The absence of a download does not prevent basic use. It does mean that Logitech no longer presents a live, officially listed Windows installer for the legacy customization path on that page. If your mouse is lost, electrically defective or unavailable to Windows, software cannot substitute for the hardware; a replacement mouse is the direct remedy.
What software was used to program a G600
Logitech Gaming Software was the documented path
Logitech’s quick-start guide directs G600 owners to download and install Logitech Gaming Software for per-game customization. In LGS you could assign commands to the 12 thumb keys, configure G-Shift behavior, create profiles, select DPI stages and set macros. Logitech also documented an On-Board Memory mode in LGS 8.x. When that mode is enabled, the selected customizations are written to the mouse rather than relying entirely on software running in Windows.
What onboard memory changes
The G600 has one hardware memory profile with three modes, according to Logitech’s technical specification. Onboard storage is useful when moving the mouse between computers or when you do not want a background profile process on every system. It does not create a new Windows driver and it does not make an unavailable LGS installer current or officially supported. If a profile was never written to the mouse, changing computers will not recreate it automatically.

These specifications explain why a generic HID driver is enough for pointing but not for the complete feature set. Windows can pass ordinary mouse events, while LGS was responsible for translating the extra controls into game commands and profile changes.
Install and diagnose the G600 manually
1. Connect it directly
- Unplug the G600.
- Connect it directly to a USB port on the computer, rather than through a USB hub. Logitech’s quick-start guidance specifically recommends avoiding a hub when the mouse does not work.
- Wait several seconds for Windows to detect the device, then test movement and the left and right buttons.
Try another direct USB port if there is no response. A direct connection removes the hub and its power or enumeration circuitry from the troubleshooting path.

2. Check whether Windows sees a basic mouse
- Right-click the Start button and open Device Manager.
- Expand Mice and other pointing devices and look for a HID-compliant mouse or a Logitech mouse entry.
- If the entry appears without a warning icon, test the pointer, buttons and wheel again.
The exact device name can vary because Windows is using the HID class driver. A generic name does not by itself mean the G600 is unsupported.

3. Separate pointer failure from feature failure
- Pointer and ordinary buttons work: The basic HID path is functioning. If the 12 side buttons, G-Shift or profiles do not respond as configured, focus on the configuration-software issue.
- Nothing works: Recheck the USB port and cable, then inspect Device Manager for an error icon or an unrecognized device.
- Intermittent detection: Test a second direct USB port and, if possible, another computer. This helps distinguish a Windows installation problem from a physical cable or mouse fault.
4. Refresh the Windows device entry
- In Device Manager, right-click the G600-related HID or mouse entry and choose Uninstall device.
- Disconnect the mouse, restart Windows, and reconnect it directly after the desktop loads.
- Allow Windows to rediscover the HID device, then test movement and buttons before attempting any legacy software.
Use this step only when Windows is failing to enumerate the mouse or the device entry is clearly corrupted. It does not install LGS or restore lost profiles.
5. Check Logitech’s official page before using an archived installer
Open Logitech’s G600 support page and confirm its current status first. It presently says there are no downloads. If you already possess an older LGS installer, verify its provenance and scan it before execution. Do not assume that a file found on an unofficial mirror is authentic, unchanged or compatible with your Windows edition.
6. If LGS is already installed, use onboard mode deliberately
- Open Logitech Gaming Software 8.x.
- Select the G600 and enable On-Board Memory mode.
- Write the desired profile and button assignments to the mouse.
- Test the 12 thumb buttons and G-Shift in the intended application.
Onboard mode stores the configuration in the mouse, but it cannot recover a profile that was never saved and cannot add Windows 11 support that Logitech has not documented.

What to do when no official installer is available
- Keep using the G600 as a standard HID mouse if that meets your needs.
- If you already have a verified LGS installer, retain a clean copy and record which Windows version it worked with; do not represent it as a current Logitech download.
