Logan Paul says he found a Shiny Onix in Pokémon Gold after a hunt lasting 63 hours and 7,068 encounters, according to a Dexerto report published October 5, 2026. That is fewer encounters than the game’s reported base shiny odds of 1 in 8,192—but those odds are a chance per encounter, not a guaranteed waiting time.
What happened in Logan Paul’s Shiny Onix hunt?
Paul began the hunt on September 19, 2026, Dexerto reported. His first stream ran for 34 hours and reached 3,705 encounters before he paused for an appearance on WWE Monday Night Raw. By October 5, he announced that he had found the shiny after 63 total hours and 7,068 encounters.

Those hours and encounter totals are figures reported by Dexerto, not independently audited measurements. The report also says the hunting area contained other wild Pokémon, so an encounter did not necessarily produce an Onix.

How do the reported odds compare?
Dexerto gives the base chance for a wild Pokémon to be shiny in Pokémon Gold as 1 in 8,192 per encounter. Paul’s reported total of 7,068 encounters is below that figure. This is not inherently contradictory: a 1-in-8,192 chance does not mean a shiny is guaranteed by encounter 8,192. It can appear earlier or later, and the reported area’s other Pokémon mean not every encounter was necessarily an Onix.

Did Logan Paul say he used hacks?
Paul denied using hacks. In a post on X quoted by Dexerto, he said he used an original Pokémon Gold cartridge in a GB Operator and streamed the hunt live. That remains his claim: Dexerto’s report does not independently authenticate the cartridge, device, footage, or encounter count, so the reported total alone does not establish whether the hunt was legitimate.

At the time of Dexerto’s October 5 report, Paul planned to evolve the Onix into a Shiny Steelix during a YouTube livestream scheduled for October 29, 2026. The report also said he planned to open two Pokémon Legendary Collection boxes during that later stream, describing their combined value as $400,000; that figure is Paul’s reported valuation, not an independently verified market price.
