That makes it the most radical alternative in this list. You do not sweep the whole device across a pad; you roll the ball to move the pointer while the base stays largely in place. This can be attractive on a crowded desk, for a small workstation or for anyone who dislikes repeated arm movement, but it demands a different coordination pattern from a standard mouse.

What changes with a trackball

  • Pointer movement comes from the ball, so cursor control is driven by your thumb or fingers rather than by sliding the shell.
  • You can keep the base in one location, but precision depends on learning how much and how quickly to roll the ball.
  • Buttons and scrolling should be judged by their physical reach and your preferred finger assignments, not by assuming they mirror an MX Master.

The MX Ergo S should therefore be evaluated as a different control category, not as a cheaper or more ergonomic version of the MX Master 4. The cited catalog does not establish a complete battery, connection or button comparison, so confirm those details on the live regional listing.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

How to choose among the alternatives

Start with hand movement

  • Choose the MX Master 3S or Pro Click V2 when you want conventional mouse movement and a horizontal shell.
  • Choose Lift or the Pro Click V2 Vertical Edition when you specifically want to experiment with a vertical grip.
  • Choose MX Ergo S when keeping the device stationary and learning trackball control matters more than preserving familiar movement.

Then decide how you scroll

Scrolling can dominate a workday. If you need rapid movement through long documents, timelines or web pages, the Pro Click V2’s documented dual-mode wheel is a specific feature to test. For the MX Master 3S, Lift and MX Ergo S, use the current product pages to confirm the exact wheel or trackball behavior rather than importing assumptions from another Logitech model. The MX Master 4’s cited specification set establishes its sensor and battery figures, but does not provide enough detail here to make a complete wheel comparison.

  • Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft

Match controls to your software

List the shortcuts you actually use: navigation, window switching, copy and paste, browser tabs, editing commands or application-specific actions. A mouse with programmable controls can reduce keyboard travel only if its companion software supports those assignments and your computer permits the software to run. Test the assignments in the applications that matter instead of judging a mouse by the button count alone.

Choose connectivity deliberately

Bluetooth reduces desk clutter and can be useful with a laptop. A dedicated 2.4 GHz receiver can be preferable when you want a separate wireless link or your computer’s Bluetooth is unreliable. Wired USB-C operation is a practical fallback on the Pro Click V2. For every model, check how many devices it can remember, whether a receiver is included, and whether switching works with your operating system; those details are not established uniformly in the cited catalog.

Set a realistic power expectation

Compare battery statements only with their conditions attached. Logitech’s 70-day MX Master 4 figure is a rating, while Razer’s up-to-3.5-month Pro Click V2 figure is qualified by standard test conditions. Neither should be converted into a guaranteed calendar interval for your workload. A wired fallback, an accessible charging cable and a clear low-battery indicator can matter more than the largest headline number.

  1. Record your baseline. Note how you currently grip a mouse, which fingers operate the wheel and side buttons, and whether your desk leaves enough room for full arm movement.
  2. Check the neutral reach. With your forearm supported, see whether the primary buttons, wheel and thumb rest are reachable without pinching or lifting your shoulder.
  3. Pair every available connection. Test Bluetooth, the dedicated receiver and wired mode when the model offers them. Check wake-up behavior and whether switching interrupts your work.
  4. Configure only necessary controls. Assign one or two familiar shortcuts first, then verify them in your real applications. Add more mappings only after the basic layout feels reliable.
  5. Use your normal workload. Include long documents, browser navigation, spreadsheets, creative tools or code editors as appropriate. A mouse that feels impressive in a menu may fail during repetitive navigation.
  6. Test precision and speed. Adjust pointer sensitivity gradually. For the MX Master 4, Logitech states a 200–8,000 DPI range; do not assume another model has the same range unless its current specification page says so.
  7. Check charging and recovery. Confirm that the cable is accessible, the mouse remains usable while charging when supported, and you know how to reconnect after a receiver or Bluetooth failure.
  8. Use the return window intelligently. Keep packaging and accessories until you have tested the actual shape, wheel and controls through several ordinary work sessions.

Common mistakes when replacing an MX Master

Assuming “ergonomic” means medically safer

Manufacturers use ergonomic to describe a design intent or shape. The cited product information does not provide clinical evidence that any listed mouse prevents injury or treats pain. Comfort is personal and can be affected by desk height, keyboard position, grip force and total computer time.

Comparing battery numbers without attribution

“70 days” and “3.5 months” are not interchangeable laboratory measurements. The first is Logitech’s rating for the MX Master 4; the second is Razer’s up-to figure under standard test conditions for the Pro Click V2. Keep the attribution and qualification attached whenever you compare them.

Buying a vertical mouse for feature parity

Vertical models change how your hand approaches the buttons. They may suit your posture, but they are not direct shape-for-shape replacements for the MX Master 4 or Pro Click V2. Prioritize reach, stability and return terms over a longer specification list.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Treating a trackball as a drop-in replacement

The MX Ergo S changes the source of pointer movement. Expect an adaptation period and evaluate thumb or finger control separately from ordinary mouse travel.

Using launch pricing as a current budget

The MX Master 4’s $119.99 and €129.99 figures describe its September 2025 launch. They do not establish today’s price in any country. Check local currency, tax, shipping, stock and warranty terms immediately before purchase.

Which one should you investigate first?

Start with the MX Master 3S if you want the least disruptive transition and are comfortable verifying the current family specifications yourself. Start with the Razer Pro Click V2 if configurable controls, a documented dual-mode wheel and Bluetooth, 2.4 GHz and wired options are central to your setup. Start with Logitech Lift or the Razer Pro Click V2 Vertical Edition only when the vertical grip is the feature you most want to test. Start with MX Ergo S when stationary operation and trackball control are worth learning.

That conditional shortlist is more reliable than declaring a single “best” ergonomic mouse. The official pages establish product categories and manufacturer-stated features; they do not establish a universal comfort winner. Your grip, scrolling habits, software permissions, connection requirements, local price and return policy should make the final decision.
