Those labels are not perfectly interchangeable; the practical point is that the board retains a number pad in a more compact footprint than a full-size keyboard. Hot-swappable mechanical switches
Logitech says the mechanical switches are hot-swappable, which lets owners replace compatible switches rather than treating the installed switches as permanent. The precise switch type depends on the regional listing. Logitech Japan says its listed linear-switch model does not support analog switches; hot-swap capability should not be mistaken for support for magnetic or analog input. Confirm the switch type and compatibility details for your exact SKU before buying replacement switches.

For Logitech Japan’s listed linear-switch model, the company specifies 3.5 mm key travel, a 1.9 mm actuation point and 40 g operating force. Keycap changes
Logitech describes customizable PBT keycaps with standard cross-hatch stems and says customization kits are sold separately. The available product information does not certify particular third-party keycap sets, so verify fit and layout compatibility rather than assuming any set will work.

What do the dial, display and lighting add?
The onboard controls include a media knob, Game Mode button and dot-matrix LED display. Logitech says the dial can control volume, media, brightness and report rate. The quick-start guide identifies the USB-C port and points users to G HUB for setup. Logitech’s software supports LIGHTSYNC lighting customization, macros and KEYCONTROL. Logitech advertises per-key RGB and 30 light-bar zones, along with a gasket-mounted structure and sound-dampening layers. Its description of the sound as “thocky” is manufacturer language. TechRadar’s reviewer also called the stock tactile switches thocky, while noting they were not the quietest; that is a subjective impression, not a measured noise result.

What did the independent review find?
TechRadar’s hands-on review praised the build and typing feel, describing the keyboard as solid yet light and reporting use for gaming, typing and browsing. The same reviewer found the small display of limited use, noted the missing navigation keys and felt the feet did not tilt enough. Those are one reviewer’s observations, so individual comfort and usefulness may differ. Does the 8 kHz report rate matter?
Logitech specifies a “Near-instantaneous 8 kHz report rate.” This is a manufacturer specification, not independent evidence that every player will notice a difference. It is a feature to weigh alongside layout, switch feel and controls—not a guarantee of a perceptible performance improvement.

- Switch variant: Check whether the local product is tactile or linear and confirm compatibility before purchasing replacement switches. Logitech Japan’s stated measurements apply to its listed linear model.
- Connection and requirements: Logitech Japan lists Windows 10 or later and macOS 12 or later, a USB-A port and an included USB-A-to-USB-C cable. These are Japan-market details; check the current requirements and included cable for your region.
- Dimensions and weight: Logitech Japan lists 384 × 140 × 40 mm and 880 g for its announced variant. Verify local specifications if desk space or portability matters.
- Warranty, returns and price: Confirm the terms and current price with the seller in your country; availability and conditions can vary by market.

Who should consider it?
Consider the G316 X 98 if you want a wired mechanical gaming keyboard that retains a number pad, offers switch and keycap customization, and puts media and lighting controls on the board. Look elsewhere if you need a full set of dedicated navigation keys, prefer wireless operation, require analog switch support, or expect a small display to be a major benefit. Whether its 8 kHz specification or lighting controls matter to you depends on your setup and preferences; the available sources do not establish a measurable benefit for every user.
